Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0750hrs Helix 32 FAC there are two sampans with families aboard and also 3 to personnel in the area of BS793456. At 0845hrs Helix 32 FAC we are putting in an Air Strike on grid BS745443, negative results reported by Alpha Company at 1100hrs. At 0921hrs Battalion SRRP location is at BS774380. At 1405hrs Battalion SRRP had compromise their present location (see Echo Company December 21, 1969). At 1440hrs Helix 33 FAC Air strike going into BS746444, at 1515hrs Helix 33, 1 bunker destroyed, 1 trail cut, 2 105mm rounds, blown, also found 3 dud rounds at BS746444. At 1515hrs Helix 33 1 bunker destroyed, 1 trail cut, 2 105mm Artillery rounds, blown also found 3 dud rounds at BS746444. At 1805hrs 1-20 Infantry Bunker Report Alpha Company, Artillery. Echo Company all in good shape, Rear Bunker 44 being repaired all have Plumb Bobs. At 1825hrs Alpha Company 12 element closed on LZ Liz.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 0545hrs Base Defense LZ Bronco reports Military Police at gate spotted 1 person in the wire, engaged with small arms fire and are was illumination. He was orphan from Mo Duc who was deaf, dumb and half insane ARVN’s and PF will extract to MACV in LZ Bronco he was not wounded.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz and used Patrolling and both Day and Night ambushes. At 0801hrs Alpha Company all snakes have closed on LZ Liz. At 1005hrs Alpha Company 82 element will be moving to BS745442 and check it out.
Bravo Company
December 21, 1969
At 0715hrs Bravo Company 15 element found 4 holes approximately 4’ X 4’ where the rice has recently been dry out, we found a few more newly uncovered holes, grid BS786446. At 0817hrs Bravo Company 82 element will be the blocking force at BS816401. At 0833hrs Bravo Company the 15 element picked up 3 Vietnamese detainees, females at grid BS787439, the detainees were turned over to the PF. At 0835hrs Bravo Company we heard some firing to our northeast grid BS783433 and are sending the 26 element out to check out the area. At 0905hrs Bravo the Gorilla Team is at checkpoint 1 at grid BS795428 and at 0917hrs Gorilla Team has added checkpoint 5 at BS819411. At 1120hrs Bravo Company at BS812409 found 1 250lbs dud bomb with results blew in place. At 1125hrs the Gorilla Team is at checkpoint 6 at BS813424 and report their patrol will be closing shortly. At 1210hrs Bravo Company Combat Assault of Bravo Company 15 element grids 1st PZ 1157hrs, and LZ BS801449, BS800441, BS809442 and last LZ at 1210hrs vicinity BS798443 and request extraction at 1700hrs at BS797443. At 1403hrs Bravo Company the 22 element talked 5 VC out of tunnel at BS805443, they were dressed in shorts (black) assorted shirts, no weapons, all military age, no ID. Also have 2 female VCS picked up in same area. At 1800hrs Bravo Company all elements except the 22 element has closed and 22 closed at 1853hrs at grid BS783443. At 2026hrs Bravo Company 172 PF N.B., the 14 element, 1 RF on the northern bridge BS771461 tried to kill some of his comrades, by firing several law’s into a hootch he thought they were in. The RF subdued him and will keep him under guard until he can be evacuated to Duc Pho, MACV in morning negative casualties. At 2040hrs the 14 element at northern bridge took AK sniper fire from BS773463 putting 4.2 Platoon is on location northwest and negative casualties.
Charlie Company

At 0500hrs Charlie Company the 85 has closed on BS812447 and the 82 element left the Night Defense Position to BS793448. At 0600hrs the 82 element is short of grid BS793448 by 50 to 60 meters because of a large rice paddy. They will wait until daybreak to proceed forward. At 0640hrs Charlie Company the 14 snake has closed on BS779381. At 1040hrs Charlie Company we will be moving to BS762437 and leave a stay behind ambush, the 12 element to blow the bunkers at BS779381. At 1105hrs Charlie Company 82 element is at BS779381. At 1350hrs Charlie Company along with the 12 element are at BS762457. At 1540hrs Charlie Company 82 element has closed on main element at BS762437. At 1930hrs Charlie Company snake locations 24 at BS764437, 23 at BS768415, 15 at BS766437, and 85 at BS770440.
Delta Company

Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0553hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Missions 19, Observed Missions 3 with total expend 66 HE rounds. Echo Company has the responsibility for coordination of Base Defense. At 1405hrs Battalion SRRP had compromise in location SRRP was spotted by 1 Vietnamese female. The Vietnamese picked up a sandbag with unknown type item in it and spotted the SRRP, SRRP request extraction, CPT Beaver asked SRRP to try to stay in and move to new location. At 1540hrs Battalion SRRP is located at BS770388 and spotted 6 NVA with packs and weapons 200 meters east of them, Requests gun ships and at 1515hrs gun ships on station also they are moving toward the north. At 1550hrs Battalion SRRP urgent Dust Off is requested for 6 US hit 105 booby trap SP5 Zdzislan Wisnioski, SP4 Charles Freese, SP4 Ronald Larson and SP4 James Sumnicht where evac to the 27th Surgical Hospital (11B20) with PFC Ernest D. Bugge and SP4 Richard Browning where evac to 91st Evac Hospital (11B20). Recon Platoon is now on LZ Liz to take Security Mission.
