Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1110hrs 1-20 Infantry reported that E-troop on bridge 99 and were firing in the direction of 1-20 Infantry troops, E Troops was notified. At1605hrs 1-20 Infantry Major Davis requested someone to meet the Dust Off ship, with VC on it, VC claims to be adjutant of the 1-20th Company. At 1850hrs E Troop on Bridge 105, has spotted 5 VC with weapons moving south and engaging more to follow. At 1930hrs Alpha Company reports locations at LZ Thunder and BS855305 with OP Tripoli. At 2000hrs E Troop 1Cav 6th element reported that on bridge 104 had mortar round land about 40 meters from a vehicle with negative damage or injuries. At 2015hrs 1-20 Infantry Vehicle ambush 3 personnel, 1 EM wounded, Burgoyne, shot in ankle not heavily damage, estimated 1 sniper several shot at 1740hrs. At 2340hrs MACV Major Smith Duc Pho relayed that MACV Quang Ngai is on 100% alert, information received order to ambush all convoys on Highway 1.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0948hrs 1-20 Infantry SGT of the guard found across from Bunker 47 a live canister thought to be a flare, 1st SGT of Delta Company to have EOD come and blow the flare. At 2003hrs Base Defense Hotel Bunker 03 received 3 rounds of small arms from the north and engaged with negative results. At 2020hrs Bunker spotted 4 personnel moving at BS8063386 moving north to south, engaged with negative results. At 2230hrs Artillery fired on BS823404 as possible VC Mortar position, this was fired as a result of the report of 2 VC uprising tonight at 0300hrs, all sectors were notified. . PFC Robert C. Burguyne was attached to the 67th Medical Evac.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder with one element running a Search and Destroy operation in their Area of Operation. At 0730hrs Alpha Company at grid BS867330 detained 2 VCS. At 1040hrs Alpha Company reports on LZ Thunder. At 1125hrs Alpha Company reports that the detained 2 VCS, military age, 1 had no ID they where evac to Brigade POW cage.
Bravo Company

At 1040hrs Bravo Company is located BS887317. At 1040hrs Bravo Company located at BS887317. At 1115hrs Bravo Company at BS894317, found 2 claymores and 1 pineapple grenade destroyed in place. At 1150hrs Bravo Company at BS880310 found an abandoned house with ammo can of assorted US Ammo. At 1300hrs report on Assorted Ammo, 300 rounds 7.62, 139 rounds 7.62 linked, 74 rounds 7.62 tracer, 12 rounds 5.56 tracer, 173 rounds 5.56ball, 15 45 caliber, 2 M-79 rounds and 2 M-16 magazines, will be destroyed. At 1415hrs Bravo Company at BS898312 found 4 VCS, 3 men were hiding in tunnel with 1 woman in other side of tunnel. I had slight wrist wound and also found 1 M-1 carbine S/N 6527203, 1 45 caliber 45 pistol S/N 1835478. At 1500hrs Bravo Company at BS898312 detained 3 female VCS. At 1600hrs Bravo Company after questioning VC with wrist wound, was dusted off, and 2 VCS were released. At 1605hrs 1-20 Infantry Major Davis requested someone meet Dust Off ship with VC on it, VC claims to be adjutant of the 120th Company. At 2130hrs Bravo 30 reports many lighted boats about 2000 meters off shore. Some appear to be signaling shore, Swift Boats called to check.
Charlie Company

At 0945hrs Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Uptight with ambushes at BS672867 and BS690866. At 1700hrs Charlie Company at BS719809 detained 3 VCS.
Delta Company
February 17, 1968
Delta Company at BS857345 and by 1045hrs at grid BS866355 Delta Company found 15 pound home made bomb made of TNT, drawings were made and the bomb was destroyed. At 1227hrs Delta Company at grid BS862350 found old women making a VC gas mask, will hold for questioning. At 1235hrs Delta Company at BS863353 found Vietnamese Child who was apparently played with some type explosive and lost a finger Dust Off to Bronco. At 1345hrs Delta Company at BS873352 found a metal to metal firing device, will evac. At 1655hrs Delta Company at BS862345 found 2 M-79 rounds, 7 old 37mm rounds, 1 canteen and 1 steel pot, being destroyed. At 2000hrs Delta Company received automatic weapons fire and returning fire, 1 US WIA evac minor at 1945hrs. At 2205hrs Delta Company reports the 1st Platoon moved to new location after being detected earlier.
Echo Company

Echo Company and 4.2 platoon where located on LZ Thunder to provide direct support to the Battalion. At 1040hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS764388. At 1640hrs Recon found 2 tunnels and searched with negative results also looked like they had been last used 2 or 3 days ago. At 1930hrs Recon reports locations at BS762375 with ambushes at BS754374, BS757375 and BS765375.
