Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0552hrs TMF S-74B 6 packs moving west to east at 3 miles per hours, metal confirmed and engaged at 0552hrs with 8 HE rounds 105 Artillery. At 0700 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 3 on station, Battalion Commander departing LZ Liz for Combat assault of Delta Company. At 0747hrs Combat Assault completed and ships released, Battalion Commander returned to LZ Liz in AMC, departed in Primo. At 0930hrs 1-20 Area of Operation B-62 request for extension to DATE/TIME 211200hrs October 1970 CPT Parker, Area of Operation B-71 for 4-21 Infantry from BS8036 east to highway 1 and south from BS8036 to BS800333 Date/Time/Grid to 191800hrs October 1970, approved by CPT Parker. At 0815hrs Sharks, upon completion of Delta Company Combat Assault, Shark 6 was heading south toward Fire Support Base Bronco when they spotted 5 male personnel, vicinity BS786503 evading into a bunker. 1 person was armed with a AK-47. Sharks engaged immediately and wound 1 of the males. The other 4 individuals enter a bunker. Battalion Commander requested immediate Combat Assault Alpha Company 83 and 43 elements and they where inserted at 0842hrs and LZ was hot. At 1520hrs 1-20 Infantry ship on station 1300hrs and off station at 1530hrs. At 1525hrs Brigade effective 19 October 1970 all pre planned all strikes must be submitted no later then 1500hrs. At 1540hrs Brigade Area of Operation Area of Operation extension Date/Time/Grid ASAP to 202400hrs to BS8033 along Area of Operation boundary to BS7835 to BS7235 to BS72450 to start # B72, approved by CPT Parker. At 2215hrs TMF at 2206hrs S-72B sighted stationary target with metal confirmed, negative clearance, proximity of friendly. Legend 1st Platoon 03-08, 2nd Platoon 53-58, 3rd Platoon 83-88, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 43.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company 53 element requests Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese female with malaria BS758553 completed at 1108hrs. At 1115hrs Alpha Company is sweeping the contact area found a hootch in a thicket, that looks like it slept 10 people last night found 155mm round laying outside, it was not a booby trapped, couldn’t blow it due to lack of explosive. At BS785505 found 2 155mm rounds lay beside bunker, not booby trap, not destroyed due to lack of explosives. Alpha Company detained 3 female on way to Night Defense Position and will back haul in morning. At 1945hrs Alpha Company is their locations 03 at BS752555, 55 at BS757553 and 05 at BS754557.
Bravo Company

At 1030hrs Bravo Company in their Day Logger at BS755570, the 06 element has moved out for BS728579, tonight the 06 ambush at BS743581, and the Bravo Company 03 element ambush at BS733583. At 1040hrs Bravo Company 03 element found 4 tons of rice and 50 25pound bags of salt. Rice in sandbags, and was brought in from other area. Kit Carson Scout says it maybe a VC pick up point. In the same area found 1 booby trap with pressure type device, destroyed in place. At 1200hrs Bravo Company 57 element detained 1 female 20-25, evading east, will send to Military Intelligence. At 1330hrs Bravo Company at BS755570 request a Routine Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese female, 45, who was shot in stomach 2 children brought in the female, have no knowledge of how females received wounds completed at 1420hrs. At 1605hrs Bravo Company 53 element request Urgent Dust Off for 1 US who hit a Booby trap at BS754572, the personnel received frag to the back and legs. The booby trap was a hand frag with pressure type device, on a trail, personnel Branham. At 1800hrs Bravo Company total rice extraction for the day reported at 4 ton of rice. PVT David W. Branham was evac to 91st Evac Hospital.
Charlie Company

Delta Company
October 18, 1970
At 0723hrs Delta Company conducts Combat Assault into 1 LZ Delta 03 to BS738633, 2 LZ Delta 53 at BS752622, 3 LZ Delta 83 at BS758615, while landing on their Land Zone 03 at BS759608 while landing detained 1 evading female age 18, dressed in black, negative ID. Evacuated to Liz and then to Brigade Military Intelligence. Detainee revealed to Battalion S-2 that she is a nurse, reported that there were 20 VC in the area of her capture. They evaded to a called the Market Place. Delta 03 the element Kit Carson Scout questioned civilians in the area as to the location of Market Place, but the civilians expressed negative knowledge of any such place. At 1200hrs Delta Company 57 element detained 1 female age 30-35, dressed in white and black, evading, Le Thi An at BS749617 has a phony ID. At 1215hrs Delta Company 53 had a detainee hit a booby trap while walking with element. Mackerel can, filled with Petna and trip wire, Booby trap buried under ground on trail requested a Priority Dust Off, multiple Frag Wounds, complete 1218hrs. At 1923hrs Delta Company reports their locations 43 BS744618, 83 BS728616, 03 BS724592 and 06 BS723595.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1305hrs Recon Platoon at BS712438 while moving into the 515 Valley, the Battalion Recon Platoon engaged 3 enemy personnel dressed in khaki uniforms at a distance of 200 meters. The Recon Platoon engaged them with small arms and M-79 fire. At the same time 2 other enemy personnel dressed in green evaded from a bunker 150 meters away, and fired AK at the element. Recon continued their assault killing 1 enemy in green uniform and capturing a rucksack with canteen, also documents and clothing. The clothing of the KIA is being brought back to Fire Support Base Liz along with the other captured items. 1 US was injured in the assault when he cut his hand on a piece of barbed wire. Snipers employed as stay behind ambush. Enemy evaded northwest into the mountains with results 1 enemy KIA also documents clothing and rucksack with 1 canteen CIA. At 1335hrs Recon Platoon at BS715438 requests routine Dust Off for 1 US who cut his hand on a piece of barb wire (Thomas Day) Dust Off completed at 1430hrs. At 1346hrs Recon present location at BS715429, ambush location for tonight BS726406, sniper team BS719438. At 1702hrs Recon Platoon 03 element stay behind location BS717430, ambush location at BS719437. At 1907hrs Recon Reports the 03 element in location at BS744413 and at 1952hrs Recon 05 element in location at BS719437.
