Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0830hrs Requests Area of Operation extension from DATE/TIME/GRID 161200hrs to 170600hrs October 1970 from BS745380 to BS7435 south east along Area of Operation boundary to BS7835. Purpose Combat Operation for Recon Platoon, Barks received transmission. At 0945hrs Brigade at present time the storm is 250 Nautical Miles north to northwest of Chu Lai moving north 90 knots per hour. The closest it will come to land is 100 miles. The winds in the Chu Lai area are to reach 35 to 40 knots. At 1125hrs Delta Company 4-21 infantry on trucks headed to LZ Debbie and released OPCON. At 1315hrs S-2 in regards to the question asked by Brigade S-2 concerning the origin of captured medical supplies. In the past, Medical supplies that have been captured came from North Vietnam, China and Germany. At 2140hrs TMF String 676 at BS661583, sighted stationary target at BS661583, negative metal confirmation and engaged at 2200hrs 8 HE rounds 105 Artillery. Legend 1st Platoon 03-08, 2nd Platoon 53-58, 3rd Platoon 83-88, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 43.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At SP4 Jeffrey Woolridge Echo Company was attached to 91st Evac Hospital sick.
Alpha Company

Brigade at the present time the storm is 250 Nautical miles north to northwest of Chu Lai moving north 90 knots per hour. The closest it will come to land is 100 miles the winds in the Chu Lai area are to reach 35-40 knots. At 1023hrs Alpha Company is moving out to pre-planned location 43- 03 at BS753550, 53 at BS768555 and 83 at BS738547. At 1320hrs Alpha Company at BS746548 found 50 pounds of rice inside some straw. It was bagged in good condition, unpolished, this year crop and will backhaul. At 1630hrs Alpha at BS770545, the 87 element while moving to their patrol base engaged one enemy dressed in green, at a distance of 50 meter, small arms fire was exchanged. Simultaneously, 5 or 6 other enemy dressed in green evaded eastward. The 87 element assault the contact area. Upon entering the wood line results they found 2 M-16 rifles, 1 AK47, 1 SKS and 1 weapon M-1 carbine, 4 pistol belts, 7 M-26 grenades and 5 flashlights. Alpha Company reports 1 US WIA (M) frag wound. At 1939hrs Alpha Company reports 55 ambush in location at BS768598, the 86 ambush is in located at BS768552 and the 53/83 elements ambush in location at BS770544. At 2030hrs Alpha Company 05 element at BS746550, 56 Rat Patrol is at BS766557 and the 85 element is at BS762548.
Bravo Company

At 1156hrs Bravo Company 43 weapons fired at Bravo Company AK47, M-16, B40, possible a law, 30 cal machinegun, estimated size of enemy force, 10-11 personnel, KIA unknown, due to the heavy brush. Bravo Company fired into the .30 caliber machinegun position and fired ceased, felt that they have a possible 2 KIA. At 1213hrs Bravo Company picked up resupply on Highway 1 heading back to Day Logger at BS739568. Bravo Company 03 reports they are in Night Defense Position at BS738575.
Charlie Company

At 1023hrs Charlie Company arrived at LZ Liz and is taking the Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Delta Company
October 16, 1970
Delta Company is moving to link up position BS714607. At 0950hrs Delta Company at link-up point awaiting PF at BS714607. 1410hrs 43 element engaged 1 or 2 enemy snipers with one US was wounded in the hip, Dust Off completed at 1520hrs. At 2023hrs Delta Command Post BS735618, 83 BS728612, 03 BS724598, 54 BS736624, 84 BS724609 and 04 BS720604. PFC Anthony Milito was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital with gun shot wound left Hip.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1045hrs Recon Platoon is moving out for BS763415. At 1400hrs Recon Platoon at checkpoint 1 at BS753407. At 1540hrs Recon is at this time approaching LZ Liz and closed on Liz at 1605hrs. At 1945hrs Recon Platoon reports in location at BS759406 have 3 Mechanical Ambushes deployed. PFC Robert W. Nagle was evac to Company B 23rd Medical Battalion sick at 1915hrs.
