Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder as the Battalion returns to Control of the 11th Light Infantry Brigade Control in the Duc Pho Area of Operation. At 0320hrs 174th Flare Ship at BS773455, received small arms fire from the road vicinity BS773455, return fire and Bravo Company 19th Engineer with unknown results. Checked area and observed what looked to be digging on the road. At 0340hrs 174th Flare Ship observed approximately 100 individuals in a group vicinity grid BS833438, dropped a flare and group dispersed in all directions. Fired artillery at 0435hrs on suspected location, notified swift boat, they moved out to the east. At 0358hrs 1-20 Infantry on LZ Liz report that they have 2 personnel approaching their perimeter. Took them under fire 200 meters out, they moved out to the west results unknown. At 0905hrs Delta Company 4-21 Infantry OPCON to the 1-20 Infantry at BS717517 detained 1 VCS in hedgerow, 27 years old, white shirt, maroon shorts, straw hat and plastic sandals, has ID Card. At 1000hrs Delta Company 4-21 infantry detained 1 VCS male between 30-35 years old. NO ID card, wearing coolie hot, white shirt and blue shorts was moving east. The VCS will be evac to LZ Bronco. At 1018hrs Delta Company 4-21 Infantry is at BS721217 with 2nd Platoon at BS734499. Delta Company 1-52 Infantry reports their location at BS780935. At 1200hrs Delta Company 4-21 Infantry at BS736474 reports they have found spiders holes 2’ wide and 4’ deep, will destroy. At 1900hrs Alpha Battery 6-11 Artillery at LZ Dragon received sniper fire into LZ Dragon results 1 US WHA Dust Off was completed at 1920hrs. At 2040hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Delta Company 1-52 Infantry OPCON to 1-20 Infantry completed Dust Off for 1 US with high temperature.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0910hrs Signal Hill, Mr Gall, have fire burning on top on LZ Bronco request fire truck to be sent up. At 1004hrs Delta Company 19 Engineers at BS886292 reports command detonated mine set off on West side of Highway 1 at bridge 102. Wires traced back but no enemy seen or located with negative casualties. At 1015hrs Bravo Company 1015hrs at BS748508 Vietnamese Bus hit a mine 100 meters north of culvert on eastside of road. Believe pressure detonated result 16 Vietnamese wounded and 22 Vietnamese killed, Road had been sweep twice but mine didn’t register. In the past 2 weeks 2 other mines blown in same place. At 1148hrs HHC Company at BS830385 the man on bunker guard observed fire and heard explosion to front of Bunker 49,it was Recon Platoon working in the area blowing tunnels. At 1200hrs Delta Company 4-21 Infantry at BS736474 found spider holes 2’ wide and 4’ deep. At 1430hrs Delta Company 4-21 Infantry at BS724478 found 1 75mm dud round, request EOD to blow round. At 1820hrs LRRP Raleigh extracted at 1813hrs from BS687354. At 1845hrs Delta Company 19th Engineer pulled vehicle off road will bring back to LZ Max, Vehicle and EM belongs to 174th Aviation Battalion.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. At 1025hrs Alpha Company is located at BS916236 with the 1st Platoon at BS920270. At 1840hrs Alpha Company reports Night Defense Position BS916236 with ambushes at 20 BS916230, 31 BS908231, 32 at BS907233 and 33 at BS913236.
Bravo Company

At 1028hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon and Command Post is located at BS762400, 2nd Platoon at BS759371 and 3rd Platoon at BS746380. At 1125hrs Bravo Company at BS725413 spotted 8 males moving in column formation with black uniforms on and coolie hats, could not tell, if they had any weapons. At 1210hrs Bravo Company is located at BS763400. At 1240hrs Bravo Company at BS733397 engaged 2 VC wearing black PJ heading northwest and from the southwest results is 1 VC KIA. Then he ran into a hootch with the results I VC WIA CIA, no ID, no weapons some papers also 1 Pack with C: rations, booby trap cans, and a antipersonnel mine also shaving gear. Request you have Military Intelligence personnel at A & D to question WIA VC and Dust Off is requested, we also detained VCS, false ID card. At 1840hrs Bravo Company moves into their Night Defense Position at BS765397 with ambushes at 21 BS755398, 22 BS758403 and 23 BS762386.

Delta Company
June 20, 1968
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 1018hrs Delta Company is on LZ Thunder with 2nd Platoon and the 1st Platoon at BS874342, 3rd Platoon BS884317. At 1840hrs Delta Company (-) is on LZ Thunder, with ambushes at 31 BS847295, 32 at BS842303, 30 at BS835392, At 1945hrs at BS841300 moving out to ambush location received 8-10 60mm rounds and automatic weapons fire. The automatic weapons fire was not close results, 7 WHA with the Dust Off being completed at 1953hrs fired Artillery at suspected mortar location at BS826286 at 2005hrs. Delta Company reports the following SGT Carl R. Guillaume, PVT Robert E. O’leary, PFC Robert A. Speer and PFC John W. Arnold where evac and attached to the 2nd Surgical Hospital, PFC Wellie N. Walls and PFC Joseph R. David (evac on the June 21, 1968.)
Echo Company

Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. At 1018hrs Recon Platoon reports Recon 1 at BS825391, Recon 2 and Command Post at BS834395 with Recon 3 at BS831399. At 1033hrs Recon Platoon at BS832392 picked up 1 female VCS, 19-20 years old carrying a basket, she tried to evade fired warning shot and she stopped. PF say she is a VC, wearing light gray shirt and black trousers. Also found a couple of well-used trails in that area. At 1127hrs Recon Platoon reports at BS833395 found 1 complete claymore in bag, found small bag of gunpowder in rafters of bombed out hooch. Also found a tunnel with nothing in it was destroyed as best as possible. At 1155hrs Recon Platoon reports at BS833394 found tunnel in same area as other tunnel, 2’ by 2’ opening 3-4’ high and 5’ long, no equipment or anything. At 1400hrs Recon Platoon at BS835387 detained 1 VCS evading also found in same area 1 ammo can with change of clothing, first aid kit and documents, will evac can and contents. At 1500hrs Recon also reports found 3 55 gallon drums buried and filled with rice, will evac if little people cannot. At 1840hrs Recon Platoon reports their Command Post and Night Defense Position at BS838391 with Recon 3 at BS835392.
