Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. 1-20 Infantry use of vehicles along highway 1, all previous messages, etc, relating to the above subject matter are here by rescinded and the following policy is in effect 192400hrs October 20, 1970. Due to recent number of snipping incidents along highway 1, no less then 2 vehicles will travel on highway, (no single vehicles), personnel traveling on the road will be fully armed and wearing steel pots along with protective vests. This policy originates with Commanding General. At 1040hrs Brigade and MACV Mo Duc a large explosion on Duc Hai road, At BS709638 leaving crater of 9’ wide and 4’ deep, No friendly were in the area at the time, 1 Vietnamese female was WIA (minor) by rock from the explosion. Mo Duc Senior Advisor investigated and found no shrapnel or wire he believes it was an attempt to channel traffic to another road. Vietnamese civilians repaired the road. At 1030hrs Battalion Commander will survey Fire Support Base to locate any herbicide barrel marked with blue or white bands and only report herbicide barrels that contain herbicides, no later then 2000hrs on 20 October 1970. At 1209hrs Engineers found 1 105mm round at BS694598, it was an old disarmed round lying on the ground. At BS695597 they found a small anti personnel mine, yellow, pressure release type, buried in hard ground, approximately 3" in diameter, possibly French type, all items were destroyed in place. At 1600hrs 1-20 infantry Battalion Commander departed LZ Liz on AMC Bird for Charlie Company Combat Assault 1st LZ at 1600hrs and last LZ at 1724hrs. At 1730hrs 1-20 Infantry Command and Control Helicopter returned to LZ Liz, AMC bird released for Combat Assault of Charlie Company completed. At 2315hrs Blue Ghost 49 on station for Box 63, when he got to the box the weather was too bad to work, so he broke station at 2320hrs. Legend 1st Platoon 03-08, 2nd Platoon 53-58, 3rd Platoon 83-88, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 43.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1503hrs S-4 11A resupply ship is on station.
Alpha Company
October 20, 1970
At 0700hrs Alpha Company 43 at BS761551 took one M-79 round and 4-5 rounds of AK 47 fire from approximately 300 meters to their Northwest. Have an element moving out to check the area now and have negative damage or casualties. Found where the sniper fire from and found 5 shells and appears to have evaded north. At 1509hrs Alpha Company 43 Patrol Base took 2 incoming rounds from area BS743584, 300 meters to their north. They were M-79, 43 element returned fire Alpha Company 03 element moving out to check area at this time. At 1915hrs Alpha Company all elements in location Command Post BS758553, 53 at BS747553, 83 at BS764543, 85 at BS766543 and 55 at BS746555.
Bravo Company
October 20, 1970
At 1333hrs Bravo Company 03 element at the Patrol Base at BS743584 found a paper which talked about VC, M-2 Carbines, and AK 47 and NVA, will tag and back haul to LZ Liz. Their 03 interpreter could not understand and the writing Document was found in a hootch on the ground. At 1400hrs Bravo Company 03 element at BS732585 found 1600 pounds of unpolished rice in good condition this year crop, not bagged found in mud bins. At this time the 03 element has 27 bags on rice ready for extraction. Bravo Company 55 element closed on BS762569, has 1 male detainee, 60, has a ID Nguyen Mai, and his name is on a black list that they have, evac to Brigade Military Intelligence. Bravo Company 03 extracted 2,500 pounds of rice, and the 36 element detained 5 Vietnamese while they were evading, no ID, extracted to Military Intelligence.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company conducted Combat Assault 1st PZ 1600hrs and Last LZ at 1724hrs, location of landing zones, grid BS735630, BS728623, BS725610, and BS728623. At 1745hrs Charlie Company 43 element requests Priority Dust Off for 1 US who hit a Booby trap at BS728623. He received frag to his back and legs, the booby trap 4-5 pounds of C-4 with fragmentation’s of cut down tail fins, across a trail, and trip wire type. Harold Watts, Dust Off Completed at 1800hrs. At 1816hrs Charlie Company 03 element at BS728623 found 6 155mm rounds, 2 RPG rounds, 1 tunnel 6’ long, 2 bunkers 5’ X 7’, had 2 ammo boxes inside. They believe the ammo boxes to be booby trap, and will destroy all rounds and that they can tonight and will destroy the rest in the morning, also found fishing line, trip wire with a safety pin on the end. At 2040hrs Charlie Company reports locations Command Post – BS730626, 83 – BS735631, 53 – BS729605, 05 – BS730621, 85 – BS737630, 06 – BS729625, and 07 – BS729626. Charlie Company reports PFC Robert J. Morgan T & R C 23 Medical with multiple frag wounds right Arm and Back.
Delta Company

At 0645hrs Delta Company on the move to highway 1 at BS717596. At 1122hrs Delta Company has closed on LZ Liz took over Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Echo Company
October 20, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. PFC Jesse Wade was attached to the 95th Evac Hospital (11C10) sick. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
