Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0405hrs Inferno blue is on station checking Snoopy perimeter and at 0425hrs broke station for re fuel. At 0440hrs Inferno blue is in Nighthawk Box 26, at 0505hrs checking Bronco perimeter and at 0509hrs checking LZ Liz perimeter and at 0517hrs broke station. At 0730hrs the resupply Hornet 39 is on station. At 0810hrs LZ Liz reports Access road is clear and open. At 1015hrs Inferno 56A is working Air Calvary Box 68. At 1016hrs LRRP has made contact with a unknown size enemy force results 3 VC KIA and 2 packs CIA at BS643208. At 1035hrs Convoy has arrived at LZ Liz. At 1100hrs Primo 6 (11 Infantry Brigade Aviation) is on station and broke station at 1200hrs. At 1235hrs 4-4 ARVN Battalion while on a Search and Clear mission had 1 VC KIA and 5 Chi Com grenades CIA. Gun ships while working with 1-4 saw 2 NVA dressed in Khaki engaged with results 2 NVA KIA at BS712297. At 1300hrs Resupply 0700hrs to 1800hrs and LOH 0900hrs to 1000hrs. At 1330hrs Commanding General is at LZ Liz. At 1410hrs Commanding General departed 1405hrs discussed move off of LZ Liz and now heading to LZ Lion. At 1430hrs Convoy while en route to Chu Lai had a cow run in front of 1 of the trucks resulting in 1 cow killed. The owner of the cow and our S-5 are meeting in Mo Duc at this time, the convoy is continuing on to Chu Lai and 1-20 Infantry continue the move to their new location. At 1600hrs Inferno 59 is on location and working in Air Calvary Box 67. At 1355hrs 1-20 Infantry reports convoy departed LZ Liz en route to Chu Lai with 13 vehicles and 30 Pax arrived at Chu Lai at 1620hrs. At 2000hrs TMF String 292 target C was activation with 7 to 10 personnel moving east to west metal confirmation, 3 miles per hour at 1956hrs notified, and engaged at 2012hrs shot intelligence only BS757405. At 2225hrs V nap air strikes BS789250, BS850230, BS805240 and BS572458. At 2000hrs 1-20 Infantry Battalion reports their Field Strength Alpha 47, Charlie 47, Echo 22 and HHC 6. At 2242hrs Correction in Ranger Box was BS640673, BS5455 to BS640573 along south bank of Song Ve River to BS680575 to BS6855 to start. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company is on LZ Liz preparing for move west and LZ Liz is to be turn over to the ARVN. Alpha Company conducts an ARVN from a PZ at BS650520 at 0900hrs Cold.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Charlie Company
August 17, 1971
Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. Charlie Company conducted a Combat Assault from PZ at LZ Liz at 0820hrs to a LZ at BS729328 completed at 0842hrs LZ cold. Charlie Company conducts Search and Clear Operations and reports they Night Position at BS729328.
Delta Company

At 1005hrs Delta Company are in their PZ at BS671488 and moved to LZ Liz to take over the Security Mission for LZ Liz. Delta Company 1-20 Infantry at BS671488, 171100hrs August 1971 While on Search and Clear Mission found 3 structures from 29’X 75’ long, 20’ wide found 1 structure with coven bamboo containers with 500 pounds of rice and 50 meters southeast of found 2 X 500 pounds bags unpolished rice unpolished rice is being extracted to Que Son if possible, if not all today will finish the extraction tomorrow. At 1230hrs Delta Company had a cook off on a M60 on US received minor frag wound. Delta Company unit completed an extraction from PZ at BS67289 at 1417hrs to an LZ at LZ Liz completed at 1436hrs. At 2359hrs SSGT Adams inspected the Delta Company bunker line and results all satisfactory.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1400hrs Recon reports their Night Defense Position will be at BS735418. At 1945hrs Recon reports they are in their Night Defense Position.
