Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0135hrs MACV vicinity BS750490, RF 103 while in ambush location engaged 3 VC with 3 VC KIA, US confirmed. At 0335hrs Saber Black is on station for Box 60 and broke station at 0355hrs with negative findings. At 1540hrs S-4 Hornet 892 is on station for re supply. At 1645hrs Mo Duc, Khein Khuong Hamlet vicinity 715614, 1 VC 18 years old was CIA when he threw a hand grenade into the Duc Hoai Village Headquarters. VC states he was from the Big Rd Mountain area BS7460. I civilian was killed by the hand grenade, VC evac to Mo Duc District Headquarters. At 1647hrs OP Wink vicinity BS663539, observed 3 VC with packs and weapons and requested a fire mission in to the area with negative sighting after completion of the mission. At 1711hrs Battalion Commander with Primo 4 vicinity BS784506, while conducting a Visual Recon along Gaza Strip, Battalion Commander sighted 8 to 12 VC (2 had weapons) called in fire mission, gun ships requested, none available, enemy evaded into tree line and could not be observed. Primo 4 broke station at 1750hrs with negative results. At 2100hrs TMF at 2053hrs String 314 B, unknown stationary negative metal confirmed, engaged at 2157hrs 12 HE rounds Artillery 105mm. At 2110hrs TMF at 2107hrs String 310 A has 2 to 3 personnel moving southwest to northeast with negative confirmed and engaged at 2157hrs with 12 HE rounds Artillery 105mm. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0808hrs Alpha Company Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoon is at BS748405, 3rd Platoon Patrol Base at BS745394 and Command Post at OP Pax. At 1005hrs Alpha Company Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoon is at BS748405. At 1105hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon patrol is moving to BS734409 and 2nd Platoon Patrol Base vicinity BS749414. At 1210hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon at OP Pax vicinity BS693562. At 1910hrs Alpha Company Command Post and 4th Platoon moving to BS742403m 3rd Platoon at BS762412 and 2nd Platoon moving to BS745403. At 2008hrs Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoon is at BS739409, 2nd Platoon ambush at BS745403, 3rd Platoon BS762412 and BS764415 with 1st Platoon OP Pax with ambush at BS678530.

At 0755hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon closed at BS617537 and 2nd Platoon closed at BS624554 and BS617554. Bravo Company conducts Saturation Patrols into their Area of Operation as they continued to search and clear operations. At 1300hrs Bravo Company Command Post with 1st and 2nd Platoon is at BS617554, 2nd Platoon is at BS624554 and 3rd Platoon is at BS617554. At 2010hrs Bravo Company 1st, 4th Platoon, Command Post in Night Defense Position at BS612543, 2nd Platoon at BS615553, BS616551, 3rd Platoon BS617547, BS617549 and 1st Platoon ambushes at BS612540, BS608537.
Charlie Company

At 0455hrs Charlie Company RF 460 Vicinity BS710553 on a raid received a hand frag and some AK-47 fire and wounding one Mat Team advisor, Request a Priority Dust Off for 1 RF frag wounds to legs and 1 US frag wounds to face, Dust Off completed at 0706hrs. At 0848hrs RF 460 from OP Wink with MAT team advisor on raid were moving on a trail in Ville. Believe 3 VC occupied Ville, VC threw frag from hooch, took AK-47 fire and VC left area, results 1 US with frag wounds to face. RF with multiple frag wounds to legs, Dust Off called and completed at 0706hrs. At 1008hrs Charlie Company is moving to OP Pax and 3rd Platoon moving to BS696556. At 1525hrs 3rd Platoon closed on BS694545. At 1525hrs the 3rd Platoon closed on location at BS694545. At 1550hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS701563 requested Urgent Dust Off for Vietnamese female with multiple frag wounds to both legs, completed at 1605hrs. At 1650hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS701563 Vietnamese women hit a booby trap on trail near railroad berm, it was a 60mm mortar round with a trip wire. Kit Carson Scout says booby trap was approximately 5-7 days old. At 1905hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon in location vicinity BS699565.At 1650hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS701563, Vietnamese women hit a booby trap on a trail near railroad berm, was a 60mm mortar round with a trip wire. Kit Carson Scout says Booby trap was approximately 5 to 7 days old.
Delta Company

At 1030hrs Delta Company closed on LZ Liz, and take over the Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Echo Company
February 17, 1971
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0807hrs Recon is moving out for OP Wood Stock. At 1245hrs Recon has closed on OP Wood Stock at BS673572. At 1700hrs 4.2 Platoon has closed on OP Pax at BS693538.
