Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0745hrs Brigade S-5 to 1-20 Infantry there will be a platoon size element of PF at junction of 515 and highway1 at 0800hrs for helping in the movement of the rice, there are negative US personnel with them. At 1015hrs Helix 33 will be putting an Air Strike at grid BS715461. At 1429hrs 1-20 Infantry was informed that hooks went into pickup the rice at Alpha Company location and they were fired upon with small arms with negative hits. The kooks are no going back in there and Command and Control Helicopter took a hit earlier and may request another bird. Alpha Company will try to get the rest out with a utility ship. At 1645hrs Warlords 1-20 Infantry at BS725456 reports warlords LOH has received small arms fire and possible 30 caliber fire, air craft in route to LZ Bronco for damage assessment.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 0640hrs Bravo Company 19 Engineer at BS868312 found 3 60mm Mortar rounds (2 buried in center of road about 50 meters apart and 1 75mm round further down Road) destroyed. At 0800hrs Base Defense at BS823393 reports from last night action 1 confirmed VC KIA, had one poncho, 5 sets of black PJ and 5 days of rice. At 1005hrs HHC 1-20 Infantry Bunker #46 with a guard with Bravo Company he was on bunker guard last night and he spotted 6 dinks at the same area, the rockets were fired from, he fired a shot over their heads and they sat down and pull their hats of their head, they turn out to be 6 small Vietnam kids. At 1130hrs Charlie Company 19 Engineer at BS916246 received 10 rounds of sniper fire and returned fire, negative casualties or enemy assessment. Delta 39 Engineer at 1716hrs at BS722580 received 10 rounds of small arms fire and took offensive position with negative casualties. At 1700hrs at BS867317 Delta Company 19 engineer reports 1st Platoon found perimeter wire with 6 holes, 2nd Platoon found perimeter wire cut near dump, and 3rd Platoon found perimeter wire cut. All sections where wire was cut, trip flares were burned out. At 2115hrs LZ Bronco Base Defense spotted 2 persons at BS835396 in starlight scope and direct fire Artillery 105mm engaged them crossing river, rounds hit on individual, negative observation after rounds impacted.
Alpha Company

At 0615hrs Alpha Company the Listening Post back in the Night Defense Position and at moving out at this time. At 1135hrs Report on the 16 July: We moved 6,500 pounds of Rice to Mo Duc and hooked out 4,300 pounds to Duc Pho, today we moved 10,000 to Mo Duc and have 15,000 left to be hooked to Duc Pho. The PF have reached my location and now bagging Rice and at 1420hrs Alpha Company we are receiving sniper fire from out west, we are putting 81mm on that location, grid BS737458 also at 1550hrs the PF have left out position. At 2037hrs Alpha Company has moved into their Night Defense Position vicinity of BS745469.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company moved out of LZ Liz. They Night Defense Position will be at BS762410, snake at BS760407 and 2nd snake at BS765410, all in position at 1921hrs. At 2120hrs Bravo Company the 85 element was in snake location about an hour, when they heard noises and they blew 2 claymore and then return to the Night Defense Position. The entire 83 element will check area in morning at grid BS760407.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company at 0650hrs closed on LZ Bronco and at 1033hrs Charlie Company Hook out at 1010hrs to LZ Liz to take over the Security Mission.
Delta Company
July 17, 1969
At 0850hrs Delta Company we are receiving Small Arms Fire and Automatic Weapons fire from our northeast Brought out the artillery and sending the 13 and the 63 element to sweep the area and the 83 and 23 element stays at Day Logger. At 1035hrs Delta Company receiving fire at this time, Small Arms Fire and Automatic Weapons Fire while working the Area of Operation with Recon in force with spondaic sniper fire. At 2055hrs Delta Company reports they are in their Night Defense Position at BS799454 and the 15 element snake are in location at this time.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At Recon and Charlie Company conducts a Combat Assault at 1010hrs and completed at 1032hrs. At 1310hrs Recon Platoon reported leaving wire at LZ Bronco at this time and at 1350hrs Recon reports their location at BS829387 and by 1605hrs has moved to BS837385. At 1715hrs Recon reports sensors have completed their mission and returned to LZ Bronco, the Recon Platoon is moving south to a day logger position and stay there until dark then move to a night location ambush site, platoon size ambush. At 2055hrs Recon reports their location BS838379.
