Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. Gaza Strip Operation continues their operations with Alpha Company providing Security for the Engineers.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion.
Alpha Company

At 0830hrs Alpha Company at grid BS772528 the 64 and 54 elements pulling security for the pick and shovel who are clearing the area. At 0850hrs Alpha Company grid BS772528 our 64 element found 2 more booby traps, it was believed to be a 60mm no casualties. At 0910hrs Alpha Company Urgent Dust Off requested at BS772523 we have one US personnel with multiple frag wounds to the light leg and arm. He hit a 105mm booby trap and is in bad shape and will need blood. Complete 0935hrs Name SSG Volvito. At 0942hrs Alpha Company our 54 element is at grid BS772527. At 1008hrs Alpha Company the equipment that landed on the beach (BS735535) 17 Oct 69 is as follows 1 D7 Rome plow, 3 ANCO Rome plow, 2 AMCO with bull blade, l welder and l M60 crane. At 1015hrs 1Battalion 20th Infantry to Alpha Company has been advised (instructed) to use over head cover on all fighting positions at their present location. At 1043hrs grid BS785535 we just received 2 more AMCO with bull blades. At 1812hrs Alpha Company gives a status Report on all Equipment. At 1817hrs Alpha Company received one Round of Incoming fire with no Casualties at BS785535. At 1835hrs Alpha Company 93 element pick-up a VCS at BS780548 believes NVA are still in area, we will evac for pick-up in the morning for further interrogation Right now is with Delta Company. I believe SSGT James F. Valvano was the name of WHA.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company is working with ARVN and RF forces using saturation patrolling and multiple Daylight and night snakes in their Area of Operation. Bravo Company also is providing security for the 9th Engineers, and other local operations.
Charlie Company
October 17, 1969
Charlie Company will continue the Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Delta Company
October 17, 1969
At 1043hrs Delta Company reports that Our Command Post, 10, 54, 04 elements are located at BS717393 and Our 64 element is at grid BS725386 and moving to grid BS723380. The 24 element is at grid BS705376 and then to grid BS707370. At 2020hrs Delta Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS719386 and send out a snake.
Echo Company
October 17, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense and Recon Platoon is in Chu Lai for their Stand Down.
