Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0115hrs E Troop 1-1 Calvary reports their location at BS701525. At 0303hrs TMF at 0245hrs S72B, 3 packs sighted moving east to west at 2 miles per hour metal confirmation, and engaged with 16 HE VT rounds 105 Artillery. At 0630hrs Brigade S-2 does not want 2 males from Alpha Company to be evac. At 0915hrs E Troop found 1 Dud 155 round and blew it in place at BS724495. At 0930hrs E Troop released from OPCON 1-20 Infantry and departed. At 0945hrs S-3 1-20 Infantry requests Area of Operation extension of B-106 Date/Time/Grid 191800hrs to 242400hrs September 1970 BS640572 to BS640590 to BS680590 to BS680586. Purpose Combat Operations staring 2000hrs, approved 191500hrs by Brigade S-3. At 1345hr Brigade Message from Major Brown Nghia Hahn will take care of the refugee problem, also a message from the same Advisor at LZ Dragon will not be able to get hold of ARVN Company until 1500hrs. At 1520rhs 1-20 Infantry called to Brigade IPW debriefing, #1. NVA came through area 5-7 days ago with individual weapons and mortars, #2. Hamlet guerrillas are still in the area. #3.the NVA is collecting rice on 16 September at BS672568, #4. Groups of 5 and 6 NVA used area nightly for east to west movement, #5. Nights of 16 to 18 NVA dug up rice and moved it out of the area, #6. 150 Civilians want to be evacuated out of the area have state if they walk to highway 1 the VC will kill them, #7. Civilians stated they are afraid of NVA in the area, and US Artillery and Air Strikes, #8. All units mentioned by civilians were 83 Local Force Battalion and #9. Hamlet in vicinity has been picked clean of food. At 1600hrs Brigade S-3 Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary is ETA to LZ Dragon between 1000hrs to 1030hrs, request 1-20 Infantry to meet the Troop at LZ Dragon to guide Troop in the Area of Operation. At 1840hrs Brigade: Spot report from 2 ARVN Division at 1730hrs 2 GI captured by 5 NVA vicinity BS722610, Blue Ghost on the way. Unit to conduct a muster Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo Companies, Headquarters Personnel, TOC, SOP and NOP and 4.2 Relay on LZ Snoopy and all elements present in the area. At 1800hrs Blue Ghost on Station. At 2015hrs Brigade there is no LOH available for a Combat Assault. At 2130hrs 1-20 Infantry Commander with AMC departed for Combat Assault. At 2155hrs TMF S68C at BS7445997, 4-5 personnel stationary and engaged with 9 rounds of HE Artillery is completed at 2200hrs with unknown results. At 2150hrs 1-20 Infantry Operation is cancelled due to Recommendation of AMC and decision of Ground Commander (Weather is socked in, too risky to insert troops), Battalion Commander returned to LZ Liz. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
September 19, 1970
At 0800hrs Alpha Company has moved into their Day Logger Position and resupply location BS666575. At 0911 Alpha Company 34 element while pursuing 1 Vietnamese male, was taken under fire by 3 packs in green uniforms at distance of 20 meters. The enemy fired 20 rounds semi automatic fire wounding the point man. The 34 element returned fire and maneuvered to the wounded point man upon their arrival in the contact area, they discovered the point mans M16A1 is missing and believe to have been captured, Dust Off completed at 0945hrs. At 1045hrs Alpha Company 54 continuing sweep with the 100 refugees and the 86 element sweeping with 50 detainees, 34 is in contact. Alpha Company 86 take some sniper fire, and Alpha Company at BS673584, 34 spotted 3 packs crossing river in our Area of Operation did not follow at BS670580, 34 did engaged 1 pack in green and yellow uniform, looks like may have got him, checking area now. At 1610hrs Alpha Company reports Refugees with be escort moving to Highway1. Alpha Company 34 element sweeping area of contact found a blood trail, also have CIA, AK 47 with folding stock, 1 clip, 34 element has 1 NVA WIA multiple bullet wounds to the legs, BS670580 NVA died at 1650hrs got negative info from NVA before he died. Alpha Company has multiple ambushes in BS662576 area. SGT John W. Putman was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital with gunshot wound left shoulder.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their patrols in their Area of Operation. Combat Assault was cancelled Due to weather is socked in too risky to insert troops. At 2240hrs Bravo Company reports their locations 88 is at BS722634 and 36 is at BS710588.
Charlie Company
September 19, 1970
At 0740hrs Charlie Company 88 element is moving out for BS728434, 86 and 57 closed on BS726440 and BS727411. At 0825hrs Charlie Company 88 element us moving out to BS728434, the 84 element in Day Logger at BS722427, 54 element in Day Logger at BS726416 and the 34 element closed on Command Post at BS722427. At 1125hrs Charlie Company at BS725411 54 element found 2 5 gallons cans of polished rice, 2 pounds of tobacco, tobacco was destroyed, looked as it was a pick up point.
Delta Company

At 0555hrs Delta Company 84 element is moving to BS755568, the 85 element moving to BS756565 and the 86 element is moving to BS758559. Delta Company today will use Multiply Day Ambushes and some patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0645hrs Delta Company Day Ambushes are in location at 34 at BS767546, 35 at BS769542, 84 at BS755568, 85 at BS756565, 86 at BS758565 and 86 at BS758599. Also Delta Company will have Day Ambushes 55 at BS759585, 57 at BS757588 and 58 at BS765590. At 1950hrs Delta Company set up night ambushes 55 BS766584, 58 BS772586, 57 BS764588, 34 BS772546, 35 BS774543, 12/02 BS764565, 84 BS756570, 85 BS758564 and 86 BS761559. Delta Company continued to conduct multiple patrolling and day ambushes in their Area of Operation.
Echo Company
September 19, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0615hrs Recon Platoon is leaving their Night Defense Position and returning to LZ Liz. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-2 Infantry. Echo Company reports PFC Jesse Wade was attached to the 95th Evac Hospital (11C10).
