Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0130hrs MACV, Duc Pho starting at 0130hrs Duc Pho received several incoming Hand grenades and mortar rounds and possibly a B-40 rocket, Results 3 PF WHA minor also received some small arms fire all contact ceased approximately 0210hrs. At 0815hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC Charlie Company 19 Engineer report at 0804hrs at BS916167 and BS920179, found 2 road blocks, constructed of rocks, there were no explosives inside the barriers. At 0945hrs MACV, Duc Pho follow up reports on morning action, it appears that approximately 30 VC attacked Pho Bien Headquarter compound at BS804386 with satchel charges, banderole torpedoes, M-79 and small arms fire. They blew 1 hole in the fence but did not penetrate the compound with results where RD cadre and 2 PF where slightly wounded, had 1 VC KIA and found 1-banderole torpedoes, 1 satchel charge and 6 grenades on him. At 1020hrs Military Police request permission for Military Intelligence to go to BS829360 with 24 National Police to check on a tunnel reported through intelligence source, approved by the (1-20 Infantry TOC). At 1052hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports Charlie Company 19 Engineer at BS919198, mine sweep team found 20 81mm mortar duds under a wood pile behind a farmer hootch, will be destroyed their Command Post. At 1115hrs Military Police will not get to BS808360, but will go to 3-1 Infantry Area of Operation.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued to conducts their search and clear operation. At 1820hrs Alpha Company is in their Night Defense Position at BS785380 with ambushes at BS778386, BS779379, BS780374, BS783368, BS789361, and BS796372.
Bravo Company
September 1, 1968
At 0835hrs Bravo Company reports their location at 876345. At 1820hrs Bravo Company Command Post at BS876349 with ambushes at BS861368, BS866363, BS869358, BS871341, BS854354, BS861346 and BS863337.
Charlie Company
September 1, 1968
At 0835hrs Charlie Company 30 is at BS882316, 31 at BS894295 and 31 at BS900298 with LRRP Farmer at BS770351 and Texas no change. At 0830hrs Charlie Company is at BS882316 found ammo in hedgerow in can found 1 carbine magazine with 15 rounds of ammo, 54 M-1 rounds, 33 M-14 rounds, 2 M-14 Magazines, 16 M-16 magazines, also some pictures with negatives will evac to LZ Bronco. At 1225hrs 30 is at BS887310 the only change in Location for Charlie Company. At 1610hrs Charlie Company at BS891295 picked up 2 VCS ages 16-20 years old. They were running from hooch, did not take people under fire, instead we ran them down, will interrogate and send to LZ Bronco. At 1820hrs Charlie Company reports their locations 11 at BS843307 and all other elements on LZ Thunder, LRRP farmer BS773353 and Texas at BS822295.
Delta Company

Delta Company at 0027hrs at BS807262 ambush sighted individual moving down the road with pack began digging in road, took under fire but suspect escaped leaving pack on road are calling for illumination to check out the pack. Checked area found a mine in hole in road 30 pounds explosives completely rigged for detonation also found some batteries. At 0835hrs Delta Command Post at BS918239 and Delta Company is at BS915226, two VCS evading engaged results 1 VCS WIA CIA and the other got away area calling Dust Off now. At 1225hrs Delta Company 10 is at BS916229 and 30 and Command Post at BS917237 with the 20 at LZ Charlie Brown. At 1542hrs at BS912263, had vehicle heading from North to south received 8 rounds of small arms fire with negative casualties. At 1535hrs BS918234, PF reported a squad of VC with 3-4 weapons moving into village, PF and E Troop 30 element will move into a blocking position so Delta Company 10 and 20 elements will sweep through. At 1545hrs at BS918234 Delta Company swept through village Nith with negative results. At 1820hrs Delta Company is at BS896232, with ambush at BS907233, BS900239, and BS894227.
Echo Company

Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 0835hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS735292. At 1820hrs Recon Platoon reports their Night Defense Position at BS896232 and BS791285 with ambush at BS793286. At 1933hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC Recon Platoon at BS791287 spotted 7 VC with packs, VC dropped packs and evaded to west into draw, unable to engage. Pack had bananas, red apples, rice and other assorted items of that nature.
