Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0005hrs LZ Liz IOS sighted 1 stationary light at grid BS787488, negative clearance and at 0305hrs Radar sighted 8 to 10 stationary personnel at grid BS790470 and engaged the target with artillery 105mm. At 1004hrs IOS sighted 8 to 10 personnel at grid 762385 negative clearance due to friendly. Also 1-20 Infantry reports a Routine Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese female with frag wounds to the back and legs. It is unknown how she received these wounds completed at 1341hrs. At 1115hrs Helix (FAC) 37 we have 1 male who is building a hootch at BS767517. At 1530hrs Division Commander arrived at LZ Liz and was briefed by the Battalion Commander and left at 1540hrs. At 1600hrs 1-20 Infantry the Battalion Commander left Liz on a Visual Recon and returned at 1630hrs. At 1940hrs Radar we spotted 4 to 6 personnel at grid 724431. We fired Artillery 105mm at the target.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1250hrs 1-20 Infantry Lot number LS 42-17 of 81mm mortar ammo is a bad lot.
Alpha Company
January 19, 1970
Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0705hrs Alpha Company reports 53 element has closed on LZ Liz. At 0820hrs 1-20 Infantry all Commanders of all companies will be picked up between the hour of 1000hrs and 1200hrs and brought to this location. At 0841hrs Alpha Company reports all snakes have closed on LZ Liz. At 0805hrs Brigade Intelligence report: there is an arms cache in the vicinity of grid BS790460. It contains 400 rounds of 82mm, 120 rounds of 90mm recoilless, 1 million rounds of AK47 and 3,000 hand grenades. The source of information is from a PW in the II Corps from the 22 Regiment. At 1805hrs Alpha Company the 94 snake has move out for BS736435, the 85 snake to 768440 and the 55 snake to BS773443. At 1940hrs Alpha Company reports snakes are in location and the 86 snake (SRRP) is at checkpoint 1 at BS745443 and closed on location at 1945hrs.
Bravo Company
January 19, 1970
At 0600hrs Bravo Company the 91 and 92 elements is moving to BS790444. At 0705hrs Bravo reports 55 closing on BS787429, 56 on BS789417 and 53 has closed on LZ Liz. At 0825hrs Bravo Company the 86 has closed on the Twin Ville and at 0900hrs 91 and 92 has closed on BS783433. At 1140hrs Bravo Company the 55 element along with the PF picked up 3 females detainees, ages 35, 20, 30 and they were all dressed in black pants and blue top, with no ID. We are bringing these detainees along with their 4 babies back to Command Post at BS783433. We are also leaving a stay behind element at BS724416. At 1150hrs Bravo Company the 55 element will have a daytime ambush at BS777421 for 3 to 4 hours. At 1350hrs Bravo Company the stay behind ambush had picked up 4 Vietnamese detainees, one female was about 35 years old, the others range 20-30 years of age. All wearing all black Pajamas, the PF they are VC and will be handled over to MACV. At 1600hrs the 51 element has closed on their semi permanent position. At 2345hrs Bravo Company we received 4 sniper rounds from our southwest we returned fire with M79 and small arms, negative casualties at grid BS783433.
Charlie Company
January 19, 1970
At 0722hrs Charlie Company all snakes have closed on BS717461. At 0916hrs Charlie Company the 51 element is moving to BS718463. At 1105hrs Charlie Company the 51 is at grid BS718458 and found an unknown type of mine, we will bring it back to the Command Post with them. At 1151hrs Charlie Company the 81 element is at grid BS711458. At 1500hrs Charlie Company our Night Defense Position for the 81 element is at BS714464. The Night Defense Position for the 51 element is at BS717466. Charlie Company reports their locations the 55 snake is at BS719461 and the 83 snake is at BS713455. At 1655hrs Charlie Company is at grid BS772527 a bull dossier hit a bobby trap of an unknown type. It was a concussion type with a blast about the size of a 105 round, with negative casualties. At 1701hrs Charlie Company the 81 and 51 elements have closed on BS714464 and BS717466 respectively and at 1715hrs Charlie Company the 55 snake is at BS719461 and at 1946hrs 83 snake is at BS713455.
Delta Company

At 0658hrs Delta Company the 81 element is moving out to the area of contact at grid BS729448, we found two sacks of clothing and material. The clothing was made for children and there was also some fresh meat and dehydrated milk. We found two blood trails, but we were unable to continue to follow it. At 0823hrs 1-20 Infantry to Delta Company due to the radar sighting at the following grids we request your 81 elements set up snake in the vicinity of these sighting, BS739468 (moved north), BS739469 (target moved northeast) and BS748458 (moved south). The Area of Operation extension to the west of your location is no longer effective. At 0935hrs Delta Company plans the 81 element Day Logger will be at BS730442 and our Night Defense Position is at BS748458. The 82 element Day Logger is at BS729454 and the Night Defense Position is at BS739459. The 83 element Day Logger is at BS727456 and the Night Defense Position is at BS739458. At 0935hrs 1-20 Infantry we request an Area of Operation extension from BS7047 to BS6847 to BS6745 to BS7045 for the period of DATE/TIME 200600hrs to 230600hrs. At 0940hrs 1-20 Infantry tomorrow your 81 element will be moved to an LZ at your location. Tomorrow select a Day Logger for your 91 element in the area of BS762397 to BS791382, select your Day Logger in area of BS7536, BS758370, BS775378 and BS772348. At 1050hrs Delta Company we found a tunnel at grid BS752377. The entrance is 3.5’ high and 3 3/2 ‘ wide in approximately 10 meters and branches off left and right with each branch about 20 meters long and need engineers to blow the tunnel. At 1101hrs Delta Company the 91 element is at the Day Logger at BS759393. At 1256hrs Delta Company the 91 element Night Defense Position is at BS759393 and the 93 snake is at BS768388. At 1725hrs Delta Company the 83 element snake is at BS735452 and at 1735hrs the 51, 01 and 79 elements are moving to BS753372. At 1920hrs Delta Company we are in our Night Defense Position at BS756374 with 81 Night Defense Position at BS748458. At 1925hrs Delta Company the 82 and 83 snakes are at BS739459 and BS735452 respectively. At 1948hrs Delta Company reports 93 snake is at BS768388 and the 53 snake is at BS745370. At 1955hrs Delta Company requests Urgent Dust Off for one US with severe burns of the hand resulting from a trip flare grid BS748458 completed at 2002hrs. At 2015hrs Delta Company the 81 element will be moved on 20 January 1970 at 1200hrs and not at 0800hrs as previously planned. It will be all in 1 lift with 4 lift ships. Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0620hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Observed Mission 1 for a total expended 12 HE rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1000hrs Recon Little John is moving to grid BS785486 and then to grid BS784492 to check out the area. We have destroyed 3 gardens after the Little John element completed their Mission they will link up and move south to grid area into which we were Combat Assaulted. At 1220hrs Recon Platoon our present location is at BS793482. At 1457hrs our Night Defense Position will be at BS795471 and tomorrow we will work between BS795471 and BS793466. At 1700hrs Recon our Night Defense Position is at BS793478. At 1922hrs we are in or Night Defense Position at BS793478, today we destroyed 12 gardens and 2 bunkers.
