Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0720hrs Sensors 14 and 22 were activated at 0300hrs Charlie Company Command Post was notified and the RTO tried to contact the 45 element on the radio but was unable to reach them. The proposed snake location was to close for us to have the 81 Mortars shoot the target. Notify the engineers to check BS766439 and BS769439 carefully. At 2400hrs late entry between 1810hrs-1830hrs Minh Long Special Forces Camp received 4 rounds of 82mm mortar round from grid BS519528. Rounds impacted on grid BS534516. There were 4 friendly WIA (1US, 2 Vietnamese, and 1 Vietnamese from 50 caliber fire all where evac. 4.2 fired counter mortar and Gun ships on station reported 2 secondary explosions. No Civilians structures damage and no civilian casualties, with no terrorist activity. At 1910hrs 1-20 Infantry we passed on to companies that they are not to use frag type grenades unless they have an emergency because a certain lot number is bad and the lot number is not known at this time. At 1930hrs Brigade Mission Rice harvest 23 September 1969 One company will help secure rice in grid block BS8042 along with one company of RF. The Command Officer of the company that has this Security Mission will be at Duc Pho MACV at 0900hrs 21 September 1969.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 0726hrs 11th Brigade LZ Bronco received 6 rounds of 122mm rockets resulting in 6 US WIA (6 from the (723 Maintenance Battalion) and 1 from 3-1 Infantry) rounds impacted in the following area. 1 723 RD M (Direct Hit on a hootch) with result is 1 US KIA from the 723 Maintenance. 1 round outside the wire in A sector, 1 in the C sector near bunker 27, 1 in the B sector, one on the side of Montezuma. Warlords observed the launch vicinity BS792321 engaged the area with unknown results. Warlords also called artillery and adjusted it from the air with unknown results. At 0730hrs MACV reports 6 civilian wound evac to LZ Bronco from the rocket attack. At 2400hrs Target Detection 2135hrs at BS80053338 D-3 stationary, unknown amount of people fired 6 HE rounds of 105 Artillery.
Alpha Company

At 0930hrs Alpha Company 23, 73, 13 and Command Post elements are leaving Night Defense Position with the 43 stay behind and blow bunkers, and will catch up with us. At 1120hrs Alpha Company we have destroyed all the bunkers our Night Defense Position. At 1230hrs Alpha Company request routine Dust Off, I have one US who fell and cut his mall finger almost off. The medic says this man should be dusted off for proper treatment the man’s last name is Woodson (probably SP4 Louis E. Woodson). At 1150hrs Alpha Company at BS690430 and at 1420hrs reports part of the 23 element is making Recon in Force of out area. At 1600hrs Alpha Company at BS695254 and then move into their Night Defense Position at BS696431.
Bravo Company

At 0505hrs Bravo Company 43 is closing on our location. At 0707hrs Bravo Company is now in their Day Logger 47-75 element Southern Bridge Security, 74 Northern Bridge Security. At 0750hrs Bravo Company is located at BS783433 their Day Logger and conducted saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation and by 2000hrs are moving into their Night Defense Position at BS784428. Bravo Company at 2045hrs Report their 23, 24, 25 snakes are all in their locations.
Charlie Company

At 0505hrs Charlie Company the 45 snake is closing at this time. At 0900hrs Charlie Company reports their 26 element is now on the Red Ball. Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and the Access Road. At 1750hrs Charlie Company push will change to 36.40 will be in affect as of 1800hrs August 1969. At 2020hrs Charlie Company the 76 element has reached it first checkpoint.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Snoopy.
Echo Company
September 20, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0620hrs 4.2 Platoon reports the following Observed Mission 1, Unobserved Mission 1 and Defense Target 2 for a total expended 44 HE, 1 WP and 179 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0800hrs Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and the 1-20 Infantry.
