Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0430hrs 1-20 Infantry Radar sighted 8 to 10 stationary personnel at BS731460 with negative clearance and TMF at 2100hrs sighted 3 to 5 personnel with metal on string 75 at BS793370 and engaged with 12 HE of Artillery 105. At 0010hrs TMF sighted 4 to 5 personnel at string 73 at grid BS765390 and engaged with 6 HE of Artillery 105 and at 0030hrs sighted 8 to 10 personnel at BS849403 and engaged with 12 HE of Artillery 105. At 0330hrs 3-5 stationary personnel were sighted at BS783459 and negative clearance was given. At 0756hrs Brigade to 1-20 Infantry at approximately 1300hrs the 4th ARVN Recon will be inserted in the area of Delta Company 32, LZ will be at BS768566, BS772547 and BS778544.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
March 20, 1970
Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0955hrs one Chieu Hoi walked up to the wire at LZ Liz. He had on a NVA Brown uniform, was a 1LT and appeared in good health. He was from 3rd Company of 403rd Sapper Battalion. Their mission was to attack ARVN and US compounds with the 180 NVA. These NVA was located at BS640260, the battalion was bombed about 15 days ago and 6 were wounded. At 1947hrs Alpha Company reports the access road patrols are all roving in their respective areas.
Bravo Company
March 20, 1970
At 0658hrs Bravo Company 66 and 67 elements are sweeping to BS776468 and BS779462 respectively. At 0808hrs the 12 element is moving to search and clear BS7137 and the 62 element is moving to search and clear BS7138, BS7139 and the 32 element moving to search and clear BS7238. At 0850hrs the 30 element is in location and the tracker dog and Bravo element went over area and found 70 to 80 people had been there last night. At 1615hrs Bravo Company 37 element found one 8" round half below the ground with a stick in the end of it. It looked like the people who placed it there didn’t have time to fully bury it, grid BS811416. Bravo Company the 35 element has moved out to BS803428 where there is supposed to be a rice cache the 64 element is moving to BS787461 and the 66 element is moving to BS785480. At 1654hrs Bravo Company 64 element has picked up 2 Vietnamese male detainees age 43 wearing black pajamas and one 41 with black bottoms RF/PF believe they are VC and one additional female was detained at grid BS782462. At 1825hrs Bravo 35 element left a stay behind ambush of RF/PF at BS803428, we open up when we heard RF/PF sprung their ambush, two VC with M-16 evaded to the north. The PF in pursue of the VC when they hit a booby trap hand frag resulting in 2 PF WIA at BS803428. At 1837hrs Bravo Company we request an Urgent Dust Off for 2 ARVN who hit the hand frag booby trap multiple frag wounds to face and chest completed at 1905hrs.
Charlie Company

At 0940hrs Charlie Company the 12 element is conducting cloverleaf patrols from BS715383 and the 32 element is cloverleaf patrols from BS725383 and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1946hrs Charlie Company entire company is in our Night Defense Position at BS725393.
Delta Company
March 20, 1970
At 0756hrs 1-20 Infantry at approximately 1300hrs the 4th ARVN Recon will be inserted in the area of Delta Company 32, LZ are at BS768566, BS772547 and BS778544. Delta Company 12 is standing by at the access road to go to Bronco. At 0808hrs Delta Company 12 element is moving to search and clear BS7137 and the 62 element is moving to search and clear BS7138 and BS7139 and the 32 element is moving to search and clear BS7238. At 0845hrs Delta Company reports their Day Logger position at BS766384. At 0920hrs Delta Company 63 element is returning to the Day Logger the rocket was blown in place by the EOD team because it was 6 to 8 months old and unsafe to move. At 1000hrs Delta Company 62 element found a tunnel at BS760382, the entrance was 3’ square and the tunnel was 100’ long and emptied into a big room. We found 2 entrances and a small amount of rice. We are waiting for explosives. Delta Company 32 requested Urgent Dust Off for a baby who set off a booby trap mine. The female is 19, has frag wounds on leg and stomach grid BS780439. At 1335hrs Delta Company 12 we are moving to BS750430 with the 32 element at BS776535. At 1715hrs Delta Company we are at BS764393 and sending out patrols to BS754380, BS776391, BS776380 and BS745380. At 1740hrs Delta Company 12 our new Night Defense Position for E Troop (-) is at BS738406 with push for E Troop is 59.00 with the call sign of Galmour Group and our Night Defense Position is BS742424. At 1830hrs Delta Company 63 element found a 155 round close to the old Day Logger position which was blown in place. At 1854hrs Delta Company we are moving to our Night Defense Position at BS764394.
Echo Company
March 20, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0633hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Schedule Fires 7, 3 Observed Mission for a total expended 18 HE, 2 WP and 51 Illumination. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0842hrs Recon reports the 19 element is at BS726458, the 32 element is at BS723455 and the 34 element is at BS723465. At 1030hrs Recon the 34 element spotted one VC/NVA and fired on him but he evaded. The 34 element found blood trails at BS723465, which were going to the west. We had negative finding in checking out the area. At 1030hrs Recon the 32 element found a five man sleeping position at BS723455, it is shaped like a cave. At 1620hrs Recon the 19 element location for tonight is BS727456 and at 1635hrs the 33 element is moving out. At 1935hrs Recon Platoon we are in our Night Defense Position at BS727456.
