Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0305hrs Saber 40 is on station to work NH Box 69 and 63 at BS749431 engaged 1 VC at 0350hrs and at BS0400hrs engaged 1camouflaged hooch at BS761427. Saber 40 refuel and at 0418hrs working Nighthawk Box 61 at 0450hrs 295 east to west to 286 east west bunkers on beach. BS935235 larger 33’ bunker camouflaged and at BS942228 5 sampans fully loaded in rocks, broke station at 0508hrs for Chu Lai. At 0530hrs LZ Liz Bunkers Inspection # 13, 14, 15, 16 and all bunkers were found satisfactory all had commo and knowledge of passwords. At 1515hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 13 is on station at this time. At 2015hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes out: Bravo 6, Charlie 3, Delta 6 for a total 15 out. At 2026hrs Nui Vong Called a practice alert at 2000hrs Alert ended at 2026hrs results all satisfactory. At 2037hrs TMF Sting 64 Target C has a unknown number of stationary personnel and negative metal confirmation and engaged at 2038hrs with 10 HE VT Artillery 105mm. At 2145hrs MACV Duc Pho, at 2130hrs vicinity BS885305 1 VC fired M-79 and AK 47 into OP, negative casualties, PF 188. At 2250hrs LZ Liz checked Bunkers 6, 7, 8 and 9 all OK. Guards have good knowledge of their duties, and the inspector was challenged at each bunker. Legend: 1st Platoon 34, 2nd Platoon 05, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 78, CO-07.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company at 0710hrs all elements closed on units and are moving toward LZ Liz. At 0900hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon will be securing Connex vicinity grid BS764413. At 0945hrs Alpha Company has started to close on LZ Liz and by 1212hrs have taken over the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 2230hrs LZ Liz Bunker line inspected: Inspected Bunkers #6, 7, 8, 9 all bunkers had good commo, Bunker 6 had no personnel on guard, 1 man was asleep on top of the bunker. The other 2 men were behind the bunker. Bunker 7 was in good shape. Bunker 8 did not challenge, personnel did know the primary password, but no the secondary password. Bunker 9 challenged at the right time, the inspector responded with the correct password, the inspector was then told to advance 10 paces, place his IDE card on the ground and then back up, he was also told that he wad cover wit a buck shot round. At that time the senior man on the bunker took charge and the inspector was allowed to advance. The inspector believes the bunker had prior knowledge of the inspection and 1 individual decided to clown around. All Bunkers had at least 4 claymores, 1 foogas and a large number of trip flares deployed.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1048hrs Bravo Company Command Post with 3rd Platoon is moving to Patrol base at BS728428, 2nd Platoon is moving to Patrol base at BS724436 with the 1st and 4th Platoons is moving to patrol Base at BS729453. At 1120hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS748436 sighted 2 VC with packs evading to the north at 200 meters engaged and have 1 VC/NVA KIA, believe his rucksack was carried away by the others VC who evaded north to northwest. KIA was male 25, green uniform and had a wallet with some NVA Money and pictures (back haul to Liz) element is still checking out area. At 1938hrs Bravo Company reports their Night Defense Position 1st and 4th Platoons at BS724453 with the Command Post, 3rd Platoon is at BS725437 and 2nd Platoon is at BS716437 with 6 Mechanical Ambush out.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0730hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon Patrol moving out to set up a OP at BS677539. At 0940hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon in their Patrol Base at BS666528. At 2014hrs all elements in their Night Defense Position Command Post, 2nd Platoon at BS645553, 2nd Platoon ambush at BS658561, 1st Platoon at BS663544 and 1st Platoon ambush at BS660545 with 3 Mechanical Ambush out.
Delta Company

Delta Company used Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0720hrs Delta Company Command Post element is moving out to Patrol Base at BS717509. At 0730hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is moving out to BS694514, Command Post in Patrol Base at BS717509. At 0800hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon in Patrol Base vicinity BS728485. At 1256hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon while in their Patrol Base found hooch concealed in a hedgerow. The hooch was 4’ X 5’ with grass sides and tin roof. Inside the hooch the 1st Platoon found 1 blanket (US Type) and 3 books believe to be made by Chinese. Books will be tagged and back hauled to LZ Liz on resupply, the hootch appears to be about your old. At 1615hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon moving out to BS691513, requested 1 Urgent Dust Off for US WIA #N3040 Nealeans, William. The man tripped a booby trap in high grass with trip wire about 75 meters from Patrol Base in an open field, Dust Off was handled by Dolphin 13, Resupply bird completed at 1625hrs. At 1853hrs Delta Company elements in their Night Defense Position 1st Platoon at BS695513, Command Post, 3rd and 4th Platoons at BS721500, 2nd Platoon at BS729486 with 6 Mechanical Ambush out. At 2050hrs Delta Company the Command Post called in a Fire Mission at BS691510 on an area suspected to be an enemy location, received 3 secondary explosions. SP4 William A. Nealeans was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0705hrs Recon is in their location at BS708427. Recon closed on LZ Liz.
