Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0910hrs Helix 36 FAC We are putting in an Air Strike at gird BS845405. Two huts destroyed, 2 huts damaged and two fighting position destroyed. At 0930hrs Recon Platoon and E Troop PZ and LZ for stand down to and from Chu Lai. At 1105hrs S-3 to Brigade Area of Operation extension DATE/TIME/Grid 161200hrs October 1969 to 172400hrs October 1969 from our south Area of Operation south to BS7638 east to Brigade control fire zone, Approved by Brigade. At 1115hrs 39th Engineer we will try to start paving 17 October 69 from grid BS742522 south to Duc Pho. At 1530hrs Delta Company is Combat Assault to BS717333 and last LZ 1550hrs. At 1730hrs PRU and Charlie Company are Combat Assault from BS756459 to LZ Liz and MACV complete. Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. 1030hrs S-4 to S-3 there is a critical shortage of PAC 25 batteries in the brigade. At 1855hrs LZ Bronco Condition of bunkers Report in Echo Sector of LZ Bronco. (ser-serviceable, unser-unserviceable) 43-falling down/unser, 44 needs fill/ser, 45-improper bracing, 46-in process of being built/ser, 47-needs cement floor/ser, 48-imporper bracing and 49-good. PFC Michael Lyman was attached to 91st Evac Hospital.
Alpha Company

At 0945hrs Alpha Company we have 9 APC and 7 Bulldozers at our location (BS792527). At 1100hrs Alpha Company reports that Brigade was just at our location and was appears happy with our progress. At 2000hrs Bravo Company 39th Engineers and Alpha (late report) Al grid BS792527 during the land clearing operation we experienced the following mine/booby trap incidents: 1 M-26 US grenade with trip wire, no casualties, 2 rounds 105 artillery with trip wire, no casualties. Also four rounds 105 artillery detonated in four separate incidents by four different dozers resulting in one in one slightly bend blade, 1 105mm round by one APC resulting in one track blown off, two damage road wheels and damage sprocket.
Bravo Company

At 1140hrs Bravo Company the 54 element is closing with the Vietnamese, negative results of sweep. At 1150hrs Bravo Company 64 element came across a booby trap at grid BS785535. It was a tripwire a type with an M-26 grenade attached. A wire was running across a trial with stakes on both sides, the grenade was attached to one of the stakes. The wire was connected to the grenade by a thin safety pin; we blew it in place. Bravo Company the 54 and 56 elements are some ARVN will be Night Defense Position at BS753423. At 1600hrs Bravo Company report on 9th Engineers progress Report: Bulldozers have completed 60 areas.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1321hrs Charlie Company and PRU have a Combat Assault to BS755455 and at 1655hrs report we have 6 female VCS at our PZ at BS758459.
Delta Company
October 16, 1969
Delta Company returned from Stand Down at 1814hrs Dust off 1 US PFC Leonard Perrine with chills and temp of 104 and evac to 91st Evac Hospital. SGT Wyndal G. Cowan was also evac to 91st Evac Hospital.
Echo Company
October 16, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0613hrs 4.2 Platoon reports no expenditures. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon is off to Chu Lai for their Stand Down.
