Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0314hrs TMF at 0300hrs string 75 had 3 personnel moving east to west at 5 mile per hour with metal detected at grid BS790366 with 10 HE Artillery 105mm rounds expended. At 0704hrs MACV at BS765508 we received 15 to 20 rounds of AK47 fire from a tree line at BS768514 and requests Artillery 105mm fire. At 0727hrs Artillery 155mm fired from LZ Liz, there are 2 dud WP rounds at BS770519. At 0805hrs OPCON to 1-20 Infantry Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry we are moving out to work on the land clearing in 45 minutes. At 0855hrs MACV as Dolphin 23 went into the Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry location he received 5 rounds of small arms fire from the west grid BS794525, there was not damage. At 0900hrs MACV we are at BS765516 and extended south 500 meters and north 200 meters. At 0945hrs Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry a drag chain set off a booby trap believed to have been a pressure type 105mm round, there was no damage or casualties grid BS767516. At 1010hrs Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry a drag chain hit another booby trap antipersonnel type with no casualties or damage at grid BS767416. At 1250hrs Helix we have an Air Strike going into BS708457. Ordnance of 15 250 pounds bomb with 100% detonation, 50% within 50 meters and 100 % was with 100 meters. No Visual Recon Team available but Delta Company was informed. At 1650hrs Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry and Charlie Company 26 Engineer we have closed on BS794524. At 1800hrs Charlie Company 26 engineer we cleared the area of 39.5 acres (400 meters by 400 meters).
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0714hrs Alpha Company reports the 77 element is closing and the 37 element will be on the Access road Security Mission.
Bravo Company
May 17, 1970
Bravo Company again today used Day Loggers with multiple patrolling and Search and Clear Operations and continued to work with PF and RF units in their Area of Operation. Bravo Company had negative finding for the day as elements closed back on their semi permanent positions.
Charlie Company
May 17, 1970
At 0647hrs Charlie Company all elements have closed on BS764377 and at 0655hrs out location is at BS762378 and the 77 and 38 elements have closed on Command Post. At 1200hrs Charlie Company request one routine Dust Off for one baby with a gash on the forehead at BS762378 and completed at 1225hrs. At 2020hrs Charlie Company is in our Night Defense Position at BS784387, the 57 element is at BS767389, the 74 element is at BS786377 and the 54 element is at BS774386. At 2200hrs Charlie Company request 1-20 Infantry XO and Charlie Company 1st SGT to be at the pick up point when we send in Locke to the MP’s for pretrial confident for possession of pot and endangering fellow soldiers, he also refuses to do any work and obey order.
Delta Company

At 0630hrs Delta Company the 57 element is closing on the 54 element, and the 34, 36, and 37 are linking up along with 74, 75, and 76 linking up to conduct multiple patrolling and Sear and Clear operations in their Area of Operation. Delta Company is establishing Night Defense Positions at BS748450, 34 at BS745445, 38, 54 and 94 at BS750463 and by 1820hrs all their snakes are in location.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 4.2 Platoon reports Fires 3 for a total expended of 6 HE rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0600hrs Recon Platoon we are moving from out night location and at 0605hrs 54 is at BS771508 and the 55 element is at BS774511 and at 0614hrs 53 is at BS768507 we are all in position. At 0758hrs Recon Platoon the 55 element found a dud MK2 frag which was blown in place at BS773511. It was old and rusty and was not booby trap. At 0951hrs Recon the 54 element received 5 rounds of AK 47 fire 200 meter to their northwest. 1 man got some shrapnel in his leg and was cared for by a medic. Small arms fire was returned with negative results at grid BS771508, line # 80. At 1105hrs Recon the 53 snake is at BS798504, the 54 snake is to be at BS773507 and the 55 is at BS764508. At 1945hrs Recon Platoon the 53 element is at BS768405, the 54 element is moving to BS773507 and the 55 element is at BS764508. Echo Company reports SP4 Michael A. (? Can’t read) treated and released field with frag wound left leg.
