Headquarters and Headquarter Company
August 17, 1969
Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0605hrs 1-20 Infantry the Command message is given to Companies "Say Alert –Stay Alive". At 0700hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer with PF platoon at BS768465 they moved east off the road and saw a straw man dressed in a NVA uniform as they approached the figure they detonated pressure type mine with results 1 KIA and 1 WIA. Also they received heavy automatic weapons fire. Charlie Company 39 Engineer and interpreter check area and found out that was a VC Platoon with AK-47’s and 2 M-79’s and 800 rounds of 40mm HE rounds PF Company reported VC bunkers and tunnels at BS774465 also surrounding huts in the area at BS770469 and BS774469, BS77471 and surrounding area’s are reported heavily booby trap. 39 Engineer request Artillery be fired into the area (Information only). At 1005 Bravo Company 39 Engineer at BS724571 near culverts site 404 east found 12 small bombs buried in the road. 1-82 Artillery they were Air Force CBU’s, destroyed bombs and continued sweep Road is passable. At 1015hrs 11 Brigade Bravo Company 39 Engineer at BS702605 at 0157hrs received 4 mortar rounds 2 rounds landed in Artillery area and 2 landed in the Bravo Company 39 Engineer, returned fire with results unknown and reports negative casualties or damage. At 1950hrs Bravo Company reports they have commo with all bunkers. At
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion.
Alpha Company
August 17, 1969
At 0202hrs Alpha Company at LZ Snoopy we have just received approximately 4 incoming mortar rounds with negative casualties. Alpha Company is working up a fire mission for artillery at this time.
At 0550hrs Alpha Company 55 snake closed on the Night Defense Position. At 1920hrs Alpha Company 21 element is moving into their location at this time and at 1950hrs my 21 element has a new location BS716599.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz along with Access Road.
Charlie Company
August 17, 1969
At 0600hrs Charlie Company again will be using Recon in Force operations along with Day Loggers in their Area of Operation. At 0920hrs Charlie Company is move into their Day logger at BS801407. At 1050hrs Charlie Company requests a Routine Dust Off for one US with possible malaria, unable to do regular duties, Name Costabile, Nataline SP4., completed at 1138hrs. At 2005hrs Charlie Company is moving into their Night Defense Position at BS807404 with 51 snake BS807410 and 55 at BS816401.
Delta Company
August 17, 1969
Delta Company moved with the 91 element doing the Recon in Force. Delta Company picked up one female VCS, 60 years old had documents stating that she know where NVA were, pick up in vicinity BS806404. Move to their Night Defense Position with the 91and the 92 element moving out to their snake locations. SP4 Harry Theodoris was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Echo Company
August 17, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0632hrs 4.2 Platoon reports 1 Defense Targets 1, Observe Mission 1 with total expend 5 HE 1 WP rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At Recon Platoon 0628hrs we are now leaving the perimeter and by 0656hrs we are moving to checkpoint 1. At 0940hrs Recon Platoon we are now at checkpoint 1. At 0951hrs Recon Platoon we are now at checkpoint 2. At 1020hrs Recon Platoon is now in position at checkpoint 3 vicinity BS753456. 1520hrs Recon Platoon picked up 5 VCS males, they were trying to evade from Recon location at BS758455. At 1700hrs Recon we are closing on LZ Liz, Echo Reports PFC Charles A. Shell was attached to 312th Evac Hospital (11B20).
