Headquarters and Headquarter Company
April 21, 1968

Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Ross for Operation WHEELER-WALLOWA and are OPCON to the 198th Light Infantry Brigade. As the 196th Light Infantry Brigade moves north to support the Marines. At 0800hrs 1-20 Infantry reports 2 tubers 4.2 Platoon moving from LZ Ryder to LZ Ross at this time, movement completed at 0945hrs. At 0908hrs 1-20 Infantry Command and Control Helicopter received small arms fire at AT055403. At 0950hrs 1-20 Infantry called for a routine Dust Off for 1 Mouth problems and 1 with shrapnel wound in leg from mortar (from mortar attack last night) PZ LZ Ross completed at 1003hrs. At 1106hrs 1-20 Infantry called Dust Off for Vietnamese woman who came to LZ Ross, she had gunshot wounds of right arm, time Call 1106hrs and completed at 1110hrs.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0845hrs Colonel Beers, advise cougar 5 there is a new admin log frequency. It is POAO, Cougar 5 knows the code, requests he get on this push ASAP. Need to receive 4 US WHA (M) will send additional info when it is obtained. At 1000hrs LT Gore Bronco Defense observed 3 Vietnamese boys go into bunker 63 and brought out blanket, sleeping bag, machete, PRC 25 battery and some other equipment. When they went after them boys dropped most of the equipment and fled toward Duc Pho Bunker checked out with negative assessment.

 

Alpha Company
April 21, 1968

Alpha Company continued their Search and Destroy operations in their new Area of Operation. At 0908hrs 1-20 Infantry Command and Control Helicopter received small arms fire at AT055403 and Alpha Company is moving to check the area out.

 

Bravo Company
April 21, 1968

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Ryder and OP in their Area of Operation. PFC Raymond J. Walker was attached to the 67th Evac Hospital.

 

Charlie Company
April 21, 1968

Charlie Company continued to use their Search and Destroy operations in their Area of Operation. 1Lt Harold N. Jensen took over command of Charlie Company around this period of time.

 

Delta Company
April 21, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Ross and their Road Security for the 535 road from LZ Baldy and LZ Ross. SP4 Frank G. Graveys was attached to the 27th Evac Hospital. SP4 Aaron J. Boutte was attached to 27 Evac Hospital.

 

Echo Company
April 21, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Ross where Battalion Forward is located and coordinates with the Battalion Rear and S-4 section as they established the Rear Forward location. The 4.2 Mortar Platoon is moved to LZ Ross where the continued their direction fire support for Battalion Operations.
