Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0715hrs 1-20 Infantry AMC Ship is on station for Combat Assault. At 0842hrs 26 Engineers, Access Road is open. At 0845hrs Primo 6 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 0846hrs 1-20 Infantry AMC is breaking station with Combat Assault completed. At 1445hrs Q Company vicinity BS667582 radar at Nui Vong spotted 4 VC /NVA with weapons, wearing all black with white hats. Personnel were stationary and possible had a machinegun. Sharks were scrambled at 1453hrs and contacted Nui Vong at 1502hrs. The enemy evaded to the wood line and Shark couldn’t see anything because it was so thick. They fired up an area where they believed person was hiding with negative results and sharks broke station at 1523hrs. At 2145hrs TMF at 2123hrs String 311 B unknown number of personnel, with metal confirmed has stationary target with negative clearance as Nighthawk was called to check it out. At 2200hrs Blue Ghost 43 is on station for Box 67, broke station at 2315hrs, had negative findings. At 2200hrs MACV vicinity BS716605, RF 250 and element of PSDF, VC threw a satchel charge or grenade into a group of PSDF and PF 250 wounded were taken to LZ Snoopy in three different parties, first Dust Off received 1 RPG, negative casualties, 2nd Dust Off ship came in with gun ships, 1 PF WIA, 1 PF KIA and 5 PSDF WIA and 1 of the WIA PSDF was a hamlet chief of Kien Khuong. 2. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued to use Day Ambushes and multiple Patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0746hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon ambush closed at BS713434, 3rd Platoon ambush at BS737437 and 1st Platoon ambush closed at BS747405. At 1605hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon bought 1 155 round and 1 105 round from Vietnamese children, negative Lot #. Alpha Company paid 6 cans of C Rations for the rounds and destroyed all of them in place. At 1815hrs Alpha Company Command Post with 3rd and 4th Platoon is moving to Night Defense Position at BS718423. At 1835hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon is moving to ambush location vicinity BS706428.
Bravo Company

Charlie Company
January 21, 1971
At 0745hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon ambush has closed on BS713434 and 3rd Platoon ambush has closed on BS737437 with 1st Platoon ambush closing on BS747405. At 1017hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon while on patrol found 1 tunnel which was 2’ X 3’ and approximately 15’ long. It had a bend at the end of it and was possible longer, it showed no signs of recent use, and they will blow the tunnel tomorrow and will put mechanical at that location tonight. At 1100hrs Charlie Company at OP Pax 1st Platoon purchased 1 81mm mortar Ill round from 1 12 year old child for 1 C-Ration will be blown in place. At 1125hrs Charlie Company 3rd Patrol closed on BS692481. At 2000hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon ambush in location vicinity BS680571, 1st Platoon ambush in location vicinity BS694545.
Delta Company
January 21, 1971
Delta Company (-) continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0947hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 at BS693485. At 1004hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS754589 while in their preplanned day ambush, observed 2 male personnel fishing. Observed 2 made shift rucksacks beside the 2 men. The element maneuvered against the 2 males, capturing both of them. A search of the rucksacks revealed several pairs of clothing, 2 MG-26 hand grenades and assorted cloth. The 2 VC CIA, were brought back to OP Frag, where they interrogated by interpreter and RF’s. The 2 VC stated they were from C-19. They stated C-19 had a total of 50 armed with 1 60mm mortar, 4 M-79’s and individual weapons. In addition they stated each evening at 1600hrs 2-3 VC from C-19 move from Big Red Mt (BS7460) to vicinity BS755583. From this position they observe US/RF activity at OP Frag. They communicate with main body by means of a runner. Delta Company send LP/US patrol is being sent out at this time to check out another location BS756580 where other VC are suspected of being hidden, will evacuate the 2 PW to LZ Liz 1330hrs. At 1030hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS696484. At 1123hrs Delta Company in response to intelligence gained from the 2 VC POW’s, 1st Platoon while moving to the location engaged 5 VC/NVA wearing packs, 2 had weapons. They engaged with small arms fire at approximately 100 meters and are checking the area now. All were wearing black and enemy moved northeast into tree line checked area with negative results. At 1230hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon patrol closed on BS692481 and at 1435hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 at 689481. At 1700hrs Delta Company, OP Frag vicinity BS762582, 1st Platoon spotted 1 personnel vicinity BS758578, dressed in all black, he evaded into wood line and they engaged him at 250 meters. Kit Carson Scout followed him, element took automatic weapons fire, negative artillery clearance due to proximity of a village. The element returned fire and moved into the area, sweeping it with negative results. They found 2 females with good ID who the Kit Carson Scout said were okay. At 1745hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS758582 has 2 female detainees, age 14 and 15, wearing all black, one with blue top. Detained in the area where they received sniper fire. Kit Carson Scout thinks they were leading element into an ambush and that they are VC will back haul tomorrow. At 1915hrs Delta Company locations Command Post and 3 Platoon is location BS692482, 1st and 4th platoon OP Frag at BS753568, 1st platoon BS755571 and 2nd platoon at grid BS692485.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2
Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
