Headquarters and Headquarter Company
December 1, 1970

Forward Area: (1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz) and will continue to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0650hrs AMC on station, Battalion Commander departed LZ Liz for Combat Assault of Delta Company. At 0830hrs 1-20 Infantry Combat Assault: 1. PZ 0710hrs Delta 02 LZ at BS724612, 2. PZ 0717hrs Delta 92 LZ at BS724602, 3. PZ 0728hrs W-S LZ at BS724602, PZ 0740hrs Delta 52 LZ at BS726591 and Combat Assault is completed and lift ships are released. At 0740hrs Primo 3 spotted 1 Vietnamese male with weapon, wearing all black vicinity BS739591. He was hiding when Primo was overhead, he evaded into a hedgerow, the Delta Company2nd Platoon alerted to this and moving to check out the area. At 1337hrs Helix 39 on station sent vicinity BS738632, where Delta Company had contact. At 1425hrs Helix 39 broke station and at 1505hrs Helix 39 on station sent to Delta Company. At 1517hrs Primo 6 is on station. At 1645hrs Mo Duc MACV: reacting to intelligence that were 4 Hoi Chanhs vicinity BS759614, Mo Duc MACV inserted 7 NPFF personnel with an informer. They moved into the area and made visual contact with the 4 Hoi Chanhs, 1 M-1 carbine, and 1 SKS and the Hoi Chanhs evac to Mo Duc. At 1838hrs Q Company purchased the following from 5 Vietnamese child 4 81mm HE rounds, 2 60mm HE rounds, 1 4.2 HE round, 1 M-26 hand frag grenade, 1 155mm round, 1 155 fuse cap and they paid 6 meals of C rations. At 1921rhs TMF String 72 Target 7, Stationary Target, metal was detected and engaged with 16 VT HE rounds 105mm Artillery. At 2137hrs TMF String 72 C, Stationary target, metal was confirmed and engaged at 2108 with 16 VT HE rounds105mm Artillery. Legend: 1st Platoon 02-07, 2nd Platoon 92-97, 3rd Platoon 52-57, 4th Platoon 42-47 and CO 44.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
December 1, 1970

At 0915hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS757577 found 40 pounds of tobacco buried underground in a plastic bag. Located near a bunker will destroy. At 1349hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon patrol closed BS745574, 2nd Platoon patrol closed on BS765586, 2nd Platoon patrol move out for BS764577. At 1943hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon, 4th Platoon and Command Post at BS754575, 3rd Platoon ambush BS754571, 2nd Platoon at BS765576 and ambush BS767573, 1st Platoon BS738578 ambush BS737577 and BS748562. At 2103hrs 1st Platoon had movement spotted 2 people in the opening. Waited until they were 100 meters away from their position and engaged with small arms. The people evaded northwest. Currently firing 81mm Illumination and 1st Platoon is checking out the area. At 2125hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon checked out the area of engagement with 2 packs, negative results, will check again at first light.

 

Bravo Company
December 1, 1970

Bravo Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz and the 1-20 Infantry.

 

Charlie Company
December 1, 1970

At 1005hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon moved out to BS740610 and at 1220hrs 1st Platoon Patrol closed BS745574, 2nd Platoon patrol closed on BS765586 and soon after moved out for BS764577, with Command Post at BS742610. At 2100hrs Charlie Company Platoons locations at Night Defense Position at BS738618, 1st Platoon ambush BS739624, 2nd Platoon BS739608, and 3rd Platoon ambush BS731609.

 

Delta Company
December 1, 1970

Delta Company conducted their Combat Assault from 0710hrs to 0745hrs into BS724612, BS724602 and BS726591. Primo 3 spotted 1 VN male with weapon wearing all black at BS739591. He was hiding when Primo 3 was overhead, he evaded into a hedgerow. 2nd Platoon received 2 rounds of Sniper fire from BS741592 about 600-800 meters away and beginning to sweep into area with MACV personnel and checking it out. At 1150hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon Vicinity BS728593 while on Patrol saw 1 military age male about 200 meters away was dressed in green and black with negative weapon. 3rd Platoon engaged him as he evaded to the north. Checkout the area and found 1 US type hand Frag (Destroyed it) also found 1 tunnel which they checked out and frigid, had negative finding on the personnel. At1215hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon at checkpoint 1 vicinity BS721617. 1225hrs 2nd Platoon detained two Vietnamese females’ vicinity BS737595. They are both approximately 45 years old, 1 with ID wearing all black and the other wearing gold and black and negative ID, National Police advised releasing them. At 1432hrs Delta Company requests urgent Dust Off for 2 US vicinity BS735596, a man hit a Booby-Trap has frag wounds to chest, the other man is KIA from fragmentation. The one WHA was Charles Laflame. Dust Off took fire and extracted only the WHA. Dust Off complete 1500hrs, took fire as it was leaving Gun Ships where on station and hit the area, the Helix 33 putting a Air Strike at BS733600 and then followed up with Artillery fire after the Air Strikes. WHA was wearing a flak jacket. At 1650hrs 3rd Platoon took fire from BS731604 believed to be 10 VC with small arms, detonated 1 Booby trap at vicinity BS734596. Booby-trap located, at the entrance to a bunker, believed to be a large can of Petna, similar to a 155mm Artillery round. It a pressure-firing device detonated as a man was checking the bunker out result in 1 US KIA and 1 WIA. At 1914hrs Delta Company, Common Post, 3rd Platoon, 4th Platoon, all in location BS728592, 1st Platoon BS724615 and BS727612 with 2nd Platoon at BS744589. At 2010hrs upon completion of the initial Artillery fire mission into grid BS735597, the 2nd Platoon moved back into the contact area to check it out. At BS741591 the received small arms from their Northwest vicinity BS738598. Call for more Artillery with Darkness and possible Booby-Trap will wait till morning to sweep area. In the morning the 3rd Platoon will sweep south into the contact area and 2 Platoon will sweep north into the contact area. PFC ROBERT LAWRENCE BLACKWELL LISTED AS KHA at 1440hrs was evac to GRP COD complete damage of all limbs. Delta Company reports that PFC Charles W. La Flame at 1440hrs as evac to the 91st Evac Hospital with MFW to head, chest and both arms.

 

Echo Company
December 1, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon will continue their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry and LZ Liz.
