Headquarters and Headquarter Company
August 17, 1970

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0100hrs the TMF String 73b was activated by a stationary target with metal confirmed, engaged target with 8 VT rounds of 105 Artillery. A Visual Recon Team was requested but was no available. At 0531hrs 11 Brigade a severe weather warning in the Date/Tim/Grid 170445hrs and 170600hrs August 1970 in our Area of Operation with some isolated Thundershowers, with winds to 15 knots and gusts to 35 knots and at 1200hrs there will be broken ceiling and at 2000hrs overcast. At 1755hrs 1-20 Infantry S-5 report a total of 182,000 leaflets were dropped target against C-19, C-219 and five VIP. 1-20 Infantry reports their Med Cap treated 30 at BS718548.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
August 17, 1970

At 1115hrs Alpha Company at drop off Point at BS726545, Alpha 72 is moving to BS718565, 35 to BS722554, and 52, 42, 70 to BS728545. Alpha Company receiving small arms fire with negative finding or casualties and set up multiple ambushes this evening.

 

Bravo Company
August 17, 1970

Bravo Company is working with the PF and RF in joint operations and used multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation.

 

Charlie Company
August 17, 1970

Charlie Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 2025hrs Charlie Company 26 element roving on the access road spotted 2 personnel at 25 meters off the access road and on South side and about 250-300 meters from the Red Ball. The South OP searchlight is ready, and the 4.2 Illumination was fired and the element is on the north side of the road moved toward the target. Their personnel were on the Red Ball and were not engaged.

 

Delta Company
August 17, 1970

At 0935hrs Delta Company is departing to LZ Bronco for Retraining and their Stand Down.

 

Echo Company
August 17, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0420hrs 4.2 Mortar Platoon reports Fire Mission 1 for a total expended of HE 30 rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1914hrs Recon Platoon the 53 element is leaving LZ Liz for BS717436. At 2240hrs Recon Platoon the 53 element blew their ambush on an undermined number of personnel resulting in 1 folding stock AK47 in excellent condition and a rucksack CIA. The contact was made at 75 meters at grid BS716435. The personnel did not go through the ambush but to the side of it. Recon knows of 1 WIA but have no bodies.
