Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0245hrs Radar on the North OP sighted 5 to 6 stationary personnel and engaged the target with 5 HE rounds of 105 Artillery. At 0950hrs 26 Engineer our resupply location is at BS707578. At 1000hrs Brigade APD BOX #95 in Upper Left BS6445 and LR BS7138 in the Date/Time/Grid 220800hrs to 221800hrs August 1970. At 1005hrs Helix 34 at BS702451 on a trail along a ridgeline, 4 new bunkers were sighted at BS664476. The "Pea Patch" newly dug red dirt in a flat area in the form of circles with bunker entrances in the circles, and at grid BS761487 and BS761492 we sighted some heavily used trails. At 1455hrs Alpha Company the 51 and the Engineer have linked at BS711536. At 1740hrs Charlie Company 26 Engineer with Alpha Company 81 is at BS698538. At 1922hrs Brigade have 1 company prepared to reinforce LZ Debbie ASAP until 220600hrs August 1970. At 2250hrs Brigade interrogation of a detainee revealed there are 15 guerillas in Duc Phung Village armed with 1 M-79, 1 submachine gun, 5 M-16, 6 AK 47 and the guerillas stay in Van Nan Tu Hamlet. Also stated that in Duc Hoa Village the guerrilla leader is Qua, 26 years old and armed with an M-16 and the assistant leader is Lanh, 21 years old, with an AK47 and the Village Chief is Tuyen, 50 years old and armed with an AK47. New Legend 1st Platoon 91-96, 2nd Platoon 41-46, 3rd Platoon 01-06, 4th Platoon 51-56 and CO is 09.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
August 21, 1970
At 0630hrs Alpha Company the 51 element is moving to the Engineer Site. At 0844hrs the 93 element detained one female approximately 45 years old wearing black bottoms and purple tops with negative ID, picked up at BS694573. She was evaded to Military Intelligence. At 0945hrs Alpha Company the 51 element has purchased two 60mm rounds for 250 piasters each at BS711536, also later purchased on Chi Com grenade and one M-14 anti personnel mine for 250 piasters and 100 piasters respectively. At 1155hrs Alpha Company bought 3 M-14 and 2 claymores and one 60mm round. Alpha Company is in our Night Defense Position vicinity BS690548 at 1925hrs. At 1922hrs Brigade to have one company prepared to reinforce LZ Debbie ASAP until 220600hrs Aug 70.
Bravo Company
August 21, 1970
At 0710hrs Bravo Company the 93 and 95 elements en rout to their patrol base and they heard two warning shots at grid BS738576. At 0839hrs Bravo Company 93 element were checking Id in a Ville when they spotted 2 males trying to evade from BS738576 and they were detained and both sent to Military Intelligence. At 1005hrs Bravo Company the 55 element spotted one VC who evaded into a tree line at BS724617. The 144 PF with the 55 identified him as a VC and we are trying to flush him with 81mm but with negative results. At 1245hrs the 42 element requested a routine Dust Off for 2 VC with wounds from Bravo Company contact one of the VC became KIA while being moved to Dust Off site at BS744630 completed at 1345hrs. At 1345hrs Bravo Company the 53 element has one male detainee 40 years old and no ID and was sent to Military Intelligence also one 74 at BS738628 was sent along. The 54 elements sweep out the area of CS drop had negative finding. At 1740hrs Bravo Company we requests an Urgent Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese female with gun shot to her left arm where 55 element was taking sniper fire, she was in the area of crossfire completed at 1751hrs grid BS713607.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company will continue their retraining and Stand Down at LZ Bronco.
Delta Company
August 21, 1970
Delta Company is at LZ Bronco for retraining and at 1015hrs will close on LZ Liz and taken over the Security Mission for LZ Liz and the Access Road.
Echo Company
August 21, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. No 4.2 Mortar Platoon ammo report today. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon will continue their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry on LZ Liz.
