Headquarters and Headquarter Company
February 1, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1317hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC status Report Troop E 1st Calvary is blocking at bridge 94. Delta Company 2nd Platoon moving from present position to BS920225, with 2nd Platoon moving south to vicinity of bridge 95. Alpha Company 1st Platoon is moving south behind LZ Bronco. PF remaining in present location, RF Company will join on call. At 1515hrs 1-20 TOC 1-20 completed Dust Off of 5 Vietnamese lightly wounded during confusion at Sa Huynh. At 1830hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports the result of fire-fight at Sa Huynh vicinity BS922223,BS925225, BS923223, results 2 PF KIA, 1 PF WIA, 1 civilian KIA, 13 civilian WIA, 2 VC KIA, and 31 VC CIA-held by the PF who are still searching Village. At 2055hrs Division TOC the following naval support will be available during the night of 1-2 February 1968 Coast Guard WPB Boat Same Drink Romeo, Swift Boat Same Drink Romeo Mike. At 2119hrs Duc Pho Advisor Major Smith, reports a meeting of VC and villages at BS858357, PF platoon leader got information and request H & I fire. At 2214hrs Duc Pho Advisor reports small arms and mortar fires east of Bridge 110, request APC to block between Bridges 110-111, also small VC group attacking Whyn Thyon Hamlet, response with counter mortar fire. At 2215hrs 174th Aviation Flare ship reported mortars being fired into RD area south of city and south of runway. Three bridges under attack 110 at BS815359, 115 at BS789717 and the bridge to Carentan, movement and firing into the city. At 2330hrs (Late entry) Major Smith Duc Pho Advisor VC were reported inside the village at bridge 115 at BS789717 called in artillery, with results 3 PF killed, 1 PF serious wounded, enemy losses unknown.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0122hrs 11 Brigade TOC reports incoming mortars and small arms beginning at 0105hrs in Duc Pho area. At 0220hrs 11 Brigade reports ground contact southeast perimeter of LZ Bronco (light) with 3-1 Infantry and 1-20 Infantry with negative contact.

 

Alpha Company
February 1, 1968

At 1317hrs Alpha Company with 1st Platoons is moving south behind LZ Bronco and the PF forces are remaining in their positions waiting to sweep the village with the RF Forces on call. At 1405hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon is at bridges 106-108, 2nd Platoon at 885304 with 3rd Platoon at BS887293. At 1925hrs Alpha Company has a 6 men element in OP position at BS850390 with the call size of Fox Trot 1. At 2040hrs Alpha Company at Bridge 105 at BS883304, is presently receiving small arms fire, no further details at this time. Alpha Company still has the Security Mission for LZ Thunder.

 

Bravo Company
February 1, 1968

At 1208hrs Bravo Company the 2nd Platoon of Bravo and the 4th Platoon of Delta Company at LZ Charlie Brown return fire on sniper that have been shooting and firing stop with negative results. At 1317hrs Bravo Company is moving south with 2nd Platoon to bridge 95.

 

Charlie Company
February 1, 1968

Charlie Company (Task Force Barker 198 Light Infantry Brigade) continued their Security Mission for LZ Dottie. Charlie Company at 1330hrs Charlie Company detained 1 man of military age, will not answer questions will evac for further questioning.

 

Delta Company
February 1, 1968

At 0930hrs Delta Company reports 1st Platoon and 2nd Platoon at BS805301 with the 3rd Platoon on Bridges 99 and 100. At 1100hrs Delta Company locations as follows 1st Platoon at BS818291 and 2nd platoon at BS907220 with 3rd and 4th Platoons on LZ Charlie Brown. Delta Company at BS907220 Reported at 1208hrs there is a general exodus of people from SA HUYNH with bag and baggage. The 4th Platoon on LZ Charlie Brown is receiving sniper fire and they found 2 PF KIA along the beach. The 1st Platoon Alpha Company and 2nd Platoon Bravo Company on Charlie Brown returning fire and the 1st Platoon at 1317hrs is moving from present position to vicinity BS920225 also 1 Platoon Troop E 1-1 Calvary blocking at bridge 94. Bravo Company is moving there remaining 2 Platoons south behind LZ Bronco. RF Company will join on call. At 1515hrs Delta Company completed a Dust Off for 5 Vietnamese civilians who were lightly wounded during the confusion at SA Huynh. At 1830hrs 1-20 Infantry report on results of fire fight at Sa Huynh vicinity grid BS922223, BS925225, BS923223, 2 PF KIA, 1 PF WIA, 1 civilian KIA, 13 civilians WIA, and 2 VC KIA, 31 VC CIA held by PF with no US casualties. Alpha Company has 1st and 2nd Platoon in blocking position vicinity BS850390 as the PF are still searching village at 1915hrs. Alpha Company has a 6 men element in position at BS850390 call sign will be foxtrot 1 or all and they move back to LZ Thunder.

 

Echo Company
February 1, 1968

Echo Company and 4.2 platoon and radar platoon where located on LZ Thunder to provide direct support to the Battalion. Recon Platoon has the Security Mission for LZ Thunder.
