Headquarters and Headquarter Company
August 19, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0036hrs E Troop on bridge 104 received incoming grenades 100 meters south. PF returned fire, negative casualties and negative assessment. At 1130hrs MACV at BS798376, engaged about Platoon size enemy unit, results 1 PF KIA, no report on enemy assessment. At 1930hrs MACV Duc Pho, information good source, 80 VC at BS803459, 1 VC camp, C-83 have 1 82mm mortar, 1 60mm mortar, 1 30 caliber, 3 bar’s moving to Duc Pho for attack. At 2000hrs MACV Duc Pho request grid BS886308 cleared for PF ambush up to 2400hrs, will use grid BS884288 as route of March. The (1-20 Infantry) TOC cleared requested grid BS886308 and BS884288. At 2205hrs MACV Duc Pho received information that the VC will be moving mortars along the coast East to West from grid 45-40, request the boat on station check it out.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
August 19, 1968

At 0852hrs Alpha Company at BS778173, requested EOD team found booby trap 105 round, illumination canister buried nose down into the ground except for 3", 3 bamboo sticks with wire wrapped around them. Had one trip wire also some unknown substance, notified EOD will be picked up by Command and Control Helicopter. EOD check booby trap and item was a 105mm round, which had been made into a cooking pot. At 1036hrs Alpha Company Night Defense Position is located at BS778382 with ambushes at BS780397, BS776392, BS769388, BS769373, BS774368 and BS783372.

 

Bravo Company
August 19, 1968

At 0630hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC called Dust Off for 1 man in Bravo Company, EM has temp 103, condition minor, Dust Off completed at 0705hrs. At 1036hrs Bravo Company is located at BS852302. At 1930hrs Bravo Company established their Night Defense Position at BS832293, with ambushes at BS812308, BS821317, BS828309, BS844297, BS834275, BS840274, and BS830301.

 

Charlie Company
August 19, 1968

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 0845hrs Charlie Company 11 is at BS849266. At 1553hrs Charlie Company 11 and 13 elements at LZ Thunder and at 1620hrs Charlie Company 31 is at BS873258 and 33 at BS805298. At 1815hrs Charlie Company at BS798294 are observing 20 VC with weapons in open are calling in Artillery and request gun ships. Charlie Company spotted 35 VC with weapons, packs and at least 2 radios dressed in black PJ called artillery, negative assessment. 60 minutes later Sharks observed 5 more VC in open wearing black, with weapons and packs and where moving north to south along trail. Sharks engaged with negative assessment. At 1930hrs Charlie Company (-) at LZ Thunder reports LP s at BS901203 ambushes at BS903200, BS932134 and BS928145 with 22 on Bridge 943.

 

Delta Company
August 19, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. At 1145hrs Delta Company at BS895194, found 5 hand made maps of Cambodian. Thailand, and Iran, India, it was found in roof of a hut. At 1930hrs Delta Company reports with LP at BS901203 will ambushes at BS903200, BS932134 and BS928145 with 22 is on bridge 94.

 

Echo Company
August 19, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 1115hrs Recon Platoon requested Dust Off for 1 US with temperature of 103, possible Malaria, at grid BS795700 completed at 1215hrs.
