Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0010hrs Blue Ghost 49 is on station at 0010hrs, with NH team in box 50 (Upper Left BS7340) Area of Operation boundary farther east point North to South on Railroad berm). At 0015hrs Brigade G-4 no vehicles allowed to pass through Tam Ky from 171345hrs to 171630hrs Military checkpoints to be set up at each end of the Ville. At 0210hrs Blue Ghost at NH #50 BS788392 has 1 enemy KIA with pack BS748397 then 8 enemies KIA with packs and weapons going down a trail, secondary explosion heard with 8 KIA, believed to be satchel charge headed toward LZ Liz. Moving northeast at the time of engagement at BS754393, 1 enemy KIA with pack and weapon sitting next to a bunker at the time of engagement. At 0215hrs Blue Ghost to box #51 with negative findings, broke station at 0227hrs. At 0430hrs Brigade from 170900hrs to 171300hrs MACV advisors NPFF and PRU with RF 147 with Charlie Company 4-21 Infantry will conduct Combat Assaults into BS8042 to BS7242 to BS8240 to BS8040. At 0740hr Battalion Commander with AMC departed LZ Liz starting all day Eagle Flight. At 0740hrs 1-20 infantry picked up 1 male detainee age 47 at BS743621 had no ID. At 0850hrs 1-20 Infantry at BS763603 picked up 1 male age 47 dressed in white unknown if he has ID. At 1305hrs E Troop 1-1 Calvary now location at BS769466 has 2 Platoons and waiting on the 3 Platoon. At 1315hrs 1-20 Infantry Eagle Flight completed with the following PZ and LZ: 1st PZ 0720hrs LZ 0730hrs grid BS753623, 2nd PZ 0737hrs LZ 0745hrs grid BS736629. 3 PZ 0751hrs LZ 0757hrs grid BS712583, 4 PZ 0825hrs LZ 0835hrs grid BS732623, 5 PZ 0842hrs LZ 0858hrs grid BS760603 and 6 PZ 0906hrs LZ 0914hrs grid BS754558 also 7 PZ 0930hrs LZ 0945hrs grid BS759378, 8 PZ 1021hrs LZ 1030hrs grid BS748397, 9 PZ 1640hrs LZ 1050hrs grid BS746396. 10 PZ 1058hrs LZ 1107 grid BS780493, 11 PZ 1205hrs LZ 1220hrs grid BS750450, 12 PZ 1230hrs LZ 1240hrs grid LZ LIZ and 13 PZ 1255hrs LZ 1305hrs grid BS717433. Battalion Commander returned to LZ Liz. At 1515hrs E Troop at BS728449 and BS730462 found a couple small tunnels checked and destroyed. At 1605hrs S-3 1-20 Infantry results of detainee’s from today Eagle Flights Charlie Company at BS790473 171000hrs detained 31 sent 4 to Military Intelligence, 16 to Mo Duc, 11 Innocent Civilians, Delta Company at BS756566 at 171000hrs 10 detained 4 sent to Military Intelligence. Battalion Commander at BS763603 at 171030hrs 1 detained and 1 sent to Military Intelligence for a Battalion total 45 detained, 12 sent to Military Intelligence, 20 to Mo Duc and 13 Innocent Civilians. At 1730hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC requests Area of Operation extension Bate/Time/Grid 180600hrs to 302400hrs SOP BS710530 to BS715530 to BS715500 to BS710510 purpose E Troop Combat Operations, approved by Brigade 0120hrs. At 1735hrs Brigade M-203 Grenade Launcher will replace the M-79 launcher as a 40mm system. A new equipment training team will visit 11 Brigade during 21-23 September to conduct instruction, 21 September 0830hrs to 1200hrs. Grenadiers of 3-1 infantry and 1-20 Infantry will receive instruction at LZ Liz. At 1300hrs to 1600hrs Grenadiers of 4-3 Infantry and 4-21 Infantry will received instruction at LZ Debbie, 22-23 September instructors from each Company will receive a 2 day block of Instruction at LZ Bronco 1 NCA from each Company will prove 20 rounds of 40mm per grenadier. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
September 17, 1970
At 1615hrs Alpha Company extracted 1500 pounds of rice taken to Mo Duc. At 1630hrs Alpha Company requests routine Dust Off at BS670575 for Vietnamese child with malaria completed at 1715hrs. At 1815hrs Alpha Company 36 element picked up 6 females at BS665576 plus 2 pamphlets of propaganda. Alpha Company is moving to their Night Defense Position at BS670573.
Bravo Company
September 17, 1970
At 0825hrs Bravo Company 56 element found 2 trip wire booby traps vicinity BS728624, 1 hand frag (M-26) across trail and 1 5-7 pound Petna booby trap with smoke grenade fuse destroyed in place. Bravo Company reports 84 element at BS752620 found a sand bag rucksack in a small tunnel, containing documents, Chi Com grenade, clothing, 23 carbine rounds and documents will be evac to Military Intelligence and tunnel was blown. At 0940hrs Bravo Company 84 and 12 elements at BS746628 observed one enemy with rucksack, pop out of the river, enemy was about 35, dressed in Blue engaged at 25 meters, resulting in one KIA. Along with Rucksacks found also spotted 2 other VC with weapons evaded to the south, 84 and 12 element searching in that direction. Bravo Company found 3 more booby traps and blew then in place. At 2100hrs Bravo Company follow up to #34 when rounds were exploded, they blew 2 bunkers, inside the bunkers were 3 VC, KIA, one of them was a tax collector and local force platoon. After US left the area the PF had dug out the 3 bodies along with 1 AK 47 and 1 M-2 carbine, report from villagers to security chief of Duc Hoai and relayed to Bravo Company by local RF and PF group Commanders.
Charlie Company

At 1605hrs S-3 1-20 Infantry results of detainee’s from today Eagle Flights Charlie Company at BS790473 171000hrs detained 31 sent 4 to Military Intelligence, 16 to Mo Duc, 11 Innocent Civilians, At 1900hrs Charlie Company 84 element is moving out for BS735444. At 1940hrs Charlie Company the 54 element in location at BS725415. At 1955hrs Charlie Company 04, 34, 12 elements in Night Defense Position at BS716436, and the 34, 54, 84 elements at BS725415 and 84 is at BS725444.
Delta Company
September 17, 1970
At 0620hrs Delta Company 12, 84 and 04 elements moving to Day Logger at BS754574. At 1125hrs Delta Company 83 element completed sweep of the area, checked out all personnel with negative findings and returned to Day Logger at BS754574. At 1500hrs Delta Company at BS747547 pick up 2 detainees evading near their resupply LZ, 1 male 55-60 wearing black and l female 40 wearing purple negative ID, will back hauling to Bronco. At 1520hrs Delta Company reports 86 element linked up with the PF. At 1730hrs Delta Company 31 and 61 elements have a new Night Defense Position at BS756573. At 2010hrs Delta Company reports locations 34 in location at BS758553, 12 BS756573, 55 at BS749580, 57 at BS748583 and 58 at BS754583. Also Delta Company has 84 at BS741569, 85 at BS744564 and 86 at BS744560. At 2035hrs Delta Company 35 element while moving to their ambush encountered 1 male age 50 Pham Lang, looked suspicious, had ID and was informed to release him. PFC Daniel R. Garcia was attached to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
