Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. 0638hrs Command message passed on to Companies (Don’t supply Charlie-Police UP). At 0825hrs 1-20 Infantry reports a Dust Off request: Priority. 1 Vietnamese litter patient with gunshot to forehead, Picked up in a hootch by Alpha Company, brought to LZ Liz by Command and Control Helicopter. Vietnamese male shot by friendly light auto fire, completed at 0852hrs. At 1055hrs LZ Liz from 1 September 1969 Access road will not be open to vehicles until S-3 approves each morning. A 5 Ton pressure testing vehicles will back down the access road each morning after mine sweep is complete, not until mine sweep leader approves, pressure vehicle completes miss and the S-3 approves with the access road be open to traffic. A salvaged 5 ton will be arriving at Liz to be used each day for pressure test. At 1330hrs Convoy is at my Location at this time. At 1418hrs Command and Control Helicopter reports at gird BS758489 a vehicle hit a mine and Dust Off for 1 US John Sterling. At 1800hrs Ajax Alpha Company 113, Bravo Company 93, Charlie Company 94, Delta Company 108, Recon 25 and the 4.2 Platoon 26. At 1820hrs Brigade has cancelled operations for Recon Platoon. At 1837hrs 1-20 to Alpha, Bravo, Charlie Command and Control Helicopter will pick up 1 EM per platoon at 0630hrs tomorrow 2 September 1969. EM will attend demo training to be conducted at this location, starting at 0730hrs.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion.
Alpha Company
September 1, 1969
At 0825hrs 1-20 Infantry reports a Dust Off request: Priority. 1 Vietnamese litter patient with gunshot to forehead. Picked up in a hootch by Alpha Company and is brought to LZ Liz by Command and Control Helicopter. Vietnamese male shot by friendly light auto fire, completed at 0852hrs. At 0810hrs Alpha Company is located at BS729550. At 0900hrs Alpha Company late report at 2130hrs on last nights incident at BS728559 though there was movement around perimeter also thought we received light area fire. Returned fire resulting in burning haystack and it burned up. Checked haystack in morning, was a family type bunker hit old man in the head, also an old man and child burned to death, 1st old man Dust Off at 0852hrs. At 1200hrs Alpha Company still located at BS729550 and will conduct a Search and Destroy operation in their Area of Operation. At 1815hrs 1-20 Infantry to Alpha Company informed of the requirements for 2 personnel to be sent to the rear for an interview for assignment to Recon, will send in 2 line number as candidates. At 2120hrs Alpha Company the track spotted movement with starlight scope to the northeast 2 to 5 personnel and we put M-60 fire on them with negative results.
Bravo Company

At 0002hrs Bravo Company our 32 element is now leaving Night Defense Position. At 0520hrs Bravo 63 element has closed on Bridge and at 0600hrs the 32 snake has closed on Night Defense Position. At 0810hrs Bravo Company is located at BS789416 and at 0920hrs Bravo Company New elements numbers for bridge sites. North Bridge 64 element, South Bridge 63 element while the 64 element was returning from snake location found 2 male VCS in Ville grid BS778459. 1 male 18 years old, negative ID, no explanation why he was there and Little People said he a good VCS. At 1220hrs Bravo Company Operation September 1-2, 1969 Night Defense Position for 1st September 1st grid BS775451, snake 92 grid BS780440, the 69 snake at grid BS770438 with the 64 element. The 1 platoon of Ruff Puffs will stay at the Night Defense Position and snake 63 1600hrs Bravo Company at BS789416 which they will use as their Night Defense Position and the 64 element will have a snake at BS793402. The Sept 2nd Operations will start with a Search and Clear Operation moving from BS767449 move out at 0500hrs and the 69 element blocking force at grid BS761450 with our Day Logger at BS775456. At 2000hrs Bravo Company is in their Night Defense Position and at 2115hrs snake are in their locations.
Charlie Company

At 0810hrs Charlie Company at BS727468 as Charlie Company moving out of their Night Defense Position one US tripped over a claymore wire connected to a blasting cap with negative casualties or damage, believe it was supposed to be a booby trap. At 1200hrs Charlie Company is located at BS717467 our Day Logger and at 1245hrs Charlie Company Recon in Force to BS712462, when 32 element returns 92 element Recon in Force to BS714478. At 1330hrs The Convoy is at my location at this time. At 1510hrs Charlie Company 62 Recon in Force left Day Logger, and at 1510hrs closed back on Day Logger. At 1930hrs Charlie Company at BS716466 4.2 Forward Observer observed 5 personnel at BS728468 and called a 4.2 Mission with negative assessment.
Delta Company
September 1, 1969
Delta Company continued the Security Mission for LZ Liz and Access Road. SGT Mack H. Franks was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital. At 0530hrs Delta Company reports the tracks that were OPCON to my elements have been released.
Echo Company
September 1, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. . At 0630hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Observed Fires 2 and Defense Targets 2 for a total expended 21 HE and 1 WP rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0810hrs Recon Platoon is located at BS742423 and at 1000hrs still in their OP. At 1200hrs Recon Platoon has move to BS742457. At 1600hrs Recon is located at LZ Liz. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0659hrs Recon reports Tracks and Recon are moving at this time. At 0810hrs Tracks and Recon are now at Checkpoint 1 at BS743422. At 0915hrs Tracks and Recon can’t find a crossing in this area, will move north along river until we find a crossing, also negative results on search of area vicinity grid BS743433. At 0940hrs Tracks and Recon report found a crossing at the river proceeding north at this time and at 1000hrs we are at Checkpoint 2. At 1150hrs Tracks and Recon report we are now at Checkpoint 4 at BS742457. At 1340hrs Recon will be at proper location around 1600hrs at BS738738. At 1425hrs Tracks and Recon reports tracks are at grid BS745456 going to blow a live 155 rounds and at 1530hrs reports that they closed on LZ Liz. At 1820hrs 11 Brigade has cancelled operations for Recon Platoon.
