Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0224hrs North OP and Liz personnel on North OP spotted 2 individuals at grid BS753436 and immediately engaged them with M-79 and fired a red star cluster causing LZ Liz to go on 100% Alert. Two individuals evaded into the Ville at BS749437, Defense Targets were fired around the North OP, Recon Platoon will sweep at 1st light and Alert was terminated at 0252hrs. At 0300hrs Warlord Blue is on station in Box 65, at 0530hrs broke station with negative findings. At 0315hrs Warlord Blue is on station in Box 64 and at 0405hrs broke station with negative findings. At 0440hrs Warlord Blue is on station in Box 65 and at 0530hrs broke with negative findings. At 0455hrs MACV Duc Pho reports at 0330hrs vicinity BS864315 RF 715 and PF 180 reported that VC attacked the Thuy Thach refugee camp. At last radio contact with refugee camp, the PF and RF reactionary force was dispatched and had the VC cornered in the camp, no US confirmed with result 1 PSDF KIA. At 0700hrs North OP spotted 2 female Vietnamese carrying a body from BS754440, grid of enemy sitting and Defense Targets firing last night, body was carried to Village at grid BS753438. Recon diverted to search area but did not move into Ville itself. Found evidence of fresh footprints but no blood trails, Body was being carried by the two females, who wore brown on brown with no packs or weapons observed. At 0705hrs LZ Liz Access Road has been mine swept. At 0905hrs 1-20 Infantry Primo 3 is on station at this time and broke station at 0914hrs. At 0940hrs 4 ARVN Recon at 172300hrs vicinity BS769392 while on ambush KIA 2 VC, CIA 2 rucksacks, and 5 Chi Com grenades. At 1053hrs Box car 21 is on station to Combat Assault Bravo Company. At 1230hrs (READ BACK) MACV Duc Pho, PF 180, RF 715 and PSDF: VC attacked Thuy Thach village resulting in 6 PSDF KIA, 9 VC KIA, 3 AK47 CIA and 1 B40 CIA, US confirmed, time of event 180230hrs. At 1330hrs Hook move of Bravo Company completed. At 1755hrs 1-20 Infantry Primo 5 broke station at this time. At 2315hrs MACV Mo Duc reported that RF 250 at 180800hrs while in ambush location vicinity BS728594 was attacked by an unknown size enemy force resulting in negative friendly casualties and 2 VC KIA, 1 CAR15 CIA, not US confirmed. At 2315hrs Bravo Company LZ Liz, SGT Wilson inspected bunkers 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 with results satisfactory. Legend: 1st Platoon 81, 2nd Platoon 83, 3rd Platoon 59, 4th Platoon 88, CO-50.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company will continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1126hrs Alpha Company Command Post and 2nd Platoon at BS717427 had Vietnamese Children bring them 1 M79 round dud and 1 small jungle signal ground white smoke, paid the children C Rations for them. At 2012hrs Alpha Company all elements in locations Command Post and 2nd Platoon at BS718431, 1st Platoon at BS720445 with 3 Mechanical Ambush out.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company has closed on LZ Liz and taken over the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 2315hrs Bravo Company LZ Liz SGT Wilson inspected bunkers all satisfactory.
Charlie Company
July 18, 1971
Charlie Company set up Patrol Base and conducts multiple patrols in their Area of Operation. At 0802hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon and Command Pot is moving out to Patrol Base at BS663528. At 1017hrs Charlie Company at BS686524, requested Urgent Dust Off for one dog handler who hit a booby trap hand frag on Route 578. Trip wire was 4" off ground and 2 meters from Dog Handler, he sustained multiple frag wounds to the legs, Bust Off # 87, completed at 1039hrs. At 1944hrs Charlie Company Command Post and 2nd Platoon moving into their Night Defense Position at BS702517.
Delta Company

Recon was diverted to search area but did not move into Ville it self. They did find evidence of fresh footprints but no blood trails. The 2 females, who were wearing brown on brown, carried the body and no weapons were observed. At 1027hrs Delta Company is moving off of LZ Liz to their Patrol Bases 1st Platoon at BS736417, 2nd Platoon and Command Post at BS735410. At 1200hrs Delta Company stopped for lunch at 1200hrs before begin their multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1409hrs Delta Company changes 1st Platoon Base at BS732416 and Command Post and 2nd Platoon is at BS735412. At 2015hrs Delta Company has all elements in their Night Defense Position Command Post and 2nd Platoon at BS733414, 2nd ambush at BS731409, 1st Platoon at BS733420 and 1st Platoon at BS727418.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0640hrs Recon is moving to grid 7BS53436 for sweep. At 0700hrs North OP spotted 2 female Vietnamese carrying a body from BS754440, grid of enemy sitting and Defense Targets firing last night, body was carried to Village at grid BS753438. Recon diverted to search area but did not move into Ville itself. Found evidence of fresh footprints but no blood trails, Body was being carried by the two females, who wore brown on brown with no packs or weapons observed. At 0758hrs Recon reports that they have closed on LZ Liz. At 1855hrs Recon is moving out to vicinity BS749420. At 2022hrs Recon closed on their Night Defense Position.
