Headquarters and Headquarters Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0105hrs 4-4 ARVN Battalion made contact with unknown size enemy force with result 2 friendly WIA, Urgent Dust Off called, have 4 VC KIA, 1 AK47 CIA along with 700 kilo of rice and 650 kilo of corn, and 6 hootches destroyed, at BS453400. At 0715hrs Resupply bird is on station call sign upright 590. At 0818hrs MACV Mo Duc H Troop, 17 Calvary and RF 180 found 15 bunkers none recently used. 12 Graves 3 to 4 months old, 1 tunnel with rice baskets and 1 B-40 propellant, US confirmed at BS658511. At 1015hrs Charlie Battery 6-11 Artillery had a convoy proceeding north from LZ Liz and at grid BS738530, the lead vehicle of the convoy hit a Vietnamese woman. She is seriously injured. The convoy continued north, but the S&T convoy heading south at that time stopped and rendered aid and the Military Police support. The Convoy and driver was halted and apprehended at LZ Snoopy and a dust off is being call at this time. At 1100hrs Inferno 56 broke station the weather is to bad to work. At 1516hrs Convoy departed for Chu Lai 11 vehicles and 22 packs. At 1516hrs Primo 3 (11 Infantry Brigade Aviation) is on station. At 1525hrs Resupply bird has broken station. At 1645hrs MACV Mo Duc reports H Troop and RF Company 180 had a Mechanical Ambush detonated by unknown source, check are and CIA 2 VC mines and 1 pair of VC sandals at BS688513. At 1920hrs 1-20 Infantry reports their Field Strength Alpha 50, Charlie 58, HHC 16, and Echo 24. At 2030hrs Inferno Black (Bravo 123 Aviation) is on station box 67X is on station box 51, at 2108hrs into Nighthawk Box 50 and broke station to refuel at 2138hrs. At 2330hrs while inferno Black was checking LZ Liz perimeter, Recon observed 3 personnel evade to the west at approximate 400 meters. When the Nighthawk approached, they informed the Nighthawk and he checked the area thoroughly with negative results. Recon will check again at first light BS758407. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company
August 20, 1971
Alpha Company is on LZ Liz preparing for Move West and LZ Liz to be turn over to the ARVN. Alpha Company conducts a Eagle Flight at 1120hrs from BS715300 to BS652305, BS659327 and BS659324 completed at 1248hrs LZ Cold. At 1930hrs at BS712297 and 712297 received 10-20 small arms fire with negative casualties or damage.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Charlie Company
August 20, 1971
At 1558hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon while setting up at grid BS653318 took one round sniper fire from the south approximately 300 meters. Round hit individual in bandoleer and went through fleshy part of the thigh. Injured man was SP4 Treadwell, Dust Off competed at 1601hrs. Charlie Company reports their Night Defense Position at BS729328. SP4 William Treadwell was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and prepares to move north and turn over LZ Liz to the ARVN.
Echo Company
August 20, 1971
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry at LZ Liz. Recon reports their location at BS758408.
