Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Ross for Operation WHEELER-WALLOWA and are OPCON to the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. At 0840hrs Alpha Company 4-21 Infantry in vicinity AT992318 found a booby trap 15 meters off trail, camouflaged with rice straw, a 105mm round with trip wire, troops were sweeping area from 5 to 30 meters apart, no warning device or markings, wore no body armor, no villagers near and destroyed in place. At 1121hrs LZ Ross vicinity BT027342 1000hrs to 1600hrs civilians brought in the morning 11 81mm duds, 1 round 60mm, 3 rounds 81mm Illumination duds rounds paid 1,300 piasters for rounds. In afternoon 7 rounds 81mm duds, 2 105mm dud, and 3 hand grenades they paid 1, 900 piasters all rounds were destroyed. At 1139hrs National Police Qui Son advised that road sweep team there is a VC Ambush and 2 Command detonated mines at BT070375.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company has the Security Mission for LZ Ross. At 1530hrs Convoy departed LZ Baldy for LZ Ross. At 1542hrs Convoy to LZ Ross is at Checkpoint F and close on LZ Ross at 1612hrs total of 47 Vehicles and at 1736hrs Convoy left LZ Ross at 1730hrs At 1725hrs Alpha Company reports Mine sweep team at from LZ Ross BS078386 at 1430hrs found a Helite type mine detonating on the shoulder of road, blown in place leaving crater 8’ X 3’. At 1848hrs Alpha Company at BT0823390 at 1741hrs observed 3 VC moving toward their location and engaged with small arms fire, results 1 KIA with no ID, weapons or documents and other 2 evaded to the northeast. PF said his mother and father are also VC.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Ryder and will be conducting local Security Patrols in their Area of Operation.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company remains OPCON to the 1-6 Infantry and their location remain at BT057270 with OP and security sweeps of the area.
Delta Company
May 19, 1968
Delta Company conducts a Search and Destroy Operation from BT008357 to BT0988355 and at 1610hrs conducts a Combat Assault movement with our Hot Meal to LZ Cacti (BT058470) and OPCON to the 1-52 Infantry and arrived at 1830hrs for Operation Allen Brock.
Echo Company

Echo Company is located at LZ Ross where Battalion Forward, is located and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and the Base Defense on LZ Ross. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Ross where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. 1-20 Infantry Recon Platoon manned OP Tiger, Cobra and Dragon. At 1827hrs Recon Platoon reports at AT987372 Command and Control Helicopter ship received 12 rounds of small arms fire from above grid with negative hits and fired artillery. Echo Company reports SP4 John S. Boyce was attached to the 106th General Hospital.
