Headquarters and Headquarter Company
November 18, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Cork and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations in OPERATION VERNON LAKE II. Multiple Air Strikes on enemy position in Area of Operation today. At 1325hrs Aero Scouts for 18 November approved Afternoon Visual Recon 1300-1430 for 4-21 at LZ Amy BS732436 and 1500hrs to 1630hrs for 1-20 Infantry at LZ Cork.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0900hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS718594 found 15 pound mine with plunger type firing device, also found 1 booby trap hand grenade same location and destroy hand grenade and removed mine from road and continue Mine Sweep. At 0930hrs Bravo Company 39 Engineer reports culvert blown left crater 18’ by 12’ by 8’ road open with 1 lane. At 1045hrs LZ Bronco Mess hall burned down on top of Montezuma. SGT David Freed (11B40) was evac at 1445hrs sick to the 37th Surgical Hospital.

 

Alpha Company
November 18, 1968

Alpha Company at 0810hrs at BS448571 requests a Dust Off for 1 US WHA with frag wound right leg, shoulder was a booby trap hand grenade with trip wire, Dust Off was completed at 0908hrs. Alpha Company continued to search and sweep their Area of Operation. At 1810hrs Alpha Company set up their Defense Position at vicinity BS459576. SP4 William R. Saldana evac to 312 Evac Hospital at 0910hrs and SP4 Joseph Scott was evac to 312 Evac Hospital at 1400hrs also at SP4 Terry W. Yoder was attached to 27 Surgical Hospital Friar at 1910hrs.

 

Bravo Company
November 18, 1968

Bravo Company continued to use Search and Clear operations in their Area of Operation. 0928hrs Bravo Company found a chi com booby trap which they destroyed in place continue their operations they received sniper fire at 1109hrs found a hut complex containing a hospital and medical supplies. Later in the day Bravo Company at 1330hrs at BS449578 found hut complex 1 hospital, 751lb of gauze 20X50 ft size of hut. Also found 10-12 pounds of documents, looks like pay receipts, blood pressure gauge and 3 operating rooms and a new class room. At 1705hrs Bravo Company found 3 camouflaged huts full of NVA uniforms-equip, enough for 4-5 companies.

 

Charlie Company

Charlie Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Cork.

 

Delta Company
November 18, 1968

Delta Company reports their locations 133 BS427582, 162 BS416572, 103 BS421581, Command Post BS423581 locations at 1100hrs. Delta Company at 1055hrs found 1 empty box, for RPG ammo, and 1 57RR. Delta Company at 1138hrs in the vicinity of BS417583 found 2 huts, one 8 X 8 ft other 2 ft X 7 X 6 ft. contained 12 RPG rounds, 108 57 recoilless rifle ammo, 449-82mm rounds, 184-60mm rounds, 1-175mm rounds, 22 B-40 rockets, 5,500 30 cal rounds, 3100 AK-47 ammo, 1500 7.62mm rounds, 400 51 cal rounds, 1 81mm illumination round, all destroyed. At 1400hrs at BS423586 found 12 bunkers 1 with overhead cover were along stream destroyed. At 1428hrs Delta Company at BS423586 found 12 bunkers, cooked rice, 1 Chi com gas mask someone stayed last night, platoon size base camp, 2 trails, small going Southwest and Big trail going Northwest used trails. At 1520hrs Colonel Quinn the Ground Commander made decision due to terrain as to possible of getting photo team into area and ordered the destruction of all ammo but RPG rockets found and at 1705hrs at BS425583 found misc. web gear. At 1810hrs Delta Company established their Night Defense Position at BS422581.

 

Echo Company
November 18, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Cork where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Cork. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Cork where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 0922hrs Recon Platoon at BS441586 found 1 hut, inside was 10 container of ink, 3 pounds each, 5000 note tablets, 440 tablets board paper, 25 gals kerosene and 30 rolls of OD plastic (75 yards long). Also 21 rolls linen (75 yards long) 400’ of cheese cloth, 4 sewing machines, with tables, 2 singer, 2 Japanese, At 1130hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS441582. At 1810hrs Recon Platoon reports their Night Defense Position at BS446588.
