Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0430hrs 1-20 infantry TOC Radar Targets Radar sighted 15 to 20 personnel moving southwest at BS75454. With Charlie Company informed. At 2145hrs PPS-5 sighted 4 to 5 stationary personnel at BS736443 with Bravo Company informed and at 2230hrs TMF sighted 6 personnel at BS798324 and engaged with 4 HE of Artillery 155mm. At 0855hrs 1-20 Infantry requested mine dogs for Delta Company for 0850hrs. At 0910hrs Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry the Day Logger and working area is BS774517. At 1935hrs 1-20 Infantry a 5 ton vehicle from the 26 Engineer hit an unknown size booby trap on the LZ Liz access road wounding 3 US with multiple frag wounds. Primo 3 Dust Off the men to LZ Bronco. The 5 ton was trying to turn around and ran off the shoulder of the road and hit a mine. At 1035hrs M26 we have 2 Platoons patrolling at grid BS780546. At 1350hrs Charlie Company 26 Engineer tripped a booby trap with 1 of their tracks (D7), there was no damage or casualties. The result was a hole 1’ by 6’ wide. At 1620hrs 1-20 Infantry Shark 6 with the Dolphins picked up 4 detainees, the ones Charlie Company had been chasing, ranging in age from 18 to 25 with no ID at grid BS776535. They will be turned in to Military Intelligence. At 1650hrs 26 Engineer a total of 18 hours were logged today with a 400 X 400 meters area cleared, 6 bunkers destroyed, 1 booby trap hit, no ordnance expended, 600 gallons of fuel used and no explosives used. We have 1 D7 deadline with blown head gasket and 1 D7 with radiator trouble deadline with D7 dossiers operation 39 acres were cleared at grid BS772529. At 1730hrs Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry 3 booby traps were destroyed in place they were hand frag with pressure device at grid BS717525. 26 Engineer reports PFC David N. (can’t read) superficial Frag wounds upper body treated B 23 Medical, SP5 Donald G FW both arms, legs and abdomen treated at B 23 Medical and SP4 Raymond L. (can’t read) treated at B 23 medical.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

Alpha Company
May 21, 1970

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0645hrs Alpha Company all snakes have closed on LZ Liz and the access road security is out. At 1900hrs Alpha Company the access road elements are in location and the SRRP is moving out and at 2001hrs Alpha Company reports the access road security is out and the 37 SRRP is at BS783433.

Bravo Company
May 21, 1970

At 0024hrs Bravo Company the PF snake at Van Truong made contact and got one VC KIA and are now putting in Artillery and Illumination with one pistol belt, 2 M26 grenades, , many documents and propaganda sheets and 2 M-16 magazines. The PF went into a tunnel and killed one VC, and a reaction force was called and married up with the PF and have now closed on the Night Defense Position with the body. At 0139 Bravo Company the 181 element at BS796395 took small arms fire from Van Truong, 30 to 40 rounds for about 3 to 4 minutes. We are checking the area and called in the search light from Montezuma with negative finding. Bravo Company again working with ARVN Forces continued to use saturation patrolling and Day Ambush in their Area of Operation. At 1050hrs Bravo Company the 38 element checked the area where the PF got the KIA last night and found a foxhole with human brain and expended M-16 rounds at grid BS795445, also 1 KIA was intact and we have claimed this as a second KIA. At 1925hrs Bravo Company the 56 element found a booby trap which consisted of a Chi Com Grenade with 2 strings attached and hooked in a V, with 2 more grenades under the first at BS770451.

Charlie Company
May 21, 1970

At 0556hrs Charlie Company element closed on their units and report that one Mechanical Ambush detonated with one dog KIA. At 0745hrs Charlie Company with established their Day Logger with 34 at BS764569, 74 at BS753587, and the 54, 39, 94 is at BS725570. At 0830hrs Charlie Company most of the 10,000 pounds of rice was located in hootch in Thi Pho Nhi Hamlet 200 to 400 pounds was found buried and the rest scattered around in pig pens and etc, the rice was fresh at grid BS745574. At 0834hrs Charlie Company requested the 10,000 pounds of rice be hooked to BS762534 (Dragon airstrip). At 1010hrs Charlie Company found 4500 to 5000 pounds of more in bags and the rest in hootch at grid BS752570 and at 1115hrs the 77 element received 3 rounds of sniper fire from a distance of 500 meters at BS764586, we returned fire and checked area with negative finding. At 1147hrs Charlie Company reports a total of 6,000 pounds of rice were extracted and at 1200hrs reports there is an estimated 70,000 pounds of rice at BS752570, intend to ambush at this area. At 1450hrs Charlie Company 35 spotted 6 VC moving east at BS774579 with no weapons or packs and we hot over their heads and they went into a tree line. Shark 6 and 2 Dolphins are on station, ages 12-15, wearing black shirts and 2 wearing green shorts and one with blue shorts and one with maroon shorts. At 1630hrs Charlie Company 34 has one detainee, a male, with lots of fishing gear, he had no clothes and no ID, he seems to know a lot about the VC in the area at grid BS774579. At 1620hrs 1-20 Infantry Shark 6 and Dolphins picked up 4 of the VCS that Charlie Company was chasing and will take them to Military Intelligence. Charlie Company 77 unit closed on their location and multiple ambushes out in the Charlie Company Area of Operation. At 1855hrs Charlie Company Command Post received 2 rounds of sniper fire from BS747578 at 400 to 500 meters distance. The area was engaged with small arms fire with no damage or casualties. At 1900hrs Charlie Company we have 3 VC with weapons at BS758584 with 500 meters proximity to the nearest Ville and friendly. Pink team went to the location and detained 3 males and turned them in to Military Intelligence at grid BS758584. At 1930hrs Charlie Company we requested an Urgent Dust Off for 1 female with a gunshot wound to the hip with possible internal bleeding. She was caught in crossfire when the 34 element engaged 3 evading VC. The 3 successfully evaded, the Female had no ID at grid BS753587. At 2005hrs Charlie Company is in their Night Defense Position with multiple ambushes out in their Area of Operation At 2015hrs Charlie Company we had a mechanical ambush go off at the 59 element snake location it was some faulty parts.

Delta Company
May 21, 1970

Delta Company continued to use Day Logger and saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0710hrs Delta Company request a Routine Dust Off for one Vietnamese who was taken under fire by the National Police with the with the 34 element and was hit and pick up at BS465545 completed at 0823hrs. At 0757hrs Delta Company Day Logger positions Command Post is at BS764569 and 74 at BS753587 with 54, 39 and 94 at BS725570. At 0907hrs Delta Company 34 picked up one female last night in their snake location, she was about 35 and the National Police say she is a good suspect and as they were moving to the Day Logger they spotted 2 females at 765545 who evaded. They tried to evade and one was WIA and dusted off and the other is now in the 34 element Day Logger position at BS762543. At 1610hrs Delta Company the 75 element has 5 VC spotted in a wood line at B774554, with no weapons at grid 774554 and they quickly evade as they where spotted. At 1700hrs Delta Company an update report on Delta Company detainees reveals 2 females picked up in last night, Night Defense Position. Reports 1 female last night in a snake location (the 3 being strongly suspected of being VC) and the 1 Vietnamese picked up this morning while the element was moving from their snake location. At 1725hrs Delta Company requests a Dust Off for our interpreter who has a temperature of 102 and minor pains, completed at 1735hrs and at grid BS764552. At 2005hrs Delta Company is in their Night Defense Position with multiple ambushes out in their Area of Operation.

Echo Company
May 21, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Fires 4 and Observed Mission 1 for a total expended of 4 HE and 3 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz.
