Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0348hrs Saber 40 is on station reacting to Radar sighting by North OP vicinity BS758392. At 0405hrs Saber 40 vicinity BS763393, scrambled for radar sighting vicinity BS758391 observed muzzle flashes checked the area and sighted 2 hootches, 1 camouflaged bunker, 1 sampan, a plowed field, 2 Vietnamese hats and some pots and pans. Received 4-21 clearance, engaged the area, results sighted 2 males dressed in black evading west into the wood line vicinity BS760393, could not confirm weapons. Also destroyed 2 hootches, 1 bunker and broke station at 0423hrs. At 0623hrs Weather: Cloudy sky’s occasional light rain and drizzle and turn to cloudiness this afternoon. Wind northwest to northeast at 8 to 18 knots, temperature 67-76 with humidity 70-90% and outlook through Saturday with little change. At 0815hrs Primo 3 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 0927hrs Primo 3 is breaking station. At 1020hrs Helix 33 is on station. At 1315hrs Helix 34 is on station. At 1520hrs RF 716 in vicinity BS756534 received sniper fire from an unknown enemy at above grid. Resulting in 1 RF WIA negative Dust Off is required. At 1535hrs Primo 4 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 1525hrs S-4 Hornet 178 is on station for re supply and at 1530hrs Minuteman is on station for re supply. At 2040hrs TMF reports at 2030hrs String 313 A has unknown # of stationary personnel with negative metal confirmed. At 2120hrs Saber Black 45 is on station for Box 60, diverted by Brigade to BS824439 on radar sightings. Saw 1 person at grid BS820433, who fired at Saber Black 45, engaged and had negative findings, also checked out Box 60 with negative results then broke station at 2150hrs. At 2230hrs TMF at 2217hrs Sting 312 A has unknown size target with negative confirmation of metal engaged at 2219hrs with 10 HE VT rounds Artillery 105mm. Legend: 1st Platoon 02-07, 2nd Platoon 42-47, 3rd Platoon 92-97, 4th Platoon 52-57, CO-01.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
February 18, 1971

At 0755hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon is at BS764415 with 2nd Platoon at BS745403. At 0845hrs 1st Platoon ambush closed on OP Pax and 1st Platoon patrol moving to BS678527 and at BS678530 a squad from 1st Platoon on patrol found 1 can of Petna with trip wire attached to a stick in bushes. Booby trap was not on a trail but in an open area was blown in place. At 1013hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon in their Patrol Base at BS747412 and 2nd Platoon patrol moving to BS726406, with Command Post, 2nd, 4th Platoon is their Patrol Base at BS739412. At 1815hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon ambush is at BS703532 and by 1840hrs Alpha Company Command Post, 2nd, 4th Platoon in their Night Defense Position at BS739407, with 3rd Platoon at BS746410 with ambush at BS741411. At 2043hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon is in their ambush position at BS735399.

 

Bravo Company
February 18, 1971

At 0750hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon ambush BS612540, BS608537, 2nd Platoon ambush at BS616551 and 3rd Platoon ambush at BS617549 and Bravo Company used multiple ambushes in there Area of Operation. At 1940hrs Bravo Company Command Post, 1st, 4th Platoon at BS614548 and at 2030hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon ambush at BS615546, 2nd Platoon BS626550 and BS621537.

 

Charlie Company
February 18, 1971

At 0730hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon ambush is in location at BS699565. At 0927hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving to BS675545. At 1045hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon patrol vicinity BS703554 had a Vietnamese child lead them to a booby trap, it was a mackerel filled with Petna and had a smoke grenade type firing device with trip wire, also not on a trail but in the open. The child tripped booby trap did not detonate because of poor packing, disassembled, will be blown in place. At 1225hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS674547, 1st Platoon on patrol in the vicinity in close proximately of an ambush set off by Alpha Company five days ago and found 1 M-16 bandoleer, 1 M-16 magazine, 2 pair of Ho Chi Minh sandals, 1 home made belt believed to be NVA, stick to hold flashlight and 3 fresh graves. At 1305hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon ambush at BS703532 and at 1535hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon ambush is at BS694550. At 1905hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon ambush in location of BS694550, 1st Platoon ambush moving to BS694536, 1st Platoon ambush at 2008hrs is in position at BS703532. Charlie Company use both Day and Night ambushes with some patrolling in their Area of Operation.

 

Delta Company
February 18, 1971

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz along with road security.

 

Echo Company
February 18, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0701hrs Recon is moving to checkpoint 1 at vicinity BS753409 and at 0848hrs has reach checkpoint 2 vicinity BS835414. At 1200hrs Recon is now in their pre planned Day Ambush vicinity BS711435. At 1423hrs Recon is moving out for LZ Liz. At 1650hrs Recon closed on LZ Liz.
