Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Vanguard and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0535hrs Condor Blue (Bravo 123 Aviation) is working Nighthawk Box 54 and broke station at 0546hrs. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97, CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company
September 1, 1971
At 0805hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon moving out to BS760355 and closed on that location at 0715hrs. At 0825hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon then closed on BS762354. At 1130hrs Alpha Company at BS572434 found 1 Chi Com at BS572434 found 1 Chi Com Booby Trap with trip wire over across old foxhole. At 1955hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon closed on their Night Defense Position at BS762352. Alpha Company field strength is 43 packs and Alpha Company has 1 Mechanical Ambush out tonight.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Vanguard.
Charlie Company
September 1, 1971
At 1515hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon closed at BS631457 and at 1555hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon is at BS627457 and at 1610hrs Charlie Company is at BS627460. At 1730hrs Charlie Company closed at BS631457 along with the Recon Platoon and they then move to BS681451 and at 1940hrs Closed at their Night Defense Position with Recon at BS631453.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Vanguard. At 0925hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon moving out on a security Patrol around LZ Vanguard and at 1010hrs moving out to BS574439. At 1215hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon Patrol is at BS574439. At 1115hrs Brigade requested an Air Lift for Alpha Company, Charlie Company and Delta Company from LZ Vanguard to LZ Custer open at BS512573. At 1545hrs Delta Company has closed back on LZ Vanguard.
Echo Company
September 1, 1971
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Vanguard, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1730hrs Recon has moved to BS631457 and set up an OP. At 1940hrs Recon has closed in on their Night Defense Position at BS631453.
