Headquarters and Headquarter Company
November 20, 1970

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0820hrs Brigade Typhoon Patsy is currently east to southeast of Chu Lai moving west at 15 knots. Maximum winds at 85 knots. At 0700hrs 21 November it will be 60 nautical miles east northeast of Quin Nhon with Maximum winds at 65 knots. Landfall vicinity Quin Nhon 1200hrs tomorrow, increasing cloudiness tonight, at 2400hrs winds will be 10 to 20 knots and at 0700hrs 21 November they will be 30 to 35 knots. Rain should start after 2400hrs tonight. At 1130hrs S-5 VIP purchased the following from 7 Vietnamese children for 1,070 piasters, 12 M-79 rounds, 1 claymore, 2 blasting caps, 1 M-26 hand frag, 2 Chi Com grenades, 1 81mm HE round and 1 60mm HE round. At 1200hrs 76C at Nui Vong, purchased 2 RPG rounds and 1 81mm HE from 5 Vietnamese children, RPG round was buried, appeared to be about 2 weeks old, they paid 2 meals of C Rations. At 1300hrs Commanding General XXIV Corps directed 1-20 Infantry to concentrate Combat Operations in Eastern No Duc District, to eliminate enemy forces in close coordination with Mo Duc District. At 1518hrs 1-20 Infantry Relay Dust Off 1 urgent Vietnamese friendly at BS715607, gunshot wound to back also 4 other Dusted Off completed at 1540hrs. At 1545hrs 1-20 Infantry: S-4 Dolphin # 543 is breaking station. At 1720hrs MACV reported that 1 PSDF and 1 PF had been kidnapped at Kien Khuong, they requested 2 slicks and 2 guns for a Combat Assault into BS735618. Believe the 2 missing individuals were in that location, in contact at 1400hrs Requested guns, who will worked for them and broke station at 1605hrs. Warlords credited with 2 KIA and 1 weapon shot by mini gun and badly torn up. The Vietnamese S-3 identified the bodies as member of C-19 also 3 PF Dusted Off and 1 evac by truck. At 1810hrs Brigade no ships for tomorrow. At 1943hrs Recon 4 ARVN conducted a raid at BS696584, resulting in 2 VC KIA, 1 carbine, 4 Chi Com grenades and 2 packs CIA. At 1958hrs 1-20 Infantry Intelligence from PSDF with Charlie Company that at BS704443 there would be a gathering of VC. Fired TOT on that location at 1900hrs. Radar picked up 15 to 20 personnel moving after TOT, they then fired another TOT and radar picked up several small groups moving in different directions. Red legs will fire periodically through out the night until Recon Platoon can check it out. At 2006hrs received another sighting 3 to 5 personnel that where moving east from BS708442. Radar observed TOT and advises that there are still 4 to 5 personnel in the area of BS708442. Expended 110 4.2, 155mm and 105mm rounds and will fire 1 round every 15 minutes throughout the night. Legend: 1st Platoon 12-18, 2nd Platoon 62-68, 3rd Platoon 82-88, 4th Platoon 32-38, CO 44 Q Company 76C.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company

Patsy is getting close heavy rain and wind is a possible in next day or two. In afternoon A Company found a Rucksack in a hootch that was booby trapped, and a sign on trail warning of booby traps in area. At 1810hrs Alpha Company Priority Dust Off at BS765599 1 US Pfaff (believe it was SP4Thomas P. Pfaff was his name) burnt hand, from trip flare, Dust Off completed. At 1919hrs the 3rd Platoon reports their Night Defense Position is at BS757614, 2nd Platoon Night Defense Position BS755599, 1st and 4th platoon plus Command Post Night Defense Position at BS759612.

 

Bravo Company
November 20, 1970

Bravo Company 3rd Platoon detained 1 male wearing all back negative ID, 20 years of age and will back haul. 1st Platoon added 1 female detainee to back haul. At 1712hrs Bravo Company requests Priority Dust Off for 1 US with 3rd degree burns to right hand and fingers received by trip flare that went off SSgt James E Stitely completed at 1750hrs.

 

Charlie Company
November 20, 1970

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1717hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS749438 while acting on Intelligence captured 1 Vietnamese male age 47 wearing green, with ID DAO Thanh also 1 Vietnamese female age 19 dressed in green and black, had ID Nguyn Thi Sang, believed to have been a nurse for the VC 6 months ago, she was evading to the north, picked up by PSDF. The male was evading to the southwest and picked up by a blocking force. Male had a small green bag containing documents, green shirt, also had a rubber stamp, his name and a star on it. The name of his Ville (PHO-Phung), Believed to be a VC Officer, also had rice receipts, spotted a 3 person evading to the west, checked the area with negative findings.

 

Delta Company
November 20, 1970

Delta Company continued to use multiple patrolling in their Area of Operations. At 0820hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon Patrol is moving to BS684587. At 1018hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon closed on BS679570. At 1100hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is moving to BS670567. At 1120hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol has reached an area of high water and were unable to cross, checked out the area vicinity BS675566. At 1120hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol moved out at 1120hrs and now at checkpoint 1 vicinity BS678581. At 1225hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol at checkpoint 2 in vicinity BS684581, closed at 1240hrs at BS679570. At 1307hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol moved out to check out BS672564, BS666565 and BS667558. At 1458hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol has moved out to BS677566 and 3rd Platoon is moving to BS665570. At 1907hrs Delta Company reports locations Command Post at BS672573, 1st and 2nd Platoons at BS671572.

 

Echo Company
November 20, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1130hrs Recon Platoon closed on LZ Liz.
