Headquarters and Headquarter Company
August 19, 1971

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0720hrs Resupply bird is on station call sign Hornet 36. At 0830hrs Access Road is clear and open. At 1130hrs Resupply bird 116 AHC broke station. At 1300hrs Convoy departed for Chu Lai 10 vehicles and 28 packs. At 1433hrs Inferno 59 B Company 123 Aviation is on station in Air Calvary Box 55. At 1435hrs CPT Radar observed 1 PFC from MACV Mo Duc on a routine liaison mission to LZ LIZ sniffing heroin. The individual was apprehended and informed of his rights by LTC Whitley. While being searched 9 additional vials were found. The EM was returned to Major Gregg District Senior Advisor Mo Duc for disciplinary action. At 1535hrs Bull Dossier while working at LZ Liz uncovered about 4,000 rounds of small arms ammo, M-14, 30 caliber and M-16 rounds were uncovered in grass area being used for fill. Request guidelines on further investigation, should it be destroyed or covered back up. At 1600hrs a team of Vietnamese seals and 2 US Marine Advisor’s observed 2 VC with packs moving south, when VC spotted seal team they dropped their packs and fled. Results were 2 packs CIA, 2 transistor radios and some documents also destroyed 1 VC mine. VC continued to evade south, southwest at grid BS823425. At 1700hrs Upright 560 (174 AHC is on Station) breaking station. At 1845hrs LZ Liz Access Road is closed. At 1956hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Field Strength Alpha 50, Charlie 50, Echo 12 and HHC 7. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.

 

Alpha Company
August 19, 1971

Alpha Company is on LZ Liz preparing for Move West and LZ Liz to be turn over to the ARVN.

 

Bravo Company
August 19, 1971

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1535hrs Bulldozer while working on LZ Liz uncovered about 400 rounds of small arms ammo, M-14 and M-16 rounds were uncovered in grass area being used for fill. Request guidance on further investigation and should it be destroyed or covered back up.

 

Charlie Company
August 19, 1971

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz with Security patrols around LZ Liz and Day and Night ambushes.

 

Delta Company
August 19, 1971

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and prepares to move north and turn over LZ Liz to the ARVN.

 

Echo Company
August 19, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
