Headquarters and Headquarter Company
February 17, 1970
Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0435hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Radar at 2100hrs at BS779464 pick up 6-8 stationary and at 0110hrs TMF picked up 5 persons at BS747368 and at 0135hrs Radar at Bs792462 pick up 6-8 stationary personnel at BS792462. At 0641hrs Battalion Command Officer departed LZ Liz and returned at 0710hrs. At 1132hrs Helix 35 we are putting in an Air Strike on grids BS766360 and BS778354, Bomb Damage Assessment two fighting positions destroyed, 2 bunkers destroyed and 2 secondary fires. At 1320hrs all Bunkers are in good condition and all have plumb bobs.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
February 17, 1970
At 0120hrs Alpha Company request Urgent Dust Off for 1 US with frag wounds in back, left and shoulder, left side of head, buttocks was hit by short round friendly 81 fire from Liz. He was on bunker eight when wounded had his helmet on but had taken off flak jacket, dust off completed at 0123hrs. Alpha Company continued with their Security Mission for LZ Liz. PFC Norman E. Carlson evac to 27 Surgical Hospital with frag wounds to right buttocks and back.
Bravo Company
February 17, 1970
At 0653hrs Bravo Company Combat Assault from BS777446 with the 72 element to BS784406 and 28 element from BS783433 to BS780405, the 42 element from BS783433 to BS788404, the 32 element from BS789417 to BS783402 1st PZ 0653hrs and 1st LZ 0700hrs. At 0757hrs Bravo Company Combat Assault early results at BS788404 28 element found 9 bunkers destroyed one dud 155 round blown in place. At 1130hrs Bravo Company 35 element working with RF and PF received small arms sniper fire while they were moving into position at grid BS787429. They checked out the area after putting in some Artillery in with negative finding. At 1800hrs Bravo Company at BS784432 found and destroyed 1 66mm A(2.75") rocket with booby trap with trip wire. At 2015hrs the 72 element checked out grid BS778445 and picked up 4 VC male detainees.
Charlie Company
February 17, 1970
At 0844hrs Charlie Company 42 element has closed and the 32 is sweeping to their objective, the 72 element is closing on 75 for security. At 1400hrs Charlie Company our present location BS834405 and the 72 element is at BS836401 and at 1440hrs Charlie Company 75 element request a Routine Dust Off for 1 US minor frag wounds in the knee by friendly fire. The wound was received from an M-79 round completed at 1500hrs he was taken to Bud Pad. At 1635hrs Charlie Company with UDT reports at BS849400 at 1415hrs found 3 caches with numerous fishing nets, 120 pounds of unpolished rice wrapped in plastics and 40 pounds of fish. There were signs of recent activity evac to LZ Bronco. Charlie Company all elements have closed on Duc Pho Charlie Company Going on the Re Training and on their Stand Down at Chu Lai.
Delta Company
February 17, 1970
At 0725hrs Delta Company reports all snakes have closed on Night Defense Position. At 0915hrs Reference plans Delta Company tonight ambush form BS723421 along a line about 200 meters inside boundary to BS758377; to be sure snakes are 500 meters apart; for tomorrow check grid squares BS7440; BS7539 and BS7538. At 1006hrs Delta Company we found one dud 81mm round about 500 meters, west of our Night Defense Position at BS732428. It was blown in place. At 1700hrs Delta Company we are moving to our Night Defense Position at BS737415 and closed at 1835hrs. At 1940hrs Delta Company reports 44 element is at BS755398 and the 34 element is at BS735398 and at 2040hrs Delta Company the 74 element is at BS742392 and 32 has closed on BS737415hrs.
Echo Company
February 17, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion At 0750hrs 4.2 Platoon Ammo Reports fired 1 Supporting Missions 1, Observed Mission 2 expended 24 HE, 12 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0225hrs Recon notified Recon to be at grid BS762404 by 0645hrs, then split into two elements send one to sweep to BS773408 and send other element to sweep to BS776402, starting moving on sweep no later then 0700hrs. At 0618hrs Recon reports we are starting to link up with Will Scarlet and Little John. At 0655hrs Recon has linked with Will Scarlet and moving into position for sweep. At 0920hrs Recon Platoon has closed on LZ Liz.
