Headquarters and Headquarter Company
November 19, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Cork and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations in OPERATION VERNON LAKE II. At 0925hrs 1-20 Infantry informed the Combat Assault for 20 November has been cancelled Operation with possible be conducted as a raid by 1 company of 4-21 Infantry confirmation to be passed by 1400hrs. At 1305hrs Command and Control Helicopter 4-21 Infantry at BS393502 received ground fire with results shot down, 2 WIA (E) Dust Off is on the way. 1 Company Commander wounded Delta 4-21 Infantry and 1 door gunner WHA 174 Aviation. Aircraft secured by ARVN Recon Company. Crew will go out to extract aircraft at 1600hrs Dust Off and Aircraft is extracted. Battalion Company 4-21 Infantry was on board and he was not WHA. At 2310hrs Recon Platoon reports their Night Defense Position at BS445583.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0145hrs LZ Bronco received reports that movement was heard in approximately Bunker 41 possibly VC cutting wire, request artillery and 81mm mortar fire. Artillery fired first round at 0225hrs with unknown assessment. At 0815hrs Bravo Company 39 Engineer at BS629828 culvert blown, road is passable. At 0830hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS718594 received 8 rounds of sniper with negative casualties returned fire and continued mine sweep. At 0830hrs Delta Company 19 Engineer at BS840330 detained 1 VCS evading and evac to LZ Thunder. At 0940hrs Bravo Company 39 Engineer Vietnamese Lambertta detonated mine with results 3 Vietnamese KIA and 4 Vietnamese WIA (E) and passed to MACV.

 

Alpha Company
November 19, 1968

Alpha Company continued to Search and Sweep operations in their Area of Operation, located at BS455586. Alpha Company Night Defense Position will be at BS456583 with ambush locations the 173-BS453585, the 163 at BS453587 and the 103 at BS455587.

 

Bravo Company
November 19, 1968

Throughout the day Bravo Company found and searched a hospital complex and found surgical and medical supplies, location BS449571. Bravo Company reports a complete list of items 17 bottles of plasma, small amount sterile water, Czech microscope, large quantity, of surgical equipment, medicine, cotton balls, l sterilize 5 gal. Capacity, small amounts of other devices, large amount of penicillin, large amount of medicine, many surgical gowns, lots of needles and syringes, all evac. Bravo Company continued to Search and Clear of the area.

 

Charlie Company
November 19, 1968

Charlie Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Cork.

 

Delta Company
November 19, 1968

At 1240hrs Delta Company reports their locations D 163 at BS416583, Command Post at BS413587 and 103 at BS402581. Delta Company at 1325hrs at BS412588 found Battalion size base camp, with manholes, looks like POW camp, may have been. At 2310hrs Delta Company reports their Night Defense Position 133-BS419384, 163-BS416583, Common Post 173-BS413587 and 103-BS422581.

 

Echo Company
November 19, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Cork where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Cork. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Cork where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 0930hrs Recon Platoon at BS444588 found 1 hut and lock on door, 2 tunnels, 1 had nothing, other found 4 Chi Com hand grenades. At 1102hrs Recon Platoon at BS456584 found trail with boot tracks looks like MVA boots, also found water buffalo tracks, and fenced area, like corral. At 1240hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS446580. At 1300hrs Recon reports at BS445583 found base camp, 4 prints Ho Chi Minh Posters, 100 US Sheets, 60 combat packs, 4 hammocks, 84 spool tread, 94 surgical masks also 9 surgical gowns, 4 Chi Com grenades, 248 black uniforms, 29 nurse uniforms complete, 23 bras, 100 mosquito nets, 4 cots and 4 sets wool under wear, 12 heavy wool trousers and last 25 blue sweat shirts.
