Headquarters and Headquarter Company
July 18, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0243hrs PF Ambush at 807393 reports mortar, 60mm at 807393 vicinity Bridge 105 PF report sighting a mortar squad moving into the area. Fired 10 rounds 81mm followed up with Flare Ship and Sharks, negative results. At 0830hrs 1-20 Infantry reports found 105mm dud located behind Miss Hall on LZ Thunder and requests EOD personnel to blow rounds. At 1-20 Infantry 1-20 Infantry TOC request 4 dogs and 4 handlers for 19 July1968 pick up at 0730hrs at southeast pad also requests for the 20 & 21 July 1968. At 1520hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC asked Brigade is road at BS768465 that leads to southwest closed to Vietnamese traffic, Brigade informed road was not closed. At 1815hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports 1st Platoon Delta Company 3-1 Infantry and l Platoon E Troop is on LZ Dragon. At 1750hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC E Troop 1 Cav at BS915247 reports one APC moving down hill when a track broke causing the APC to flip over with results 1 US KIA and 2 US injured, one had a broken ankle and other head injury, Dust Off completed at 1813hrs. At 2159hrs 1-20 infantry TOC call Dust Off to LZ Liz for EM with temperature of 105. At 2220hrs Late Entry 1-20 infantry TOC at 2150hrs vicinity BS865333 spotted lights, fired 81mm mortars, HE with negative assessment.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and will continue their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1335hrs 11th Brigade Signal Platoon one man in Ύ Ton truck was driving down the hill at LZ Bronco when truck slid off road and turned over, with results 1 US KIA. At 1945hrs Charlie Company Engineers at BS908146 EM was standing on perimeter when 2 rounds were fired, 1 round hit EM in right hand, When Dust Off came in it received 15 to 20 rounds of small arms fire while on approach to LZ. Small arms fire came from vicinity BS911151, returned fire with .50 caliber machine gun and small arms fire. 11 Brigade reports SGT FRANKYN WALLACE GERMANY SIGNAL PLATOON IS LISTED AS KIA AND E Troop 1 CAV 11 Brigade reports SGT EDDIE TYREE FRIERSON IS LISTED AS KIA.

 

Alpha Company
July 18, 1968

At 0955hrs Alpha Company is located at BS828297. At 1015hrs Alpha Company at BS827308 engaged 1 VC evading results in 1 VC KIA. At 1205hrs Alpha Company is located at BS827298. At 1815hrs Alpha Company has moved into their Night Defense Position at BS828297 with ambushes at BS821286, BS837243, and BS845286.

 

Bravo Company
July 18, 1968

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 0830hrs Bravo Company at LZ Thunder, found a 105mm dud located behind mess hall on LZ Thunder requests EOD personnel to blow round.

 

Charlie Company
July 18, 1968

At 0831hrs Charlie Company at BS775382 found a tunnel 4’ X 6’ at opening tunnel dropped down 10‘and went 10’ then tunnel turned left for another 10’ and will destroy after searching. At 0955hrs Charlie Company located at BS756371. At 1815hrs Charlie Company established their Night Defense Position at BS764400 with ambush at BS773403, BS753400 and BS768388.

 

Delta Company
July 18, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. At 1025hrs Delta Company at BS893213 received 1 round sniper fire, negative casualties. Observed sniper evading to the south and was to far away to engage area pursing at this time. At 1815hrs Delta Company has established their Night Defense Position location at BS892217 with their ambushes at BS894231 and BS902229.

 

Echo Company
July 18, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. Recon Platoon reports their location at LZ Bronco.
