Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1030hrs Brigade briefing of representatives from G-2 will be given at Brigade Conference room at 1600hrs 23 October 1970, Subject Infrastructure of VCI, Battalion Commander and S-2 are to attend. Brigade S-3 Air has been asked to provide transportation following briefing on VCI, Division SSO will brief on classified Intelligence Report. At 1315hrs S-2 Mine sweep people at BS695600 with the radar people, and provisional security platoon. At 1336hrs Brigade clarification of vehicle movement along highway 1 received from CPT Fletcher, Brigade TOC, vehicles are not required to travel in pairs along highway 1, except during inclement weather. However passengers in vehicles will wear protective vests, steel pots, and carry their individual weapon. This clarification of the previous policy has been coordinated with the Military Police and the Division. At 1520hrs 1-20 Infantry, Area of Operation B 72 Date/Time/Grid extended to 222400hrs October 1970 approved by CPT Parker. At 2020hrs Radar on Nui Voung, have at BS681605, 5 to 6 personnel moving south, negative clearance proximity friendly. Legend 1st Platoon 03-08, 2nd Platoon 53-58, 3rd Platoon 83-88, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 43.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1400hrs S-4 11 the resupply ship is on station.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1920hrs Alpha Company is in their locations 53 in Night Defense Position at BS756551, 56 Rat Patrol going to BS754551, 83 at BS762555, 55 at BS756543, the 05 element at BS754554, and the 03 element at BS755555.
Bravo Company

At 1045hrs Bravo Company 03 element found 1,000 pounds of rice in a bin, unpolished in good condition 700 pounds of rice was in 100 pound bags from the last harvest, will bag for extraction to MACV Mo Duc. And 4 of the bags were US bags with Vietnamese and English US Bag Connellis Rice Xtra Longgrain, Connel Rice and Sugar ETC Houston, Texas. Bravo Company extracted at total of 11,200 pounds of Rice for the Day. At 2100hrs Bravo Company 03 element at BS733583 received 3 snipers rounds are requesting Artillery Ill and HE rounds fired at 2115hrs saw lights about 100 meters away, the lights completely surrounding the element. At 2130hrs the lights had moved away from the perimeter, element did not engaged with small arms fire but M-79 fire and will check in morning. At 2307hrs Bravo Company element saw light about 50 meters northwest of their position, opened fire with small arms fire and claymores. Lights evaded into hedgerow, one looked like he went into a bunker, checked it out with negative findings, and by 2333hrs was back into ambush location.

Delta Company
October 19, 1970
Delta Company using patrolling in Area of Operation at 0630hrs Delta Company the 03 element is moving to BS726595, the 83 element moving out to BS726618 and the 06 element closed on BS722598. At 0812hrs Delta Company the 85 element moving to BS720618 and the 05 element is at checkpoint 2 at BS730605. At 0930hrs the 03 element took 3-5 sniper founds from 500 meters. Calling in Artillery at this time, and at 1050hrs the 07 element will move through area after Artillery fired finished checking it out. At 1200hrs Delta Company the 87 element detained 1 male age 17-18, negative ID detained at BS719609, will evacuate to Brigade Military Intelligence. At 1410hrs Delta Company reports the 86 element is at checkpoint 2 at BS727626, the 06 element has closed on BS726618 and the 85 element is at checkpoint 1 at BS721621. At 1841hrs Delta Company the 03 element taking sniper fire into their Day Logger at BS726595, 3 weapons firing semi-automatic fire approximately 6-10 rounds 600 meters to their southeast at BS727604. Firing Artillery will check in am. At 1845hrs Delta Company reports 06 BS726618, 85-86 BS726595 and 05 BS722601.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0645hrs Recon Platoon the 05 element in Daytime location at BS716427, Recon the 03 element is moving to LZ Liz. At 1440hrs Recon element at BS719437, position was compromised by some Vietnamese children that stumbled onto their location, they scared them off. They received instructions to move in the opposite direction from which the children were chased, and return and ambush their present location as well as the body they killed yesterday. At 1810hrs Recon Platoon 05 element has closed on LZ Liz.
