Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0415hrs MACV The link up point for exchange of commandos with Delta Company grid BS742569, Time 1600hrs Mo Duc to confirm time later today. 1-20 Infantry 1-20 Infantry requested an Area of Operation extension Date/Time/ Gird 210600 to 211900 July 1970, from BS700572 to BS700572 to BS738550. The purpose is so 2 Platoons of Delta Company can have Combat Assault vicinity BS716565, in reaction to Intelligence. At 0900hrs was approved by Warrant Officer Dee, Plan D-93. At 1100hrs Brigade was informed of a total of 24 mechanical ambushes where out Bravo Company 8, Charlie Company 6, Delta Company 4 and Recon 6. At 1610hrs The 26 Engineer and Bravo Company 34 element found 1 (ammo can) with documents, pictures, and other articles also enemy helmet, 1 US Claymore and firing device, will evac documents to Military Intelligence with claymore blown in place. At 1616hrs Brigade proposed schedule: Colonel R. J. Williams, Commander Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment on 24 July en route to LZ Liz 0900hrs to 0910hrs, Briefing 0910hrs to 1630hrs. Briefing arranged by the Commander of 1-20 Infantry. At 1750hrs the 26 Engineer Rap Up: In a total of 81 hrs 110 acres (500 X 800) were cleared BS736675 to BS744675 all inside river. We destroyed 12 bunkers, 100 meters of tunnel, 1 booby trap, 1 each 105 round, 1 Chi Com hand grenade, 1 nose 250 pound bomb and 1 each M-79 round. Found a camouflaged hootch with documents, picture and ID cards, will be sent the Military Intelligence tomorrow. Engineer used 650 gallons of fuel and 6 pounds of explosive were used. 9 D7 operational, 2 D7 are dead line, 1 with broken track, and 1 with track plunger also 1 CEV operational, 1 AC operational and 1 M548 operational. At 1815hrs TMF String 73 was called at 1806hrs on 6 packs moving northeast to southwest at 3 miles per hour (target bravo) and there was metal confirmation but negative clearances. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company is OPCON to the 4-3 Infantry and continued their Search and Clear Operation around their location at BS600505 and to use Day and Night Ambushes with Mechanical Ambushes. At 0815hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon at BS601511 detained 4 VC females, with no ID, 45-60 years, with 2 baby’s about 1 month old will evac to LZ Bronco. Alpha Company is OPCON to the 4-3 Infantry at 1455hrs Alpha reports their location at BS604516 as they will conducts Search and Clear Operations around their present location. At 1800hrs to 1900hrs is area from BS601513 to BS505514 found small tunnel 2 X 3 X 5, one area with 30 sleeping positions, spider holes and at BS605514 found a trail heading East and south which appears hasn’t been use for a couple of weeks. Alpha Company reports that the trail to West appears to have been used yesterday. At 1725hrs Alpha Company reports their Night Defense Position at BS614498. At 1835hrs Alpha Company found 1 small sign and the Kit Carson Scout said it was a Bobby Trap Warning and the Southeast trail is clear. At 2135hrs Alpha Company is located at BS613494.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their joint Operations with PF and RF units on their Hamlet Pacification and security of Highway 1. At 0743hrs Bravo Company the 38 element has closed on their Day Logger at BS718637. At 0755hrs Bravo Company the 26 element has closed on their Day Logger at BS707622 and at 0800hrs the 56 element has closed on their Day Logger at BS712584. At 1415hrs Bravo Company discovered 30’ tunnel with 200 pounds of rice wrapped in plastic bags, located at grid BS740674 and polished and locally grown. Spread by dossiers and found 1 105 Artillery round and a tomato can with a pressure booby trap device, also a 250 bomb fuse with a small explosive charge, both were blown in place. A 1552hrs Bravo Company the 34 element discovered a 200’ complex underground with a fireplace, a well and hammock hooks at BS743674. Also a well camouflaged hootch with an empty M-16 bandoleer and 4 flashlight batteries at BS710674. A place for melting Petna area was destroyed by the engineers. Bravo Company continued to provide security for the Engineers with the RF and PF elements. At 1855hrs Bravo Company 56 element at grid BS738595 called for an Urgent Dust Off for 1 PF 250 who stepped on a booby trap received leg and month wounds, receiving sniper fire form the east at approximately 800 meters the Dust Off completed at 1920hrs. At 1902hrs Bravo Company the 56 element is receiving sniper fire from the estimated 3 enemies to receive a few rounds from the northwest also 1 enemy seen on a hill 300 meters away with Purple top and black bottoms with weapon, evaded to the east. They received a total of 20 rounds of small arms area, and they checked that area with negative findings.

Delta Company
July 20, 1970
Delta Company continued their Day and Night Ambushes and saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0615hrs Delta Company the 54 element is moving out to BS766558, the 55 and 38 elements are moving out 55 to BS757563 and 68 to BS754462. Delta Company the 34 and 24 elements have reached their preplanned Day Loggers 34 at BS764568 and 24 at BS759580. At 1145hrs Delta Company the 54 element has 1 detainee, female dressed in usual blue and purple. Her name is Ho Thi Tin, she has negative ID and is 19 years old at grid BS764568 will evac to Military Intelligence. At 1550hrs Delta Company 24 element call for a routine Dust Off for 1 US temperature 103 with chills, nausea and aches, Line # 134R Pvt. Reeder Dust Off completed 1710hrs. The 37 element is moving back to link up with the PF took five rounds small arms fire from area of mangroves at BS740469. At 1710hrs Delta Company the 37 element at BS740569 is moving back from the link up with PF took 1 round small arms fire from area of mangroves. At 1730hrs at BS752564 the 56 patrol is moving received sniper fire, returning fire now and the 55 and 56 elements sweeping the area engaged 3-4 enemy, received 100 rounds of AK fire. Enemy was stationary and about 300 meters to the northwest. They checked out the area with negative results. The reason for no Artillery order was because the proximity of the Ville. At 2124hrs Delta Company the 24 element is in pre planned location at BS747580, and the 34 element is in pre planned location at BS756574. The 54 element is 200 meters south of pre planned location BS757566.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0545hrs Recon Platoon is closing on LZ Liz to take up their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
