Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0515hrs LZ Liz Bunker Line Inspection: Bunkers #14, 15, 16, 17 inspected all but 17 had guards, no one awake, for the 4 people no one in charge, once awake they knew primary and alternate passwords as did the other bunkers. At 1525hrs Hornet 425 is on station at this time. At 1550hrs Helix 36 is on station at this time. At 1620hrs TO Alpha Company from 1-20 Infantry S-3 Conduct localized patrols 20 May using Night Defense Position as Patrol base, X move present position South then east of home base. X arrives no earlier than 1000hrs, X conduct a sweep along route, repeat sweep! X circus will be ready. At 1638hrs Helix 36 is breaking station at this time. TO Brigade S-3 FROM 1-20 Infantry S-3, has requested 1 bull dozer for 20 May for 1 day’s work, please confirm. At 1831hrs TO Recon FROM 1-20 Infantry S-3 move along riverbank north side of Song Tra Ca River, conduct a sweep not a walk. Alpha Company element (center of mass BS7441) will be south of river. They will move south then east of home base. Delta Company element will arrive, no earlier then 1000hrs. Bravo Company moved 1 click north of you to west. At 1943hrs TO Brigade S-3 FROM 1-20 Infantry S-3: 1. Request confirmation on dossier for 20 May. 2. Request to know when Engineers will return to aid in repair and reconstruction of Fire Support Base Liz Company Command Post. 3. Understand Engineer to return to Liz with water tank for Mess Hall. Is this true, when will they return? At 1950hrs 1-20 Infantry South OP at 1915hrs had an unknown type of explosion approximately 50 to 75 meters to the east of their perimeter vicinity BS775421. After an investigation the type of detonation could not be determined. At 2030hrs MACV Duc Pho at reports 191445 at BS845304, BS847302 and BS845298 are enemy locations. RF 103 engaged enemy force estimated Platoon with results 1 RF KIA and 2 RF WIA engaged with small arms fire and Artillery 155mm along with Gun Ships. At 2031hrs TMF String 61 Target B have 3 packs moving northwest at 3 miles per hour, metal confirmation, engaged at 2040hrs with 10 HE VT Artillery 105mm. At 2041hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes out: Alpha 9, Charlie 3, Delta 5, and Recon 1 for a total of 18 out. At 2120hrs TMF Sting 61 reports Target B metal confirmation, engaged at 2122hrs with 10 HE VT Artillery 105mm. At 2230hrs LZ Liz Bunker line inspected: Inspected Bunkers #6, 7, 8, 9 all bunkers had good commo, Bunker 6 had no personnel on guard, 1 man was asleep on top of the bunker. The other 2 men were behind the bunker. Bunker 7 was in good shape. Bunker 8 did not challenge, personnel did know the primary password, but no the secondary password. Bunker 9 challenged at the right time, the inspector responded with the correct password, the inspector was then told to advance 10 paces, place his ID card on the ground and then back up, he was also told that he wad cover wit a buck shot round. At that time the senior man on the bunker took charge and the inspector was allowed to advance. The inspector believes the bunker had prior knowledge of the inspection and 1 individual decided to clown around. All Bunkers had at least 4 claymores, 1 foogas and a large number of trip flares deployed. Legend: 1st Platoon 34, 2nd Platoon 05, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 78, CO-07.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1013hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon and 2nd Platoon is at checkpoint 2, vicinity BS735418 and the 1st Platoon Patrol is at BS741433. At 2000hrs Alpha Company elements in their Night Defense Position locations Command Post, 1st and 4th Platoons at BS796415, 1st and 2nd Platoons at BS731425.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz at 0515hrs Bunker line inspection Bunker 17 all asleep otherwise satisfactory. At 2230hrs LZ Liz Bunker line inspection is completed satisfactory. At 2251hrs LZ Liz Practice Alert, Bravo Company 100%, all Artillery 100%, Reaction force 100% 2254hrs, 2310hrs reaction force in location alternate Command Post, Artillery alert at 2259 had 100%.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0730hrs Charlie Company has a patrol moving out to set up OP at BS677539. At 2017hrs Charlie Company Command Post, 2nd Platoon Night Defense Position, 1st Platoon at BS676542 with 3 Mechanical Ambush out.
Delta Company

Delta Company used Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0630hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is moving out to Patrol Base vicinity BS703501. At 0635hrs Delta Company Command Post, 3rd, and 4th Platoons is moving their Patrol base at BS703503 and the 2nd Platoon closed on their Patrol Base at BS728485 at 0641hrs. At 1953hrs Delta Company all elements in their Night Defense Position 1st Platoon at BS705510, Command Post, 3rd and 4th Platoon at BS718506, 2nd Platoon at BS727487 with 5 Mechanical Ambush out.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion.
