Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Chevy and will continued to work with ARVN units and Special Forces in their Area of Operations. LATE ENTRY: on 151800hrs September 1968 Austrian Missionary came to HA Thanh SFC and reported his people said there were 100’s of NVA northwest of HA Thanh, they wore high top boots. The 1-20 Infantry begins their part in Operation CHAMPAIGN GROVE and OPCON to Task Force GALLOWAY.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion with forward S-4 Group at Chu Lai and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1805hrs 6-11 Artillery at BS737529 had vehicle accident just off LZ Dragon with 1 non Battle Wound (E) with minor damage to vehicle.
Alpha Company
September 16, 1968
Alpha Company conducts their Combat Assault from LZ Liz to Ha Thanh Special Forces Camp completed at 0850hrs. The remainder of the Battalion was airlifted into HA THANH SPECIAL FORCES CAMP to join Delta in preparation for Operation CHAMPAIGN GROVE under control of Task Force Galloway. Alpha Company Combat assault from LZ Liz was completed at 0850hrs.
Bravo Company

1-20 Infantry TOC at 0953hrs Bravo Company is airlifted was completed to HA THANH Special Forces Camp and become OPCON to OPERATION CHAMPAIGN GROVE under Task Force GALLOWAY.
Charlie Company
September 16, 1968
1st Lift Charlie Company from LZ Thunder to Ha Thanh Completed at 0755hrs, Charlie Company 60 element left from Charlie Brown to Ha Thanh and Charlie Company last lift Ha Thanh Special Forces Camp completed at 1214hrs. Last of Artillery will still be moving to Valley Force. The 1-20 Infantry begins their part in Operation CHAMPAIGN GROVE and OPCON to Task Force GALLOWAY. At 1830hrs Charlie Company reports their location at BS395704.
Delta Company
September 16, 1968
Delta Company was joined by the reminder of the battalion for operations CHAMPAIGN GROVE under TASK FORCE GALLOWAY. At 1830hrs Delta Company reports their location at BS394708. At 2019hrs Delta Company OP west of Night Defense Position heard movement coming from east fired claymore and movement west back west, fired M-79 with negative assessment a grid BS417742.
Echo Company

Echo Company is located at LZ Chevy where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Chevy. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Chevy where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). Recon Platoon with Battalion Equipment pull into Special Forces Camp Ha Thanh completed at 1056hrs.
