Headquarters and Headquarter Company
April 1, 1970

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0345hrs Bravo (-) 1-82 Artillery at LZ Snoopy at 0318hrs received 3 60mm mortar rounds with results 1 US WIA (M) with minor damage to commo wire around perimeter. At 0800hrs Bravo Batter 1-82 Artillery reports treaded at Battalion Aid Station Hebb, Stephen M. PFC FW hip and Thomas, Barney R. Jr. SP4 was tread at D 23 Medical with FW above left ear. At 1010hrs 1-20 Infantry the Battalion Commander left LZ Liz and returned at 1146hrs. At 1100hrs Dolphin 16 picked up 1 Vietnamese male approximately 18 years of age at BS758391 and was wearing light colored shirt and shorts. The Detainee had an ID and was turned in to the Bud Pad. At 1305hrs Helix 01 is putting in an Air Strike at BS750390. At 1430hrs The Battalion Commander left LZ Liz and returned at 1645hrs. At 1550hrs 1-20 Infantry Battalion Commander spotted a VC running into a bunker. He had a weapon and was engaged with M-60 and artillery was called in on BS812444. Two air ships loads of Bravo Company were called in along with sharks. At 1620hrs 8" destroy Mission was called in.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0345hrs 11 Brigade TOC at LZ Bronco reports at 0200hrs to 0210hrs reports Bunker #8 on northeast side of perimeter received RPG rounds, chi Com Hand grenades, small arms fire and satchel charger, with results 11 US WIA, 2 105 howitzers where damaged with one will not operated one is repairable and 3 with minor damage. 1 sleeping building destroy with 1 damaged, also 1 US KIA, all casually were Artillery personnel. Charlie Battery 6-11 Artillery Reports Treated at Bravo 23 Medical Twitchell Rodney L SSGT FW both legs, chest and both arms, McVey, Stanley B. SP4 abrasions hand, McCleandon, Robert W. PFC FW both legs, chest and right arms, Kennedy, William N. SP4 FW left arm and both legs, Fraley Douglas D PFC FW both legs and Buttocks, Alfano, Louis A. CPL FW back and both legs with left arm, Mc Corkie, Wilson PFC FW right leg and Jantch, Edward F. PVT. 6-11 Artillery Battalion Aid Station treated Pellridge David D. SGT FW right leg, Dancy Roger B. large cut to left hand, Dodt Daniel W. SGT cut both legs, Owens Windell B. PFC abrasions both arms and legs, Overbeck, Steven P. CPL lacerations to Nose, Howard William H. SP5 abrasions both knees and hands, Rehnett Elmer D. CPL cut to right foot, Gamble Donald SP4 abrasion both hands and both arms, Carter Virlyn SSGT FW right shoulder. 6-11 Artillery reports evac to 91 Evac, Tevis, Phillip F. SP4 FW head and left arm (SMITE) and 95 Evac, Buckingham, Kenneth R. SP4 FW face and neck, Meyer, David W. SP4 FW right leg, both hands and head. and evac to Duc Pho GRP MARTER EZRA G SGT punch to Ether Charlie Battery LISTED SGT EZRA G. MARTER AS KIA FOR THE DAY.

 

Alpha Company
April 1, 1970

Alpha Company continued to use Saturation patrolling and using Day Logger position as they conduct their Search and Clear operations in their Area of Operation. At 200hrs Alpha Company 43 and 63 elements has closed on BS774359. We are moving to our Night Defense Position at BS756374. The 03 element are a stay behind ambush at BS774359. Alpha Company will again use multiple ambushes out.

 

Bravo Company
April 1, 1970

At 0235hrs Bravo Company the 42 element received 5 magazines of small arms fire from their south about 300 meters away. We engaged with small arms, 81mm grid BS770436, with negative casualties or damage and negative finding. At 0655hrs the 43 element swept the area of ambush and found 2 VC/NVA KIA, well fed and about 25 to 30 years old. Also one was wearing light blue shirt and shorts and the other dark blue shorts with OD T shirt. The 43 element also found 2 pistol belts one US frag, 3 M-16 magazines and an AK 47 magazine at grid BS792430. At 0820hrs Bravo Company we request an urgent Dust Off for one Vietnamese female, approximately 21, and one Vietnamese child approximately 2 with frag wounds of the head. It is unknown were received, completed at 0832hrs. The 63 element will provide security for engineers. At 0926hrs a Vietnamese boy showed the 81 element where 3 booby traps were, at grid BS784432, 2 105mm round, command detonated and one hand frag with trip wire were blown in place. Bravo Company the 66 element picked up 3 Vietnamese male ages 20, 30, and 42 at BS806392 two ID looked false, sent to Military Intelligence. The 03 element closed on BS792430 where they found one AK 47 magazine and one scarf covered with blood. At 1550hrs the Battalion Commander spotted a VC running into a bunker and he had a weapon and was engaged with M-60, Artillery was called in on BS812444. Two helicopter loads of Charlie Company were called in along with sharks. At 1620hrs 8" destroy mission was call in on location. Bravo Company the 46 element is moving to BS815401and at 1623hrs Bravo Company 45 element has one KIA male, 30 to 35 years old. He was evading from our element at 300 meters and wearing a purple top and black bottom and he had no ID grid BS760458, no weapon or pack. The 46 element at 1732hrs pick up 1 female detainee with 2 set of clothes on and no ID. At 2315hrs Bravo Company the PF 184 Platoon sprung their ambush on (6 to 7 VC/NVA) moving west to east at 100 meters to their north and checking area now BS804396 with negative finding.

 

Charlie Company
April 1, 1970

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1903hrs the 66 element is moving to BS768412 and is in place by 2020hrs. At 1928 the 43 element is roving on the access road in place at 1950hrs.

 

Delta Company
April 1, 1970

At 0715hrs Delta Company closed on their Day Logger at BS724427, and started their saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. 1920hrs Delta Company set up their Night Defense Position at BS718428 and all snakes are in position. At 1920hrs Delta Company reports their Night Defense snakes are all in position 01 at BS729453, 02 at BS730446, 03 at BS730437, 42 at BS730461, 43 at BS731426 and the 44 is at BS730420. Also the following snakes are in location 62 at BS733414, 63 at BS735410 and the 64 element at BS744411.

 

Echo Company
April 1, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0615hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Fires 8, Observed Mission 1, Unobserved Missions 4 and Defense Targets 1 for a total expended of 31 HE, 54 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz.
