Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1130hrs MACV Mo Duc RF and PF element that checked the area of Artillery and Shark Fire from last night have been in contact with unknown enemy element all morning, broke contact 45 minutes ago, will give complete read out as soon as it comes in. At 1355hrs S-5 2 children threw a grenade into the S-5 Jeep, the primer went off but the grenade did not go off, Battalion interpreter shot 1 child the second evaded into the hamlet, WIA evac to 23 Medical. Coordination being made with MACV at this time to look for the other boy, jeep was parked at the time, name Nguyen Lau age 12 years old from Pho Hung, Pho Xuan, MSS, picked up another boy who was involved said that there was a total of 4 kids. At 2045hrs 1-20 Infantry all elements notified that Eagle Flight will be run on Administration Log. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
September 16, 1970
At 0915hrs Alpha Company 27 element at BS673567 found 2,000 pounds of unpolished rice, spread over a small area, bagging it for extraction, very good condition, it was from this year harvest. About ¾ of it was found buried (under the hootches) also found a small amount of medical supplies. Alpha Company took 3 rounds of small arms fire from BS678578, sent the 31 element check the area out with negative finding. Alpha Company wraps up Total detainees extracted was 27, total rice extracted 3,600 pounds with 1 ton left. Alpha Company 31 element is moving into Night Defense Position at BS670575. At 1935hrs Alpha Company while moving into Night Defense Position found approximately 1,000 pounds of rice, unpolished and in good condition from this year harvest. More then enough for people living in the area rice will be bagged and evacuated tomorrow.
Bravo Company

At 0900hrs Bravo Company 55 element found at BS726627 a small bunker complex with trench line running between them and 4 (155) rounds. Also cans of Petna booby trap in a hole with 60mm rounds attach. At 1640hrs Bravo Company 56 element found 7 105 rounds filled with Petna, blew in place at BS726626.
Charlie Company

At 0735hrs Charlie Company 23, 27, 27a, 83 and 85 elements closed on BS715434 and the 53 closed on BS722418. Charlie Company is using multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation today and some daylight ambushes. At 1030hrs Charlie Company 85 element closed on Day Logger at BS714432. At 2010hrs Charlie Company 23 element moved out for BS731443, the 25 element moved out for BS729448 and the 27 element has moved out for BS730436. At 2045hrs Charlie Company 83 element is in location at BS714444, the 85 element in location at BS710438, and the 87 element in location at BS712432.
Delta Company

At 0605hrs Delta Company 53 element is in Day Logger at BS741577 and the 55 in Day Logger at BS743584. At 0710hrs Delta Company Delta Company 25 element is moving for BS756556, 83 in their Day Logger at BS759559 and 23, 31 and 63 in their Day Logger at BS758559. At 0907hrs Delta Company 83 conducts a sweep moving out for BS757559 and completed mission at 1035hrs. At 1030hrs Delta Company 84 engaged 4 packs at BS749561 dressed in green uniforms resulting in 3 KIA, 1 pistol CIA and a lot of documents, check area could not find 4 Pack. Also Delta Company 84 at BS749561 while sweeping through the mangrove are checking the results of 4.2 shoot detected 4 enemy personnel with packs moving to their front. They deployed and engaged result in 3 NVA and items found 1 waterproof bag, 1 poncho, 1 bag of documents, 1 bottle of pills, 1 mirror, 1 GI flashlight, 1 9mm pistol, holster and 3 clips of ammo (K-54). Set up some ambushes in their Area of Operation. At 1425hrs Delta Company 3 KIA, 2 wearing green, 1 wearing blue, a waterproof bag with straps, a poncho and change of clothes, blue waterproof bag with papers, flashlight, pill, mirror, 9mm pistol, enemy engaged at 35’. At 1845hrs Delta Company 56 element closed on BS757564, captured 1 detainee at BS772582, age 24 male picked up at 1815hrs, found him hiding, will hold in Night Defense Position, extract tomorrow, negative ID. At 1935hrs Delta Company 23, 31, 63 elements is moving to BS753571 with 26 element moving to BS753564.
Echo Company
September 16, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 1830hrs 4.2 Mortar Platoon at 1300hrs had moved to LZ Dragon BS775535 and fired a Destruction Mission against Mangrove Swamp location at BS747563, Delta Company 84 element swept through the area at completion of mission and destroyed 2 fighting position, total round fired 204 HE rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0600hrs Recon Platoon is moving back to LZ Liz.
