Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Ross for Operation WHEELER-WALLOWA and are OPCON to the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. 1-20 Infantry reports Alpha and Bravo Companies are OPCON to the 1-6 Infantry. Charlie Company established OP’s at BT0526. Delta Company has Security Mission for LZ Ross and conducts Platoon Search and Clear Operations to the northeast and west of LZ Ross. Alpha 4-21 Infantry swept northeast to vicinity BT0138. And Delta Company 3-1 Infantry secured LZ Ryder. At 2205hrs Delta Company 3-1 Infantry received 4 rounds 82mm Mortar round out side perimeter with negative casualties or damage. Delta Company 4-3 Infantry is being airlifted to Duc Pho at 1353hrs and returning OPCON to the 11th Light Infantry Brigade.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
May 16, 1968
196th Light Infantry Brigade has returned to take command of Operation WHEELER-WALLOWA again from their move north to support Marines. Alpha Company 1-20 Infantry and 1 platoon from Delta Company 1-6 Infantry pushed east from the perimeter of Delta Company (-) and Alpha Company 1-6 Infantry vicinity BT0622. Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry remained on the hill vicinity at BT0522. Bravo Company 1-6 Infantryman on a OP vicinity at BT0625 and conducted a sweep southeast 400 meters. Alpha Company 1-20 Infantry and Delta Company 1-6 Infantry started receiving 81-82mm mortar fire continued until 1105hrs 1 US WHA (E) and 2 US WHA (M) at BT071213. At 1224hrs Alpha Company received 6 incoming mortar rounds, resulting in 2 US WHA (M). At 1609hrs Alpha and Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry and Alpha 1-6 received 10 rounds of mortar fire with results Alpha Company 1-20 Infantry 2 WIA (E) and Bravo Company 1-20 2 WIA (M) and Alpha Company 1-6 has 3 WIA (E). 1-6 SGT ROBERT ALFRED WAGNER LISTED AS KHA (grid coordinates BT071213).
Bravo Company

Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry will remain on the hill vicinity at BT0522 for Security and in reserve. At 1609hrs Alpha and Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry and Alpha 1-6 received 10 rounds of mortar fire with results Alpha Company 1-20 Infantry 2 WIA (E) and Bravo Company 1-20 2 WIA (M) and Alpha Company 1-6 has 3 WIA (E)
Charlie Company

Charlie Company established OP vicinity BT0526. Charlie Company reports their location at 0700hrs BT044273, 1000hrs BT055270 and 1100hrs at BT057270. At 1613hrs Charlie Company was being to dig in and tripped a booby trap resulting in 1 US WHA (M) and 1 US (E) was Dust Off called and at 8th Support Clearing Station and died of wounds. SGT ALVIN ANTHONY MACK JR, IS LISTED AS KHA. PFC James C. O’Brien was evac and attached to 65th Evac Hospital.
Delta Company

Delta Company maintained 2 Platoons at LZ Ross for the Security for LZ Ross and used a Platoon with the Calvary Platoon to provide security for the Road Sweep and security of the road. Delta Company also has 1 of the platoons conduct Search and Clear Operation northeast and then west of LZ Ross. Alpha Company 4-21 Infantry will sweep northeast to vicinity 0138, Delta Company 3-1 Infantry will continue to secure Fire Support Base Ryder. Delta Company 4-3 Infantry is being airlifted to Duc Pho at 1353hrs to returning OPCON to 11th Brigade, they where OPCON to the 1-20 Infantry.
Echo Company

Echo Company is located at LZ Ross where Battalion Forward, is located and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and the Base Defense on LZ Ross. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Ross where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. At 1000hrs OP Dragon reports 1 WHA by sniper fire as 1-20 Infantry Recon Platoon manned OP Tiger, Cobra and Dragon. SP4 Percy B. Hendry was attached to NSA Hospital Da Nang.
