Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0615hrs Command Message for the day given to Rear Commander and Recon Platoon (Give timely and Accurate Reports). At 0905hrs 137 LE at BS776450 Vehicle detonated mine with results 2 US WIA E (info only). At 0905hrs 26th Engineer at grid BS785425 a little boy hit a mine, 2 casualties were dusted off. They did receive sniper fire at this location. They did receive sniper fire at that location sending an element to check out area. At 0945hrs Delta Company 39 Engineer at BS705602 report 5 ton vehicle detonated a anti personnel mine, damage rim and tire, from left side negative casualties and damage items repaired and continue mission. At 1000hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS730435, while on mine sweep received sniper fire and a 1 X 10 ton lowboy detonated mine with results 2 US WIA (E). Dust Off completed at 1025hrs extensive damage to lowboy (info only). At 1010hrs Charlie Company 19 Engineer at BS783430 reports culvert sire 401 east blown with 15 to 20 pounds placed 5 to 7 feet inside east end wall. Crater 5’ to 6’ wide at the top, results 2/3 of head wall destroyed 10’ to 20’ of culvert damage, road is passable will repair at later date. At 2120hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS755468, LZ Max received 10-15 rounds unknown type of mortar from BS757477, BS770475 and BS773470. Results reports 4 US WIA (M), Gun Ships on station and expended their ammo with unknown results (info only).
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion.
Alpha Company
August 20, 1969
At 1410hrs Alpha Company that believes the Vietnamese man with us is leading us into some sort of ambush. The senior MACV advisor is with us and had no knowledge of ARVN uniformed people with weapons, ammo and etc. We have three possible NVA/VC in a Ville with packs etc, seems strange they could operate in area with so many ARVANS and not be spotted (they evaded us). Also this Vietnamese man wanted us to split our element (which we didn’t) and has us several hundred meters off what was supposed to be our objective. Senior Advisor information Vietnamese personnel is reliable as far as we know, he works for Mo Duc district. We have met with the PF at this location and my interpreter says they are PF man pointed out 2 areas where VC/NVA where at. One is Company size and one platoon size we moved east toward the platoon size VC/NVA. At 1545hrs Alpha Company is checking out Night Defense Position at location BS711609. At 2005hrs Alpha Company 93 element OP are in location at BS710608. At 2100hrs Alpha Company, Firefly, we have movement to our front and trip flare went off and we fired 81mm on them and have unknown results at this time Firefly is on station.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz along with the Access Road.
Charlie Company
August 20, 1969
At 0631hrs Charlie Company we are moving at this time some unit working with little people and conducting sweep and clear operations in their Area of Operation. At 1950hrs Charlie Company BS799421 we are now moving into out Night Defense Position and we received 8 rounds of 81mm from friendly little people, the little people were firing for bridge 402.
Delta Company
August 20, 1969
All snakes closed and Delta Company moving out at 0635hrs to Day Logger at BS737457. At 1900hrs Delta Company is moving to their Night Defense Position and 91, 92 and 22 moving the snakes out to their locations. At 2135hrs Delta Company spotted about platoon size VC/NVA force about 300 meters to our north, they are moving northwest engaging them with M-60 and M-79 also spotted 2 to 3 VC/NVA in the open about 200 to 300 meters north from our perimeter now engaging.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0630hrs reports Defense Target 2, Observe Missions 1 with total expended 11 HE, WP 4 rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0850hrs Recon Platoon is leaving wire at this time. At 1025hrs Recon Platoon at grid BS725436. At 1500hrs will be moving to grid BS723533 to Recon for a Night Defense Position. At 1210hrs Recon has at snake at BS723430. At 1515hrs Recon Platoon is moving at this time. At 1745hrs Recon has moved into their snake location at BS727430. At 1940hrs Recon we are moving to our Night Defense Position.
