Headquarters and Headquarter Company
August 1, 1968
Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0500hrs Late Entry: Flare Ship & Sharks, Vicinity Beach between BS845815 to BS833437, observed 18-20 personnel asleep on beach, observer many lights and what appeared to be hand held candles and all hootches in area appeared to be illuminated from the inside. Also many personnel appeared to be moving about in area however didn’t have any action, Major Ward talked with District Chief t determine if any type village celebration was schedules for Beach area. MACV Major Ward stated that there should not be activity in area and that we were cleared with District Chief to take any action we feel is necessary. All activity were discontinued about 2335hrs, Coast Guard and Flare Ships will re check area at 01330hrs.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. PFC Steven D. Johnson was evac to 6th Convalescent Hospital.
Alpha Company
August 1, 1968
Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 1155hrs Alpha Company is located at BS909283. At 1400hrs Alpha Company reports their location at BS905284. At 1905hrs Alpha Company at BS788398 with 4 VCS CIA, 2 M-26 grenades, a GI belt, GI flashlight with red filter. Check 1 tunnel with negative result, 2 ½ meters by 20’ long. At 1930hrs Alpha Company at LZ Thunder reported 1 US stepped on a mine behind the mess hall the Dust Off by Command and Control Helicopter at 1930hrs. At 2107hrs Alpha Company to Charlie Company, at BS879309 made contact with 10 VC while moving south along Red Ball received automatic weapons and small arms fire. Alpha Company returned fire and put 81 HE and 81mm illumination flares, scrambled sharks and conducted a search with negative results, 31 ambushes is at BS879308. SP4 Harold F Munn JR is evac to 2nd Surgical Hospital with frag at 2000hrs.
Bravo Company
August 1, 1968
At 1155hrs Bravo Company working in the BA To, Area of Operation in Support of the Special Forces Camp at BA TO. At 2100hrs Bravo Company 10 ambush at BS578316, Command Post, 30 at BS625294 and the 20 and the 40 element no change. At 2115hrs Bravo Company 6 element need C Rations they requested 3 days ago, also they need water out of it and they need long bases for PRC 25’.
Charlie Company

At 0855hrs Charlie Company is receiving a few rounds of small arms fire from vicinity of PF location negative casualties, request MACV be notified. At 0906hrs Charlie Company at BS774373 found 1 box of 8 rounds 7.62 ammo, 8 rounds 45cal ammo and hidden in a hedgerow. At 0945hrs at BS775373 Charlie Company found 7 rounds of 30cal ammo and a rice ration destroyed. At 1155hrs Charlie Company reports their location at BS773367. At 1400hrs Charlie Company reports their location at BS774373. Charlie Company established their Night Defense Position with 2 ambushes out tonight.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown and Bridge Security.
Echo Company
August 1, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. At 1155hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at reports their location at Special Force Camp at Ba To.
