Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0230hrs Nui Vong, engaged target at BS693576, 3 lights expended 6 HE 81mm Mortar rounds along with 4 HE ARVN tank rounds. At 0618hrs Warlord 20 is on station to check out area of Charlie Company contact, 0629hrs broke with negative findings. At 0708hrs Warlord 33 is on station for Air Calvary Box 61. At 0855hrs 11 Brigade LZ Dottie all US and ARVN units on LZ Dottie had a practice alert from 0130hrs thru 0200hrs installation coordinator, states alert was satisfactory. At 0903hrs 1-20 Infantry Primo 3 is on station at this time. At 0930hrs 11 Brigade Convoy with military escort departed LZ Bronco for Dottie and Chu Lai with 12 vehicles from HHC 11 Brigade arrived Chu Lai 1250hrs. At 1000hrs TO Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta Companies and Recon FROM 1-20 Infantry S-3 two problems area were mentioned: The practice of recovering the claymore without disconnecting the blasting cap and the wearing jewelry while working with Mechanical Ambushes. It is possible for items of jewelry to make contact and detonate the ambush. At 1105hrs Warlord 33 inserted animals into Box 61 location BS483228. At 1230hrs Warlord 33, 15 to 20 hootches vicinity BS506215, with hootches at BS479220, 30 to 40 hootches vicinity BS486220. Skeater took SKS fire from BS501226. Also 6 to 8 hootches destroyed vicinity BS484220, Animals found 1 NVA uniform, 1 Chi Com, 2 SKS rifles, believed to be Regimental size way station area, calling for Air Strike vicinity BS492210. At 1440hrs Warlord 33 extracted Blues from BS488228, Helix is on station for Air Strike. At 1530hrs RF 172 at 1050hrs vicinity BS738575, RF checking bunkers when 3 VC jumped up and threw grenades, VC evaded to east. The bunker contained 1 carbine with 1 30 round magazine, 1 M-16 with 3 20rounds magazines, 1 medical manual, 1 trip flare and 5 sets of clothes, Results were 2 RF WIA. At 1535hrs Nui Vong General Gorowitz mad a walking inspection of entire Fire Support Base, talked to troops, inquired about drug problems, inquired about hill Alert procedures. Pointed out they should conduct an alert between the hours 0100 to 0300hrs during low illumination period. This is planned, commented they needed a noise making alert system, shell casing and hammer being constructed, commented that police of area was very good. At 1655hrs RF 169 vicinity BS846315 made contact with unknown size enemy force at ambush site with results 1 RF WIA, 1 M-16 MIA and 1 VC KIA. At 2025hrs Nui Vong, IOS sighting vicinity BS670583, engaged 2 VC with packs and weapons, expended 3 US tank rounds, and 10 HE rounds 4.2 Mortar with negative results. At 2155hrs Warlord Blue going into Night Hawk box 60 at 2230hrs out of Box with negative findings and 2230hrs into Box 69. At 2253hrs requested clearance to Recon by Fire at grid BS752383 where he spotted black clothing in the area, he engaged with negative results and broke station at 2325hrs.Legend: 1st Platoon 17, 2nd Platoon 44, 3rd Platoon 56, 4th Platoon 23 and CO-64.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai. At 0220hrs 1-20 Infantry at 0101hrs our rear in Chu Lai received approximately 9 rounds of M-16 fire, 2 rounds entered Commo hooch. Negative casualties, Major Edwards the Executive Officer is investigating the incident. 1 man saw another man run by and drop and M-16. The M-16 is locked up at this time, still checking into the incident.
Alpha Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and Access Road Security.
Charlie Company
June 21, 1971
At 0618hrs Warlord 20 on station to check out area of Charlie Company contact, 0629hrs broke station with negative findings. At 0630hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS733425 requested 1 tactical Urgent Dust Off for Kit Carson Scout with twisted ankle, picked up at Command Post location, he is on the way to Bronco, Kit Carson Scout spotted 2 VC at BS733405, Bird #87 completed at 0644hrs. Charlie Company will use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0953hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon were following personnel when they split up near bunker vicinity BS727432. The bunker was 10’ X 10’ above ground, are blowing it with a 43 pound shape charge. At 1036hrs Charlie Company Mechanical Ambush vicinity BS710403 got 1 NVA KIA at junction in trail, Mechanical Ambush set out by 3rd Platoon. Also found a mirror, blasting caps and wire, smoke fuse firing device, KIA was 26-30, wearing OD Green clothing and Hoi Chi Minh sandals. At 1130hrs 3rd Platoon in Patrol Base vicinity BS739419, Command Post and 2nd Platoon in Patrol Base vicinity BS725436, 2nd Platoon on sweep of grid vicinity BS725435. At 1440hrs Command Post while in Patrol Base observed Vietnamese boy 10 vicinity BS728427 pick up 2 used smoke grenades and he start toward his Ville. When stopped and asked what he was going to do with them, he answered that he was going to throw them in the bushes brought him in and sent to Duc Pho MACV. At 1805hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS734423 found 1 booby trap hand frag believed to have been set today was on a trail had vine for trip wire was blown in place. At 2035hrs Charlie Company are in their Night Defense Position locations Command Post and 2nd Platoon at BS725436 and 3rd Platoon at BS735411.
Delta Company

Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0555hrs Recon Platoon is back on LZ Liz at this time. At 0821hrs Recon is moving off LZ Liz at this time to BS755441. At 0959hrs Recon is back on LZ Liz at this time. At 2030hrs Recon Platoon in their Night Defense Position at BS735411.
